Aimee Mann at 60, still bringing it. Thanks for being an essential part of the soundtrack of my life
aging like a fine wine 👌
60??? Nah no way.
She has several songs on my life's sound track too.
Right? Not sure I'd be the same person....❤
yes..
God bless Aimee Mann for staying true to her own vision and going to those dark places that only an artist like her can distill into a tragically beautiful vignette like this.
She's fearless, absolutely. There are no words to express how deep her music touches me.
This man comments!
Happy New Year 2023.2/1
This song has helped keep me alive these last six months of torment.
@@GameOfDepth don't give up
I first heard Aimee's work in the film, Magnolia, and based on the strength of those songs, my wife Ann and I picked up the albums that were available then (late 90s). I just discovered this song yesterday -- some 15-and-a-half years after Ann's suicide. I was totally choked up by lyrics and music. And the concept that "suicide is murder" was one that I came to following Ann's death. I think, for the survivors of those who commit suicide, there is a complex and contradictory set of feelings, because we feel both terrible sadness for the victim, and terrible anger for the murderer -- and they are the same person. Thank you, Aimee Mann for this haunting, poignant song.
So well said!!!!
Her music has gotten me through so many different struggles in my life. Addiction, depression, mental illness.. Aimee has a song for you.
i was a metal/grunge guy in the 90's till i heard aimee mann then i branched out. thank you aimee for getting me through my struggles with mental illness.
The world is a better place for having Aimee's music in it. Plus a great video - loved the dodo on the stairwell!
I agree wholeheartedly. I unfortunately didn't discover her until 2018, but her music has enriched my life in these 3 short years.
@@sheniahasiamah9802 Hope you've put your hands on "Mental Illness" from 2017. I can't think of any artist who has such a strong musical output, yet delivered her finest works this late in her career. Can't wait for the new album as well - I have a feeling it'll be outstanding, judging from this first single...
@@Cicilo1983 Yes, I most definitely have listened to Mental Illnes several times! Amazing album. I'm very much looking forward to this next project, too!
In the last few years Aimee Mann has been writing some of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Imagine being haunted by a new song before it’s even finished. That’s the kind of talent Aimee Mann has. One our best and smartest songwriters. Thanks for all you’ve given us, and know you made us feel less alone and more understood by your music.
Was it you?
I discovered Aimee when I was 13 through the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I’ve been a fan ever since. I’m now 30 and I can honestly say that all of her albums have been like therapy to me and I’m thankful I discovered her when I did. I know she’s often labelled as ‘depressing’ but I find her music oddly uplifting? She just creates such an outer body experience through her lyrics and music. Can’t wait for the full album. 💙
I ran out and bought Lost in Space the day after she appeared on Buffy, and it's still one of my favourite albums. Absolutely magical.
Me too. I downloaded the Lost In Space album as soon as i saw that episode and I’ve been hooked since.
I discovered her when I was 13 too. TBH my mom had just left us and I was trying to keep her with me through her taste in music. Aimee's songwriting taught me that pain is normal and you can still create beautiful things through it. She turns disasters into comforting sounds and little stories. I'm only 21 now, but Lost in Space, Bachelor No 2. and even "Voices Carry" held my hand through years of abuse and trauma.
I discovered Aimee when I was 18. Now I'm 33 and I can totally relate with your word bro!!!!
Same story here, I found her in buffy and I've listened to everything she's done for over half my life now. Got to see her in 2017/18 too which was very lucky since she doesn't like travelling abroad often
I was first introduced to Aimee's music in 2004 in a seemingly random way. Walking through my locally owned record store one night, I was drawn to the artwork on the CD cover of "Lost In Space" --and made an impulse buy. I don't usually do impulse buys and had never heard of Aimee. I loved every song and every drawing in the little booklet. The kick to this story: when I made this purchase I was fresh out of 30-day inpatient treatment for substance abuse. Little did I know how close a connection to much of Aimee's writing I would have over the years.
I love this.
I'm sure you're already a fan of "The Forgotten Arm," but if you aren't I would highly recommend it.
I don't know how Aimee Mann does it but her music keeps getting better. This is music for brain, heart and soul. Thank you so much.
She’s just too good. What a brave and beautiful song. Breathtaking.
Aimee does it again. This track really tears me up. Love her music so much. There is no one better at what she does.
Aimee is Beatle level genius. ♥️
😅😅😅 that's ridiculous
@@Nevernow721 She's a brilliant songwriter so
A compassionate yet forceful plea to nip distorted thinking in the bud. That's what I picked up on first listen. Thank you, Aimee, it's not a lead single for the faint-hearted.
"You've got to have the stomach for a heartless killing spree."
Beautiful work my friend
Was it you?
There's a reason she's famous for her lyrics. I notice more each time I watch and listen to this. There's a shot of him staring down from the upstairs window to the brick walkway below, which I was reminded of later with the line "...falling where no one can catch". FYI you can buy this song now on Amazon for $.99 (whole album isn't available yet). And I just have to say Aimee looks gorgeous. She has timeless beauty. She'll be beautiful when she's in her 90s. It is in her eyes and in her smile and that will never age.
I remember this song! She played it at the concert at Music Hall of Williamsburg two summers ago. She said she'd written it for a potential "Girl. Interrupted' musical. Loved it then, love it now.
I was there too, and I've been eagerly awaiting the musical!
I was just asking what the impetus was for this song. Can you please expand on what you said. A musical about such an important topic? From what you know it wasn't spawned by her loss of someone dear?
@quicksite Before introducing the song in the Brooklyn concert she said it was for a musical version of Girl, Interrupted but she mentions knowing people as well who've died as well. @@2lassies Thanks very much!
Reminds me of someone very close to me that I lost.
I miss you David ...
Aimee has had a powerful impact on my life, especially the past several years. Thanks for creating such cathartic, healing music.
What a Beautiful song..Can't wait for the new CD. WOW Aimee looks the same. Doesn't seem to age. One of Music's most under rated Writers.
She is not the least bit underrated, lol. It seems to never fail in CZcams comments. A brilliant artist people have known about and appreciated for decades. But there that word underrated! :) Maybe a better word is "ignored by" mainstream culture who are generally fixated on indistinguishable template songs?
This is wonderful, vintage Aimee - just what the world (and I) need right now 🙂
The 1st line is so true!
...regardless of any oppion about blame, reason or what suicide means--it is very common that the strongest memory of that person is either how people imagine they looked or what they actually saw.
I think thats why we can have a strong need to know how they "did it" because we feel the need to have a mental image of that persons last moments(just like any other form of sudden death)
Wow, Aimee, you will never read this but, this song filled me with emotion about my mother's suicide... thank you for this song....
So happy to wake up and have this absolute gem in my notifications!
Thank you Aimee. Your music has helped me through a lot. Keep sharing your gifts with the world. I look forward to your new album. You're a hero.
In perpetual awe of you, Aimee. Love you so much.
I am so hooked on Aimee Mann. No matter how happy or sad. I absolutely love her music.
Just beautiful. beautiful melody, lyrics, everything. Thank you for sharing this.
Still has this beautiful voice after all these years!! And she dresses like me!
How random - I was just listening to Welcome Home yesterday. I can remember every lyric to that album but can't remember where I put my keys these days. Go figure. At any rate - Aimee is awesome - and timeless. This song hits hard, lost my best friend to suicide 9 years ago, life will never be the same.
Yeah. Welcome Home is really amazing like pretty much everything she creates. Sorry about your friend. 😔
OH NO! Sending you love by way of The Big Easy! ^..^
Aimee, you sound incredible. As an 80's kid, I was (and still am) a huge fan of your music. "Voices Carry" has always been one of my all time favs and my crush will live on forever :)
If I can stop myself from crying and type. That's so good. Deep therapy with strings. I love you Amy.
Oh my, Aimee Mann coming in clutch just when I need her again. Brightened what has been a difficult few weeks with this wonderful surprise release.
I absolutely love Aimee Mann- everything she creates is brilliant✨
How profound, cathartic, empathetic and essential this woman’s work is. How much sweeter life is, to have it soundtracked so exquisitely #Queen
#queensofthesummerhotel
Couldn't have said it better.
Can't wait for the new album and tour!
I would love to go also but not if they’re asking us to wear face diapers
No one makes tragedy sound so beautiful. Hard topic but such a beautiful melody.
I lost my nephew to suicide and no, you never ever stop feeling like you could have done something, anything. What a beautiful song 🥰
Picture yourself
There in the snow turning blue
Get used to that being you
Picture yourself
Blood from a cut on your wrist
Checking for veins that you missed
'Cause suicide is murder
You've got to have motive, means, and opportunity
Suicide is murder
Premeditated, rehearsed tragedy
Motive is key
Count off the friends who would care
If there are none, then you're there
Motive's a must
Shame and self-loathing a plus
Tickets for under the bus
Suicide is murder
You've got to have motive, means, and opportunity
Suicide is murder
Premeditated, rehearsed tragedy
But beware 'cause anyone who knew you
Will be cursed and part of them will also die
There's no end to the asking of the question “why?”
So, picture yourself
What sums up all of your ills?
Is it drowning?
Or bullets, or pills?
Try to detach
If throwing the pills down the hatch
Or falling where no one can catch
If suicide is murder
You've got to have the stomach for a heartless killing spree
Suicide is murder
Premeditated, rehearsed tragedy
lost my sons

I’m very upset about this song. May I ask how you feel about it?

@@alekwlodarz I lost my husband and son lost his father. I'm so sorry for your loss. I really love aimee Mann, but this one left me too sad. I prefer arms of an angel by Sarah Mclaughlin as my husband's somg.
@@alekwlodarz Sorry for your loss, man. Hope you have people around you to take care of you.
i've been lucky to witness Aimee Mann twice or so live in concert. she is a radiant angel. her lyrics though dark and somewhat brooding comforts me. this song would compliment the Magnolia soundtrack so well.
been a fan since seeing Aimee when she was , oh, 25years old
I have been playing Queens of the Summer Hotel non-stop. It's pretty cool to hear a concept album in 2022! Tough subject matter but so beautifully executed. Thanks for releasing this gem Aimee!
This song! Aimee never ceases to stop blowing me away.
so stoked for this new album!!
Please i love you aimee your voice is so beautiful 😭😭
No One Is Watching You Now saved me when my suicide first touched my soul in '86.
This song is why.
Thank you, twice, Aimee.
Aimee never fails. Always so beautifully crafted, produced and performed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wonderful Aimee always with beautiful songs❤️⭐❤️
This album is just amazing. Perfection.
Love this new song and James Urbaniak starring in the video is perfect!!!!!
I think "Queens of the Summer Hotel" is one of Aimee Mann's best albums. And this song is one reason why.
And now I know what I've been missing: New Aimee Mann's music
We have grown old together.
And in all these years,
you have been a light in all the fears.
You don't know me, and I don't know you.
You just gave, and I could only take.
Thank you for all the beauty,
and good luck on your ways.
Maybe you will make it to Germany some day.
My favorite Aimee record, Queens of the Summer Hotel. Brillant stuff. Retro magic.
Aimee Mann is absolutely phenomenal!
I've been a big fan of hers for over 20 years now ❤️
Your music continues to make me speechless and have goosbumps, this whole album is gold
Really needed to hear this right now.. to put everything into perspective. Been battling some intense demons. I can’t leave my family with a “murder”
Please know that all things change. Sadness today can change to happiness tomorrow. My son lost his father and I my husband to suicide. I truly believe that he knows the wreckage he caused and would take it back in a heartbeat if he could. He was so loved and is so missed. Keep swimming, my friend. All of life's moments are not to missed. The point is making it to the finish line.
@Robotman, please don’t give up. I’ve been in those shoes and walked in those same abysmally dark paths. Don’t give up. Breathe. Much love!!
I think when we have thoughts that everything would be better if we jetted that that's just the part of our mind that's been systematically trained by society to torture us/telling us that our feelings and needs don't matter. I think we are literally eternal beings exploring ourselves for all of eternity. That takes the pressure off for me. Then there is no immediacy to wanting anything to end, because I think that's just not true. We can live each eternal moment fully. Much love ~
Un abrazo para vos
I’m so sorry for your loss, but also thank you for this beautiful comment. I’ve been in a dark place for months and these words are a life raft. I’ll try to hold onto it.
Another masterpiece album coming!
I can't stop crying right now...
She sure knows how to write about raw emotion and she is so Awesome!
God I love her. I somehow manage to relate to pretty much every one of her songs ever since I first saw on MTV back in 1985. ♥
A DREAM COME TRUE...BRAND NEW AIMEE MANN MUSIC...FULL ALBUM...WHAT A DAY!!!!!!..IT IS NOW GOLDEN!!!
I'm happy to see Aimee in this mv :)

Oh the heart ache and the song is right. Well done. Beautiful video. Thank you for singing, the song and the tune
"razors pain you, rivers are damp, acids stain you, and drugs cause cramp. guns aren't lawful, nooses give, gas smells awful. you might as well live.” ~ms. dorothy parker :)
still rocking it and absolutely love the new song
Tickets for under the bus, that's so clever! Love it!
Toujours des mélodies et des textes somptueux . Chapeau bas !
Cannot wait for the new album!! You’re the best
Great song. I cannot wait for the new album and tour!!
James Urbaniak always a treasure.
Wow, she has such a lovely voice!
What a great voice and great talent. It seems a lot of people come out to try to point out mental illness and mental health but not much is done for it lot of people just suffer in silence. 📡👽🇺🇸 RUN!!!
I am amazed by Aimee Mann. I just adore her. Her new album is full of melodies that grab you and just won't let go.
Thank you, Aimee💗I love you. You know just how to sing and play straight to my heart🌟
Grazie Aimee, non vedo l'ora esca il nuovo album ❤
Discovered Aimee Mann because of her singing on Rush's Time Stand Still. All these years later, I'm still buying her CDs!
This is such a gift. Thank you.
Superb. The song and the video, both superb. Well done.
Beautiful, touching.
James worked with my friend Shannon’s book “God Is Disappointed With You” and “Apocrypha Now!” Audio books.
I also get unusually long hugs from the Venture Brother creators because of their animating my life stories before I live them.
Beautiful. Thank you for your music
Love it
i listened so far 20 times
100 times.
I love i love i loveeeeee ♥ I missed your voice and your music ! You are so beautiful and your voice is so stunning...
I believe a lot of people are misinterpreting the song. The "murder" is what those left behind go through: the torture and doubt and questions that never end. On a lighter note, love that Aimee used her own home to film this!
Been waiting for so long!
Love this woman so much ❤
This is such an incredible tune. I hope Aimee Mann continues to make music for years to come!
Welcome back Aimee! Finally ❤️❤️
Thank you, Aimee. I LOVE your music. Thank you so much for what you do.
A 51-sec clip of portlandia titled "Aimee Mann" popped up. I clicked it.
That's how I first heard of this artist.
3-minutes later, I am fully smitten.
I mean, . ..absolute DaMN!
Beautiful. Thank you.
Compelling, thought provoking, and simply f***ing amazing. An artist that just gets better and better. Thank you for the music.
Sweet, sweet Aimee. The angel of music. By some miracle, my three favorite songwriters are all releasing new albums during the second half of this year. [Jay Farrar, as the bandleader for Son Volt, released 'Electro Melodier' in July. Colleen Green will release 'Cool' in September. Aimee Mann will be releasing 'Queens of the Summer Hotel' in November.]
Always special @AimeeMann!
Was there years ago...thank nature those days have passed!
