国王神社（こくおうじんじゃ）は、茨城県坂東市にある神社。平将門を、その終焉の地に祀る神社である。正式には國王神社と表記する。国王大明神や将門大明神の古称がある。

個人的には、諸説ありますが、将門が京都での腐敗した政治を目の当たりにして、志を持って戦ったものと信じています。坂東市では今でも将門公を英雄として崇められています。

Kokuo Shrine is a shrine located in Bando City, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is a shrine that enshrines Taira no Masakado at the place where he died. It is officially written as Kokuo Shrine. It has ancient names such as Kokuo Daimyojin and Masakado Daimyojin.
There are various theories, but I personally believe that Masakado witnessed the corrupt politics in Kyoto and fought with determination. Even today, he is worshiped as a hero in Bando City.
社伝（「国王神社縁起」及び「元亨釈書」）によると、平将門の戦死の際、難を逃れ奥州の恵日寺付近に庵を結び出家し隠棲していた将門の三女如蔵尼が、将門の33回忌にあたる天禄3年（972年）2月にこの地に戻り、付近の山林にて霊木を得て、将門の像を刻み、祠を建て安置し祀ったのがはじまりとされる。神像は制作年代不詳だが、文化財解説は室町時代の作としている。
According to the shrine's legend ("Kokuo Shrine Origin" and "Genko Shakusho"), when Taira no Masakado was killed in battle, his third daughter, Nyozo-ni, who had escaped and taken refuge in a hermitage near Eiji Temple in Oshu, became a nun and lived in seclusion. She returned to this place in February of the 3rd year of Tenroku (972), on the 33rd anniversary of Masakado's death, obtained a sacred tree from a nearby forest, carved an image of Masakado, and built a shrine to enshrine him. The date of the creation of the statue is unknown, but the cultural property commentary states that it was made in the Muromachi period.

将門の生きた時代は、平氏と藤原氏が実権を握り自分たちの至福を肥やす事だけを行っていたようです。民は相当苦しんでいたようです。将門は民に寄り添った都を作ろうとしたと言われています。
