Well, the OP said they had one PC. But if you want to know how to do it without a PC, use one at your local library or you could use whatever device your using to type this comment; just get an adapter of your power port to usb.

@@IIIytlll I have the same error as you. In my case the C drive is a 100MB "System Reserved" partition (that used to be hidden) with just a Temp folder. Windows was somehow moved to drive D from C. So these instructions don't work for me.
This command found my Windows installation on D
      bootrec /scanos
This command is meant to find my Windows then allow me to restore it:
      bootrec /rebuildbcd
That finds Windows on D:\Windows, then asks if I want to add it to the boot list. Answering yes results in this error: The requested system device cannot be found.
Rather than waste another hour or two on this I will be reinstalling.
This is the second time a major Windows update has triggered this issue for me, but I don't have that much software to reinstall (about 12 apps that I keep on an external drive now) so it only takes about an hour to do that. I wish I could figure out some quicker solution though.

Unrelated, but I decided to also rebuild the machine at the same time with a PCIe SATA card for my new 1TB SSD and now things are running much faster on this 2013 box as well. Probably worth it in the end this time to get everything cleanly installed.

[Solved] I received error messages "access denied" for the "bootrec /fixboot" command and "path not found" for the "attrib c:\boot\bcd -h -r -s" command and "bcdedit /export c:\bcdbackup" command. I found a tutorial (doesn't seem I can link to it from here) that basically says run "bootrec
ebuildbcd" first and add the windows installation to the boot list. THEN run "attrib c:\boot\bcd -h -r -s", and THEN run "bootrec
ebuildbcd" AGAIN and add the windows install to the boot list and restart the computer. I never had to use "bootrec /fixboot", and the "bcdedit /export c:\bcdbackup" is simply used to backup the file (which didn't exist for me), it is not required. Background: All my problems started after using Macrium Reflect v8 to clone drives (from HDD to SSD) on two separate computers and different brands of brand new SSDs. After the "clone", my desktop would not boot, even the source drive would not boot. Luckily on my laptop, the source drive still worked, so I was able to begin fixing things from there.

    THIS WORKED FOR ME.
    Rebuild BCD
For this solution we are going to rebuild the BCD “Boot Configuration Data” To rebuild the BCD follow these steps
Insert the Windows 10 Recovery Media and turn your machine on and boot to the usb drive
You might need to go in to your BIOS and change the boot order putting the USB device as 1st boot device
    1. On the first screen select your required language and keyboard layout and click next.
    2. On the next screen click on Repair your computer, Do not click on install now.
    3. On the choose an option screen click on troubleshoot
    4. On the troubleshoot screen click on advanced options
    5. On the advanced options screen click on Command Prompt
    0xc00000e boot bcd
    6. In the command prompt window enter the command
    bootrec /rebuildbcd
    7. You will be prompted “Add installation to the boot list?” enter Y and hit enter
    bootrec command
You should see “The operation completed successfully” if all went well.
    8. Reboot your machine

the right way to repair this:
if your pc was working before but now has this error, go ahead and start the windows install procedure. It'll say windows needs to restart to continue and to remove the USB or DVD with windows 10 on it. Do that, and next time you restart it should boot back to your original windows install, essentially repairing itself until next time your PC is shutdown

I deleted a few things in C:/ the root folder for the system because some folks said it is save to delete e.g. "boot". When I tried to start the machine it says now status: 0xC000000F, no booting device found. I entered the original win8.1 DVD and the repair function did not correspond. So I'll have to try this via command prompt and see what happens.
