Great demo, there is going to be an up tick on saddle hunting thanks to you, stay save
Thank you Allie...One of the best on the subject..I am really wanting to try this next year.
Please do! You'll love it!
One of the things I did was replace the platform strap with a versa link. It took some practice but the strap is much lighter and silent.
The versa link is also so strong that I was able to use it to drag my last year out of the woods with.
I've really enjoyed watching you and your husbands videos and learning more about deer hunting each video. If I may request one thing would be to drop links on the equipment and or gear/ clothing you guys wear and where to buy them at. I have basically copied your setup for the most part because you do an exceptional job on your equipment reviews. You guys are the reason I'm switching to saddle hunting for next season. Thanks and keep making amazing content!
Thanks for the feedback! Will do.
Best saddle set up video ive seen
Glad you liked it!
Just fold up your waistband and use a small zip tie to connect it to the wasteband that is flush with your body and out of the way. That's how I control my extra strapping and it help to not visually lose yourself in all the straps!
Rubber bands are a very versatile option for stowing tail ends also
You can use bicycle inner tube to totally quiet your platform clamp. Slide it over clamp. You will have to make a slit in it so you can push down to loosen.
Awesome! Thanks a ton! Gonna give saddle hunting a go this summer for next season
You're going to love it!
That is a really smooth operation. I am definitely going to be getting those sticks. The suspenders for that saddle is in my opinion brilliant. I have be thinking about using a regular set to hold mine up but i just don't put it on until I'm at the tree.
They sticks are absolutely amazing!
Great job explaining how a saddle works ! i definitely want to try it !!
Go for it!
I really enjoyed your video on saddle hunting.Thank you for sharing with us and good luck to you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Well done video, and thanks for sharing your setup. The lock down has been great, especially for one sticking. I keep coming back to Tethrd gear after trying other companies. It just works
For sure!!
An excited commentary, well done, very easy to follow.
👍
Great Job!
Thanks for putting this video out I’ve been very interested in trying saddle hunting.
Happy to help!
The Ultimate Stick Attachment makes no noise and works great on platforms. Great video 👍
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing your equipment and your adventures with your husband and adventures and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Same to you Earl!
Thank you my friends
One thing I will say. I always tuck my bridge away while climbing because I've always had issues with it catching on the stick or the versa button while climbing AND descending and it will pull the stick off the tree lol. Iono if it's just my sticks or the way I climb but no kidding if I forget to do it it happens every Damm time haha
Very cool and well explained
Glad you liked it!
So very informative. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Very informative video, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
This was my first year with saddle (phantom + predetor xl + skeleton stick). This is so nice to be mobile like that! I admit that this model looks really good! Carbon platform will be less noisy in the future. Thanks for the demo and nice explanation!👍
How did you like the phantom and predator setup? I am looking to get into saddle hunting next year.
@@BrandonJones-cq7yu it's expensive but it's so practical, secure and it allows you to be mobile quickly to have the wind on the right side. You can use Stealth strip to muffle the sound of each part! I truly appreciate it !
It's a great option!!
Wow! Your video arrives just in time.I wanted to write to you for more information on your saddle equipment.
Awesome! Have fun out there!
Well done. Ty
If you tie a bungie cord to the end loop of the platform strap, it will stay tight against the platform. I wrap it so the buckle stays in the front of the platform then extend the bungie to connect to the back right side around the corner. Hope that was clear enough to help
Wow that was weird I just sent a question to you regarding this.😂 Now I know and this is a great set up! Thanks Allie 😊🤙🏽
Happy to help!
Allie, i took an old bike tube and cut it, made a slit in it for the strap to go through. And it has worked pretty well for my metal on my strap.
Interesting!
A piece of bicycle tire innertube over the cam buckle will make it quiet.
I started using a back band this year and it makes a big difference in comfort for longer sits having that upper back support.
Thanks for the feedback!
Daisy chain on that platform works great!
Trophyline sells gear covers or silencers for around $1.5 and they work perfectly for cam strap buckles
Hello Allie I’m new to hunting both in general and from a saddle. Got my first Doe with a bow 2 weeks ago. A fix for your clanking cam buckle could be at Hang Free with their full Berry H.F.A.S. It lightweight and uses a Prusek knot, so no noise. Hope this helps.
That's awesome. Congrats!! Thanks for the feedback also
So I just got all of my saddle set up orders in. Tethrd predator platform, tethrd one sticks, Cruzr XC, Kong ducks, 8 mm ropes, Cruzr back strap. Will be my first time trying the saddle set up. Just had rotator surgery & torn bicep repair 12/5 so it’s going to be a few days before I can practice climbing & setting up. While I’m down for repairs I got some silencing tape on the sticks, bed liner paint on the platform to dampen the noise a little. Still need a 2 step aider, not sure which brand yet. This is going to be a challenge for me at 60 yrs old but being more mobile, quieter, lighter weight has motivated me to give it a try.
Nice!!!! You're going to love it.
Get better soon 💪
10:10 for the buckle, harborfreight has liquid E tape/plasti dip...or flex seal
Check out the Yak Grips to silence the buckle on the platform. It's like a neoprene sleeve. You just cut it to cover the buckle. You can depress the lever by pushing through the neoprene. When I first started saddle hunting like 5 yrs ago that's what I used for my sticks. I use rope mod now but they worked really good for my old buckles
I'll check it out!
Take a look at replacing that cam buckle with the hang free hfas rope or the USA platform rope from EWO. It gets rid of all the metal and imo is safer, amsteel. Other option is to cut a bit of bike tire and put it over the buckle. I am texting this from a tree in my Lockdown saddle right now, as a one sticker this thing is perfect
Good luck out there!!
Great explanation.Wish I was younger. The weight reduction would be great.I would try it due to lugging in stands to do hang and hunts, but better off not at this point.Think it would be hard to get use to some of the awkward shooting positions.
Great video. I replaced the buckle with the USA pro series from the Aimsteel guy. No metal and super fast and easy.
Good to know! Thanks for watching.
Vital Ground Outdoors makes custom Aimsteel ropes for all different types of mobile hunting gear. I bought one for my predator platform. Works great!
Great video of your setup but I have a tip for you... When attaching your platform strap, make sure that you always run your cam strap buckle away from you around the tree so that it ends with the buckle right in front of your chest/face. This way you are not reaching around the tree in order to cinch up the buckle. An added benefit is that you can pull it so much tighter, when it is directly in front of you, than when it is on the other side of the tree. Keep the videos coming.
For sure. Thanks for watching Jeremy!
I’ve been looking at the dusk til dawn set by trohyline, it’s cool to see other options and their functionality thanks for the info!
If every year it gets a little better, then every year is the best it’s ever been to that point.
You are a Genius, Bob
Nice set up. I cut all long straps on my saddle and burned the edges to prevent fraying. I put my sticks in my pack and keep my platform on the outside. I need to get knee pads...like NEED! I have not had a need for an aider using 3 sticks. I have longer legs so I am able to increase my stride in between sticks. I use the rubber wire to hold my platform to my pack. I simply attach my platform to the pack when going down.
The knee pads are a must!
I attached a loop of Bungee to the end of the cam strap loop. Then you can stretch that strap and lock it into the platform. No more clanking
I've been thinking about something like that!
@@OutdoorsAllie I struggled with the same issue. I tried amsteel daisy chains and versa straps but I like the way the cam buckle locks in the platform. I tried my loop around the versa button loop so I can adjust the buckle to get the bungee at the right spot and it holds it pretty tight.
Good luck. Love the channel btw
I recently got a ring of steps and running that with a saddle platform, I highly recommended looking into a ring of steps. best of both worlds and a secondary hero clip for bow hanging when one has to move around the tree for a animal that came from the other way, with the ring of steps there is no such thing as a weak side shot and pretty remarkable learning that some saddle experts would never even use a saddle platform but ring of steps only.
I've been considering it in certain situations.
@@OutdoorsAllieI got the crantford scaffold and it comes with 4 steps but planning to use like only 3, I also use 8 mm oplux and a f4 device to rappel out and a lot easier in the dark and cold to get back to the ground
One suggestion. Swap out that stock platform strap for an Amsteel Guy USA Ultimate Attachment Pro. Super fast, easy, secure and dead quiet.
I'll check it out!
Your hair is on point.
LOL thanks
They should add some webbing management straps to the saddle like a lot of packs have
Try piece of rubber bicycle tube cut to length and put over the cam buckle on your platform strap. It will help silence it. Also I’d recommend looking into toe hooking your platform and camming it over to set it better.
Replace the buckle strap with a rope, there are rope mod videos out there or use an amsteel daisy chain. Both silent options
👍
Great Video, try covering your attachment strap buckle with Yak Grips or switch to a buckless attachment such as the USA Pro from the Amsteele Guy 😁
Thanks for the tip!
To prevent the platform strap from clanking, hook the loop over the corner of the platform and tighten it. I keep mine wrapped tighlty around itself with nothing added.
I have s carabiners every couple inches all around my saddle and paracord loops on my sticks, platform, etc. I attach them to saddle individually - I prefer the even weight distribution.
I sewed a nylon strap daisy chain to wrap around tree and hang backpack, thermos, quiver, etc from (more S carabiners....
Lastly I take a couple screw in hangers for my bow. use different ones in different scenarios (tree leaning away, toward, lots of branches, no branches, recurve or compound?)
I usually go sunup to sundown so I'll have 2 thermos's, and a water bottle on me as well. One Soup, one Coffee, and one 2L water bottle. (Now this is the weird part, sorry ladies - I also have an old water bladder from a platypus waterback thing... and that is my tree urinal - don't get down, and seals it shut....)
I was gonna try a saddle but couldn't get the horse to stand still long enough.
Love the vids, what unit do you hunt?
I’ve used the Tethrd platform. Its nice. But I switched to the Seeker by Cruzr, night and day difference. You should try one if you haven’t. Have you considered one sticking and rappelling down? Good job on the videos!
I haven't tried one sticking yet but I might one day.
Try cutting a bike tire innertube to slide over your metal cinch strap buckle like a sleeve. You are still able to operate the buckle but it won't clank.
Thanks for the idea!
Awesome video I just ordered the phantom saddle kit from tethrd after watching your video. One question…. I ordered the hsy strap but what do you use to hang your bow and packs on?
Sweet! I use a S Biner Clip for my pack and a Hero Clip for my bow
Thank you so much!
Great video, two years of saddle hunting im starting to figure some things out. Im curious on your thoughts on tethrd's new carbon platform? Im of the opinion that "ounces equal pounds"
I like it a lot! Only thing I would add is making it available in "regular" size as well. I just don't need an XL
Ranger band the extra strap length
I like the idea of saddle hunting but being a bigger guy I'd need stronger items, and also being a little shaky unsure of footing I'd probably not start saddle hunting. I have ladder stands, and climbing stands. I might someday try to saddle hunt but stand on a bottom part of a climbing stand.
They are very strong!! Check out the weight ratings on their products!
What was that little grappling hook doohickey at the end? That would be helpful.
Its called a tethrd scorpion hook. Definitely helpful!
It would be really cool too see the gear list, with places to purchase, said items..
Noted!
What treble hook is that? Is it loud unhooking it once the platform lands on the ground?
It's a tethrd scorpion hook. Nope, I love it!
👍🏻
👍
Thanks what's the name of your saddle or do you have the link so I can buy one.
It's made by Tethrd!
Only compliant about my one sticks is how loud they are. I've wrapped them but they still clank on everything they touch.
Ya, if you'e not careful they can make some noise. The reduction in weight is unbelievable though!
It's a military harness set up
I always watch your full promo for Midway USA.....don't skip so they give you a gold star⭐😁wishing you and Nick a very Merry Christmas!🌲✝🙏.....I also watch all of Jared Mills Midway shoots 😊
Thank you very much Jim!! Much appreciated.
I’m looking to get into saddle hunting here in south central Ga. How do I know what size saddle will work best for me. I.e. regular or xl. I’m 6’2 190 lbs. I’m a 33 waist size. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
Ya, I'd go regular size!
Thanks That’s what I was thinking
Can you add links to the products you use in your setup within the video notes? Thanks.
Added!
I’m switching from a climber to a saddle for next season. I’m down to two setups. The same as you both have or the Buzzard Roost with the Latitude Carbon Sticks. Price is a big issue for me. Is there somewhere a guy can get discount codes for the Tetherd set up. I really want to go that direction. Thanks for all your content!! Happy Holidays!!
I don't have any discount code at the moment, but if I get my hands on one I'll post it ASAP!
It's a great setup!
@@OutdoorsAllie thank you. I’ll be 60 in January so lighter is important. 👍🏼
Is the linesmen rope included with the set up?
Not always. If you buy a kit, then yes!
Do you have a link to the clip you use to hold your sticks?
You can find it form Genesis 3d Printing
@@OutdoorsAllie I looked there, but found something that looked liked it, sold out. I was just wondering if I was looking at the right part.
Must be nice to have trees to hunt from.
I got my complete set up last winter and didn’t get a chance to use yet, bummer
Get out there!!
@@OutdoorsAllie next hunting season
What's the average height you climb with 4 sticks and the platform?
I'd guess around 16-17 feet.
Hello. I have watched tons of saddle videos. I think I’ve got the gist of it. I’m in southeast PA. I’m searching for someone or some place that gives lessons on saddle climbing and different gear. Any body know such a person or institution? Thanks all
Tethrd used to to a Teach N' Train tour. I'd look into that!
How long does it you to fully setup your saddle and actually start hunting?
I'd guess around 10 minutes. Maybe a little less. I like to take my time and be quiet.
@@OutdoorsAllie cool, I would have guessed 30 minutes. Think I might try saddle hunting in the future. Great video by the way.
Will the muddy lift a rifle with no problem?
For sure.
One sticking is the only way, when you know you know.
How would you repel down? Instead of climbing down.
You could. I prefer climbing down
With a belay device and a rappel rope. You could go the mechanical route or manual route. Mechanical top 2 would be a madrock safeguard or a petzel gri gri plus. Manual you could use a figure 8 or friction hitches with a carabiner
@@bigmike19 cool, thank you for the information
What gear hook is that?
Tethrd Scorpion!
"Best" because she dropped a monster doe with it! 😂
👍
Thank you for a good video hopefully a lot of people can benefit from your setup. With the excess strap on your waist & legs have you tried zip ties, tape or even paracord tying them up closer to the end. That way they're out of your way and you don't have to cut them.
For sure. Thanks for watching!
@@OutdoorsAllie you're welcome
A very good video but honestly I can never see myself using one of these. So much bother.
I hope you get to try it one day!
I'm to old now 😔
I hope you had a great season regardless!
About how high are you hunting
on average i'd guess 16 feet
@@OutdoorsAllie thank you ...just kinda wondering I'm new to saddle hunting still trying to decide if it's for me
I’ve tried saddle hunting for a few years
But EV been busted from behind since I don’t have a tree hiding my outline behind me
I’ve also gotten twisted up 2x in 2 years on my week side
Missed both times
Any tips????
I posted a video a few weeks about taking the weak side shot! Check it out!
Thanks
Why the hell do people still use cam buckle straps? USA rope mods are by far superior
I'll check it out!
@@OutdoorsAllie the amsteel guy. I make my own, if you got a po box I'll send one to you
Is it me, or does this seem very complicated?
Just takes a little getting used to.
Basically copied your whole setup. Been buying bits and pieces for months and finally have everything. I bought the ultra lockdown saddle (same as yours but they had to change the name). So damn disappointed, the sewing is complete garbage! The stitching is coming out in multiple places and I’ve never even used it yet, and I won’t be using it. The sticks and platform look alright. I’ll be searching for a different brand as far as the saddle goes. Brand new ultra lockdown in the trash can.
That seems unusual. Did you give their customer service a call about it?
