California High Speed Rail should have been smaller.

  • Love rail of all kinds and I think the high speed rail project in California is great. I do think that it should have been from San Diego to LA instead of LA to San Francisco. Start small is best and I see how other projects locally have struggled due to taking on such large scale projects instead of starting smaller.

The project was voted for in 2008 with a completion date of 2024. Now they say 2025, if they let a private company do the work it would've been done by now or close. Bridge structures are way overbuilt, a railway company would not build bridges so grand just to get across something.

They are building a Brightline from L.A. to Las Vegas. Privately funded. Florida has a Brightline too.

@@HershNoeie PNW could use one. Vancouver to Seattle to Portland. With some stops to Everett and Tacoma.

I get you, but San Clemente and Oceanside are tiny. Even the long-term plans for Cal HSR don't include a direct link from Los Angeles to San Diego, it's going to be LA to Riverside to San Diego with a spur LA to Anaheim. The point of HSR generally is to compete with short-haul airplane routes, nobody's flying from LA to SD. I think what you're really talking about is enhanced regional rail, which is actually great. Upgrade Metrolink to something in between a subway and a high speed rail line. Look at the Elizabeth Line in London or the RER in Paris.

I watched the whole video and I see your points. I'd like to point out 2 things: 1. Poor people. There are a lot of poor people and "open" land between LA and San Fran. Now with HSR, it opens "unused" real estate markets. In theory. So pop goes the housing costs with "poor people" fighting back. 2. There is very little "underused" space in-between the suburban sprawl that is Laorangiverside through SanDimecula that has been developed and is developing like crazy and has tons of freeways everywhere with fancy new toll roads.

Ideally the original connection is made though built piecemeal and functional before each expansion, then rinse repeat to have mass rail across state, increasing socioeconomic opportunity with expansion~

They screwed up royal a couple of ways, 1 no "bullet train" should stop anywhere that's not a major city, SF LA SD, simple, 2.. Not aquriring the entire bill 1st then all the land acquisition, as time goes on everything gets more expensive n complex, law suits are allowed to delay progress, the "hope" on relying on the FEDS was insanely stupid, thee most diffuceground greaking will be LAC, SF or SD have zero comparison to complex geo tunneling, as of this date it's now $140B MORE needed to complete this, the idea for mass transit I'm all for, it's the political road blocks and cartel owned officials that prevent progress, the bottom line is cars will neverrrrrrr be replaced bc no one will surrender their independence, not building more lanes on highways shoukd create class actions like what hpnd on the 15/40 ONLY 2 LANES IN BOTH DIRECTIONS, same for the 5!!! All this open state land, the ppl of CA are naturally impatient, look what state project delays have done to our traffic in the last 30ys, train riders don't want to see or rude BUSES we want trains, the all our frws should have trains in the center, every year our state gets more populated that's neverrrrrrr going away, what we need are double decker frws, now I no most are scared of earthquakes but we have tech that better designs over passes, these metro lines are completely embarrassing with the preventable delays, now the purple line going tru 2027!?!?!?!?!? I garente metro west won't have the vegas train done by 28 bc it's not practical, it's not a 247 manned opp, the labor is not available, state land or not I garenteeeeeee it won't get done
