A warrior culture is definitely what should be brought back to the military. A few years ago I brought my kids with me to Petawawa military base to show them what life was like on base. What a mistake. The base was run down and unkept. Not at all what I was trying to show them. To see what has been left to fester in place of the proud military I once served was disheartening.

That's not from lack of warrior culture, it's a lack of giving a fuck the leadership in Ottawa has. If they want to make "change" get rid of half the GOFOs and their staff. Then the base might have the money to get things done.

I worked on decommissioning the Nanaimo base in the 90s, brought home a 200 pound Wang minicomputer they were throwing away, even then the thought was to leave a ton of crap in there and fill and seal it up what a mess, so much history lost. (It was donated to the local college that didn't want it, not stolen)

Its difficult to do so, Pierre spells it out plainly, we are at the bottom of the barrel. We can only do so much with a heavily broken budget. There is no single solution and I like that Pierre doesn't sugarcoat things. His common sense can only go so far. If that plan eventually works and gets a surplus, only then can we meet targets, and Pierre knows not to say simply to spend the 2% necessary. As all the immigrants and temporary or illegal foreign workers are taking our jobs and money and sending it back to their home. The plan needs to work first and we see results before we can spend on other things.

As a veteran, I couldn't agree more with Pierre. Our military must embody a physically and mentally fit warrior culture. The demands of modern warfare require not only physical strength and endurance but also mental resilience and agility. A well-rounded soldier is one who can adapt to rapidly changing situations, maintain composure under pressure, and make strategic decisions in the heat of the moment. Cultivating such a culture ensures that our military personnel are prepared to face the challenges of the battlefield and emerge victorious. It's about fostering a sense of discipline, camaraderie, and unwavering commitment to excellence, all of which are crucial for maintaining the security of Canada and our allies and the effectiveness of our armed forces. Obviously Trudeau totally missed that mark.

Won't work any more. You need a strong and big enough core to be able to train and work the conscripts. That does not exist. It would also strengthen the Lib/NDP position, by forcing Canadians to do something they don't want to do. Finally, how would the conscripts be treated within the military. If they are 'coddled', then it was a waste of time and resources. If they are subject to 'strict discipline' and a 'proper dress and deportment' (something better than the current), many would cry, seek psych help, and claim that they were abused -- again a waste of time and resources.

Of overall happiness in other countries, their common thread is mandatory military service. It serves to promote patriotism (which we sorely lack), cohesiveness of a group (which we so sorely need) and a purpose to serve others. Countries such as: Norway, Australia, Denmark, Sweden and Israel all have conscription and overall their population rank as one of the happiest in the world. It should be implemented here to build our nation and strength of young adults. I went to pick up a sheet of 3/4” plywood and asked for help loading it. The store sent a young adult to help and he could barely lift the sheet!

My years of service… 1967-96. Under both Conservative & Liberal PMs. I’m 3rd generation family member to have served. The destruction of the Canadian military has been ongoing since the end of WW2, by both of Canada’s traditional governing parties. Period. JT is just the latest instalment of the ongoing betrayal of our military. Harper only did what he did because a CDS told him that failure to properly equip the military on the Afghan battlefield would mean many trips to CFB Trenton to greet coffins. Harper was told that the Canadian military equipment coming out of Afghanistan required replacement as it was totally worn out. Neither Harper nor JT took steps to replace worn out equipment in any timely fashion. Poilievre is correct in saying that JT is making highly questionable promises as to upgrading Canada’s military. Promises way beyond any year he or his Party might be in power. Poilievre is correct in getting out the… Conservatives can’t meet NATO 2% because it’s all JT’s fault… excuse early. I hope America & Europe don’t accept that & offer Poilievre a choice… make the 2% happen or leave… 1) NATO, 2) NORAD, 3) the EU- Canada trade deals & 4) the U.S.-Canada trade deals. No more excuses from either of Canada’s traditional governing parties. Period.
