Tagi ai le fatu. Sui le faiga a tumau le faavae. Ways of doing may change but the foundations remain the same. We hope this song brings joy to you like it has for us. We had plans for 2020 that haven’t been able to eventuate the way we had anticipated, so we adjust. A project of Matavai this year was to film an amazing video clip for an old Tiamaa song our students recorded last year, produced by Andrew Faleatua. Instead, we have settled with videoing ourselves, our students included, and piecing our dance together as a symbol of hope and a memory of how humanity adjusted and perhaps discerned that simplicity is best.
Alive in a time where we find ourselves being more resourceful and appreciating what we have: that is what this video means. Our method has changed but our foundation will always remain the same. The bond of community, and the hopefulness to see each other and dance alongside one another again. Keep dancing, stay in contact, pay attention, simple is fine, and to be grateful for the life we have and for each other. The day we meet face to face again will be a joyous day!
