Specifically any mods or what system for you vehicle...
    Was vehicle overheating a problem?

Did you ever blow a hose/radiator...what did you put in the jeep to cool it down?

Such a good video! The way you explained overlanding in this video is spot on. We have only been through USA, Mexico, Belize and Guatemala overland before having to return to NZ. After 5 months in the USA we became scared to go to Mexico after constantly being told how dangerous it was. We were told we would be captured in the desert after we crossed the border, beheaded and our bodies buried in the desert. Even now, when we tell people we spent 6 months driving through Mexico, they ask "how much drugs did you take". "What about the Cartel". The border crossing was nothing like we expected and definitely not what you see on tv. The only drugs we were offered were from foreigners and we never knowingly met the cartel or had any problems with violence, not even the slightest. Yet our last week in NZ we had our car vandalised twice and my partner was assaulted. Our first night camping in the USA and a cop pulled a gun on us. The media is not a fair portrayal of the truth.

Like Dan I'm an ordinary person. I had a dream 12 years ago and started living it. In 2008/09 I rode from the east coast of Canada to the most southern city of South America by motorcycle for 9 months. I've since flown to several countries around the world, purchased motorcycles, and ridden around exploring for months. Now that I'm older and appreciate (need) more comfort, I'm building a truck and plan to travel as much of the world as I'm able. What Dan says in this video is on point. The world is much safer than the media would have you believe. It's not nearly as expensive. Treat people with kindness and respect and chances are you will be looked after. Be open to new challenges, different ways of doing things, and you will learn so much. It's not as hard as you might have been lead to believe. I've never met Dan. I started following his adventures just before he embarked on his African adventure. I'm happy to support him and have signed up to his new Patreon page. We need more of the type of message Dan is saying here.

    • @RobertVinet
      @RobertVinet Před 4 lety

@@TheRoadChoseMe It's almost surprising we have not already crossed paths. We've been to many of same places, had many of the same influences (Long Way Round, Jupiter's Travels - have you met Ted? awesome yet modest chap), been to some of the same overland events. I'm on the east coast. My current plans are to head to BC, via Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, South America then north, in about 10 or 15 years. But Covid has put that on pause. Being a long term traveller we need to be flexible, so maybe sooner.

    great stuff Dan,
One topic which would be interesting is finding out about the local attractions, the basic talk to other campers you meet is great but finding good local knowledge is gold.
I like to wing when traveling cafe and gas stations are sometimes very helpful with finding attractions, speaking only english can be limiting in some places.
Crossing the border from Nepal to Tibet was interesting mainly as our tour operator upset somebody, but as you say be polite and smile and it'll be a lot easier.
Now We are stranded on that big island yes, but I figure there is about 10 or 20 years worth of overlanding to do here without leaving LOL.

The best thing I found was you can have a "holiday" from your holiday. @TheRoadChoseMe  Před 4 lety +2

Remember when you're driving the world it doesn't matter if a country won't let you register a "wrong hand drive" - i.e. I drove my LHD Jeep through Namibia which absolutely does not let LHD be registered locally.
Because as tourists we are just "temporarily importing" them, which is a whole different set of rules.
As it stands right now no country on earth does not allow LHD vehicles to pass through. A few do not allow RHD vehicles.

Just came across your channel and so glad I did, very informative, as I too have overland dreams in the future. I was surprised that you explained paperwork for getting in and out of countries as easy and CPD Carnet as not necessary, as that is my number 1 concern. My route would take me from Australia then north through Asia to Europe, and from my research a Carnet is absolutely necessary. Not to mention some countries such as Thailand which prohibits foreign vehicles altogether, or Myanmar and China which do not allow overland travel freely without a guide. Would definitely like to hear your future episode specifically on CPD Carnet. Cheers!

      Hi Damar,
Your route is for sure "harder" and requires a Carnet. I'll do that video soon!

Great summary of the requirements. The biggest thing I'm desperate to know about is regarding taking a trailer with you. Something robust like a Conqueror 490. It would be nice to have just a little more living space that the interior of a vehicle provides for 2 people, but the thought of the additional unknown headaches that may come along with bringing a trailer make me trepidatious more than anything else. Would love to hear any insights, positive or negative, that you have regarding a worldwide expedition with a trailer vs without. Thanks for all the info and videos you share! I can't wait for the next big adventure, but this videos are fantastic as well.

Thank you for another wonderful video! I think I am watching them out of order, but all the same, I am LOVING them! What do I want to know about: hygiene! Did you always sleep in your vehicle? If so, how do you keep your self clean and how did you keep your vehicle clean? I have seen some of your videos in desert's and very muddy places, what happens to your bedding? When and how do you wash your self, your clothing, your bedding, etc.

On your travels which countries did to need the Carnet for and for those that you were using just the vehicle registration how many countries request a cash bond of some kind upon entry?

You should consider planning for other people their expedition. Like a service and not just telling people what to do. You should work with hiring fixers on borders, hiring local guides, booking guesthouses or hostels. It may function like a travel agency, but specialized in Cross Borders Overlanding. Your knowledge is quite rare and your experience is recent. It may value some money. Great content! Congratulations.

Thanks for the suggestion! It's an interesting idea, and I've thought about guiding people through some of the more wild places I've been.
At this point I'm focusing on teaching people how to get out on their own expeditions, not making them dependant on others (like me).

Great video as always! I'm considering doing a trip from the US down to Ushuaia on a 250cc motorcycle. I know you have only done trips in a Jeep but I would be curious to see a video with a guest who has done it on a smaller motorcycle.

    Hi,
your material is by far the most detailed and planned out I've ever seen. I particularly liked the 5 mods for international overlanding. Anyhow, since you've asked for questions I have some:
    1. the thing I am more concerned about with car camping is security. are there things you follow in terms identifying secure spots, or be prepared for a sudden intrusion, alarm systems?
    2. do you bring with you spare parts for the vehicle. How do you going about identifying the parts to bring? Is there a generic list that's good to have? Are there vehicle specific entries?
