  • I pinged a filter and I liked it. The heart of this patch is a 32-channel mc.comb~ filter with independently controllable delay times for each channel. This is 'pinged' by a click~ object trigged by random rhythms. With some filtering and LFOs, this is a surprisingly versatile machine which can create a wide range of sounds as demonstrated by the presets here.

      Thank you! I've only been doing this since January so still feel a bit like a beginner myself :D

      @@ersatz_ben Hi there, how did you learn max? Do you recommend any tutorials or books? I am really interested in mc stuff and some modulation effects!

    Nice work. Is there a reason for including [mc.dup~] ? And where did you get the idea for parallel + serial allpass? i've only seen them in parallel until now.

    • @ersatz_ben
      @ersatz_ben  Před rokem +2

      The mc.dup~ isn't needed - it's a hangover from an old patch and I forgot to remove it! You can just add "@chans 32" to the mc.comb~ object instead. Re the parallel+series allpasses, I was unsatisfied with how much smearing I was getting with just parallel, so thought I'd run one filtered signal into another as well. It creates a thicker sound.

    Amazing patch! I've managed to recreate it to better understand. How would you go about pitch or scale quantization? Say for example if I wanted it to play in F harmonic minor for example.

      Thanks! Many ways to do this. Quantising pitches to the 12EDO scale is easy though - just change the big multislider to integer mode

      Hi - no, what~ is an object introduced in Max 8.3

    So that pluck/stab kind of sound that starts at 0:08 seconds is part of the patch itself? I'm very unfamiliar with Max but I love that sound.

    • @ersatz_ben
      @ersatz_ben  Před rokem +1

      Yep - all sounds are synthesised by the patch.

    Hi! Great patch! My Version of Max does not recognise a what~ object, is it an external object or do I need to upgrade my MaxVersion? Thanks a lot===))))

      You need Max 8.3 for what~
      It’s a worthwhile upgrade! There are lots of amazing new objects

    this is a great patch, what resources did you use to learn?

      Thanks! The Max help files have lots of example code in them - good for exploring how objects work. Dude837 on CZcams has 'delicious max tutorials' which are super helpful. Andrew Robinson has good introductory videos too. Honestly though I have just practiced a lot by making patches every day!
