    You’re alive! I’m glad you’re back. Why haven’t you posted in the past 2 years? 😅

    Its funny the first thing I looked for was someone to install a remote start for my van (it didn't have the option). Its so annoying having to go out side every morning to start it up to get the heat going. my trade in car had remote and it was sooo nice. I still have not pulled the trigger on it yet because so far the cheapes has been around $500 installed but with a separate fob ,no app.

      Yea a bit pricey, but no rush since it can be added later. You might want to put in a backup camera if your van doesn't come with one since it has to be routed behind where furniture is going to be. I have a video on that if you have time to DIY :)

    Heck yeah, great little project! I need to start getting into some hardware projects like this. Awesome tutorial!

    Really cool stuff! Wish I could do this on my van but it's quite extensive & I want to get things done asap.. All I need is a remote start timer so I can set my temp & how long I want it to run for.. What's the simplest way to do this?

    Glad you are back posting. Thanks for all your help. Very well done. Getting ready to do my subwoofer under the drivers seat for my Pioneer head unit and want to get remote start done at the same time.
    1) I have a 2018 Promaster City, what year is yours and where did you get the install done? I tried previously to get a Viper installed at Best Buy but they canceled and refunded only saying that for some reason 2018 could not be fit with any available aftermarket kits because installation in my PC would result in irreparable damage to the electronics.
    2) Any additional guidance with the microcontroller as I don't have any experience with adapting/installing these boards? I have installed a Cradlepoint IBR1100 in the overhead storage shelf with a on off switch in the headliner as per your instructions in an earlier video. Assuming this needs to be on to work with Seri and when the radio is off you utilized the second fob as usual, correct?

      Awesome to hear, hope you're enjoying your builds :)
      1. My PMC is a '16, I'm not sure if there's something new in the '18, it might be worth asking the CDJR dealer to see if a factory remote start is an option, I would have gone with that if it were available.
      The Viper I got installed at a local car audio installer, I searched for "Remote Start" on the Yelp app and sent a project bid to all the nearby shops. There are other kits as well, I've heard of people having luck with compustar on the promaster forums.
      2. For the microcontroller, I did indeed take apart the second viper remote to trigger with the particle. The particle communicates over wifi (and mobile internet) to your phone, so siri can trigger your particle microcontroller to perform an action, like "output 3.3V on pin D2 for 100ms". Because the pin is connected to right place on the viper remote, that will result in triggering the remote as if you pushed the button! See czcams.com/video/nL34zDTPkcs/video.html for an intro to microcontrollers. The Particle Photon is (to oversimplify) kind of like an arduino with wifi.
      So, in summary, the wifi will have to be on. In fact, the internet will also have to be available with the code I shared in this video (I will post the code in the description separately), but I believe it's possible to make this work with just local internet as long as your phone is connected to the router, still have to work on that.

    Do you you have a safeguard built into your system that prevents the vehicle from being driven until an ignition key is inserted and turned? My Ford remote start has such a feature, and I wouldn’t use remote start without it.

    • @SmartVan
      @SmartVan  Před 2 lety

      Yes, by default touching any pedal will kill ignition unless a key is in

    Great Video! I am looking at using your ideas for my Travato RV Van. I want to start the engine when my house batteries need charging. I already have a device that can tell me via relay outputs when I need a charge and when I am fully charged. So those are my triggers. For the Remote start that you are using ,I see that the * button controls the start and stop. Did you have your installer change the remote programming to make the on and off a different number of presses?

    • @SmartVan
      @SmartVan  Před 3 lety

      You might be interested in my latest video on automatically starting the engine based on temperature input, you could measure house battery voltage, and do something similar for house battery charging.
      I didn't have my installer customize anything like that. It should be possible to tell if the engine is on or off based on the battery voltage I think, but I haven't gone that far yet.

      Very nice, glad to hear they'll be back in Seattle! Zach does a great job, I still think it's a good value at 8k. Once you get your build say hi on the private cascade camper customer forums!
