He had plenty of room for a backswing but took the backswing relief and used it to make it easier to get around the obstacle. From the spot his ball was originally at his backswing would not have been impeded at all. It was just more difficult to maneuver around the duck. So he very coyly acted as though he needed the relief and no one said a thing. I'm surprised no one fucked with him about it and I hope someone at barstool sees this comment (in case he wins) cuz he will have turned in an incorrect scorecard which is an automatic disqualification according to PGA tour rules. Official mini-golf rules may be different but at the very least it should be a one or two stroke penalty.
Something else interesting to note is that the PGA tour allows and encourages anyone watching on TV to report an infraction if they catch it and it's missed by the judges on the course. This has caused people to lose strokes and be disqualified in the past. If they don't take a stroke for the rule infraction and they sign their scorecard then they're turning in an incorrect scorecard and as I referred to earlier is grounds for disqualification. Smitty definitely didn't need to move that ball. He acted like he needed to so he could get a better angle around the duck. You can even see the look on his face when hes going to straddle the duck cuz he thinks he got caught cheating so he changed the subject really quick by asking about using a left handed club. It worked and distracted everyone from the fact that he had just moved the ball to his advantage. That duck was not impeding his ability to strike the ball forward straight in to the ducks chest. Ot was inpeding his ability to get around the duck though. Very sneaky (and illegal? I think so.) move and anyone in this tournament should be playing under protest. This is my attempt at reporting the rule infraction.
I don't dislike ya Smitty. I just don't like when someone doesn't play like a gentleman in a gentleman's game. It's not a good look and I think you know you got away with something there. This needs to be addressed by tournament officials and Smitty!!

Surely they will have this set up differently next season. Tone down the production and speed up the release. Some people can't keep secrets. Jersey Jerry released the winner a few weeks back and Portnoy eluded to the fact that if Kirk is a "world ranked mini golfer then we have one of the best mini golf companies in the world". That clearly means Kirk did not win and maybe a few people finished in front of him. That kind of takes the polish off for the Minifans.
