What do you think about the Luba 2? Is it Yea or Nay?

Its very expensive, has no grass collection and you have to pay extra for the covered parking bay so its a nay for me.
Took me 6 months reviewing all posts on Luba: only saw enthusiast owners so bought one: this is really an excellent device from my perspective. Still several App enhancements to do but they are working hard on it. I don't regret the purchase at all.
@@dominicdechangy8365 That's awesome to hear!
Hi. Can Luba 2 be moved manually to another lawn? I have front garden accessible only by stairs.
@@radkopeter Yes, sure!
Luba 2 really must be wanting to get a name for themselves. Second review I've seen on this.
Luba 2 is on a mission to be the review king! Watch out world!
Thank you for sharing our LUBA MAMMOTION. Grazie
You're welcome.
The reason it would not connect is not because of router proximity or chance. It's because when Luba is first asking for a Wifi password, it is really asking for their password. You first have to put in the Luba password before the router password. Eventually it connects, because eventually you have signed in to Mammotion. It's just a very poor communications issue in the app.
I received my Luba 2 AWD 10000 a month ago in Minnesota USA. Here are a few of my positives and negatives so far:
Positives:
No grass on driveway
Quiet
I can do other things while mowing
Makes nice straight lines
Safer than mowing myself
It can mow in the dark
Approximately the same equipment cost as riding mowers
Negatives:
Drives across cut area at an angle to recharge, messing up the lines
Always gets stuck downhill out of a mow zone (doesn't purposely stay on the uphill side)
Shuts off and sits there at random, especially when it's time to recharge
Doesn't turn while rolling (stops to make turns, very inefficient)
Charger must be out in the open, not protected under a roof
Can't mow long winding strips
Not stable when flipped over doing blade maintenance (poor top shape)
No suitcase-style handle
No 5G in my area
Thank you for your video!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and share your feedback!
The charger can be under a roof, just not a permanent one. It needs to be positioned properly during setup so then it needs satellite access. Once setup is done and it knows where the charging station and RTK are, then you can cover the charging station. Starting operations, the Luba will come out from under its roof by driving forward, and then it'll acquire its position.
Great video thanks
Hi, what about a curbside? I have a corner property with a sidewalk, that has a narrow piece of lawn alongside the street between street and sidewalk I have to mow. My Luba1 has issues staying on top of the lawn and not falling down the step. Does the camera prevent the Luba2 from falling down steps?
man! i just bought this 12 hours ago, I wish I waited till after your review to use your affiliate link, love your reviews.. Thank you for all you do
Just send it back and order it again! 🤪
@@SmartHomeJunkie 🤪🤪🤪🤪
thanks for covering. I have been holding off on robot mower also due to dependencies like perimeter wires, RTK only, etc (US market). I will say ride on mowers common for lawns like mine 3000 Sq. M plus (whether electric or fuel) are in a similar price range as this robot.
I thought you were going to show HA integration announcement :), ha ha. From a smart home perspective, I guess if I get this, I could still piece together via Alexa/Google connections. Also, fortunately, my fully kiosk / Sharptools dashboards allow some stitching of disparate Android apps together in one place.
Nice video!
It looks like an F1 car! Curious to know if it makes nice parallel stripes in the yard like a traditional mower.
Hi Ed, we have been looking for a robot mower, and are considering one which works based on GPS. I have been close to ordering a Husqvarna one, but decided to wait for next year, which is this year :). Now the big question we still have: we do not live in a football stadium or something alike, but have several large trees surrounding our ~ 40mx30m garden. I have a few spots of a few m2 where GPS coverage might be less ideal (no clue, gut feeling). Any idea what this means in a more practicle? Will it say 'error' and stop working, or just buffer things, or..? Also, how do you objectively judge it's actual mowing performance? Greetings from Ermelo on the Veluwe from a fellow HA fan and fan of your YT channel! :) Martin
I have the same concerns regarding the GPS navigation. We also have several large trees and our garden is shaped like a C around the house. I assume that one positioning device will not be sufficient. I also don't know if more then one of these positioning devices are supported at a time
I believe only the RTK unit needs a clear view to the sky for GPS connection. The mower communicates with the RTK unit. It does not communicate directly using GPS.
Ed, I think you may be mistaken there. RTK uses the calculated difference between the stationary reference and the robot receiver. A single GPS fix is not mm accurate, regardless of whether the receiver is stationary or not. As the satellites move overhead the area of probability (AOP) enlarges and shrinks. RTK overlays the two AOPs from the two receivers and eliminates the areas which do not overlap. The third input is the calculated vector (direction and distance) between the receiving station and the robot. So the robot need LOS to the sky (most of the time). It can make inferences to position if the robot loses LOS for a bit as long as it still communicates with the reference station, but accuracy degrades some.
@@desertaip9137 Thank you for this. I will double check at Mammotion. As far as what has been told to me this far is that the RTK unit should have a clear view to the sky. The robot itself is mowing below a big tree on my lawn without any issues.
@@SmartHomeJunkie and @desertaip9137 thanks both! Also here a C-shape around the house with some trees around the house. Looking forward to seeing what you get back from Mammotion! Also, I have a small pond in the corner of the garden. I do hope the no-go areas work good enough to make sure it will not just ride into it, because in theory it could haha. There's lawn, then tiles (20-30cm or so) and then it would simple plump into the pond.. :)
I use an old husqvarna 220AC with added wifi (8266) and installed tasmota on it. I control it with homeassistant and the total setup was 220 euro's. I don't think this Luba will beat this. And it was a lot of fun to install and finetune.
how does it fare under large trees with thick leaves? lets say that the rtk has a nice clear view of the sky on the roof, but the luba 2 has to mow under giant trees. will it work?
Yes, it works because of its 3D vision. Actually my lawn is below a very big tree with thick leaves.
@@SmartHomeJunkie ok nice. my lawn is basically 75% covered with 3 big trees.
It's going to be the one I buy when I move next month. Is there a possibility to do some sort of small animals test? With a stuffed animal or something? I'm going to live in an area where there will be a lot of hedgehogs (Egels) and I don't want to run over them.
There are multiple ways to detect obstacles. Even without using the bumper, but just based on the sensors.
That looks a lovely lawn mower and great that you train it on your lawn and then it navigates by differential GPS.
But ooh, the price. As you said, its a high end machine. I would be tempted if it were more around the €500 mark. Much as though I don’t like lawn mowing I can put up with it at that price…. 😂
Will this work on a wifi VLAN that has no internet, once it is configured? I’d be interested, but if it stops working if their company servers stop working, I’ll take a pass.
👍 good Video 👍
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment! I really appreciate it!
Hi, nice review!! Did you contact them and asked about connection to HASS / API?
You didn't watch the video, did you? ;)
@@SmartHomeJunkie I did watch entire video. I'm asking if you did ask them, you just said that "it's not possible to connect to HA". Maybe they have something in plans, or API of some kind.
Looks awesome! We are in the market for a ‘large’ lawn mower, so the only serious option was Husqvarna (until now). Too bad we cannot connect this one to Home Assistant just yet. Any idea when they are going to release this?
Hey, thanks for the positive feedback! They told me "Maybe another month". Keep an eye out for updates!
The battery capacity of the Luba W2 lawnmower has been increased three times 1000 max and 220 square meters can be mowed with the smallest setting and speed of time with taking away no more than a centimeter of grass
PY.
It looks like it should be doing 300 KPH on an Indy track...
Maybe we should take it for a spin and test out its top speed!
@@SmartHomeJunkie I thought I invented lawnmower racing, but I was sorely mistaken. Those were riding mowers though; this represents a new class (flying mowers will have their own).
It is google and Alexa compatible????
Yes, it is.
It's a lot of money still, but no HA integration is a deal breaker for me. To help justify the price I would want to trigger camera zones and send the mower to take photos like I do with me RoboVac when away.
Maybe the mower could even take selfies with the camera zones! #LawnSelfies
@@SmartHomeJunkie That's what I am talking about hahaha!!! Imagine Frigate zone triggers "Person" detection and the mower takes a better angle and sends the photo. Needs to do more then just cut the lawn for me. I am sure a HACS release may come out later for this.
No Home Assistant integration? 😥
Did you watch the video? Mammotion told me that they "might be working on it".
@@SmartHomeJunkie Yeah, of course I did ... always do ... love your content! 🤩But that's why I'm so disapointed: Such a great tool, but then lacking a simple API for control and status feedback. This should really be provided ... then it looks perfect. 😃
@@Teckstudio Yeah, sorry. I thought you asked a question. I sure hope they will add the HA integration as well! I talked to them about it.
Love my Luba 2! The real missing part is the logs and kind of report telling you what the robot did and remind you when it did which part of your garden. I hope they have motivated developers to keep on improving the potential of this great product!
That is not a review but an unboxing. Use the product for a month or two and then make a review. Your review should talk about the performance and how well it does its jobs and mention any problems.
You know, especially for you I will create a post about it in a month or two. 😛
@@SmartHomeJunkiehow is it performing? Considering it for my Mum so would love to know.
@@awestrope74 Hi! It's performing great for me. I positioned the base station on my patio away from the lawn and created a channel between the base station and my lawn. This way, the robot first moves to the lawn and then starts mowing. Part of my lawn doesn't have much grass, so I didn't include that part to be mowed. Otherwise the robot kills the young and fragile grass that I sowed there.
Better buy a good EU product. Otherwise you pay twice😂
Where do you think that "EU products" are manufactured?
Luba 2 hælt nicht sein Versprechen wenn nicht sehr guter RTK Empfang ist, glaubt es mir, dann macht er Probleme
Yes sure, you need to make sure that the RTK unit has a clear view to the sky!
