I am using 2nd-life LFP batteries, charged with a cheap PWM controller that puts out 14.4 volts. I like having the battery instead of the voltage regulator because it maintains a regular flow of current. What you're doing works, but under variably cloudy conditions the fridge will be turning on and off a lot.
