    And don’t let age stop you. I am over 60. I am teaching at an International school and as a fully qualified teacher I didn’t need a TEFL cert because I teach an International curriculum in English. And for sure - if you have a comfort zone, just be ready to ditch it completely. 😂 Thanks Tom. Great information

    I also think if you are big person you can always use tailor service. They can make shirts that suit your bodytype for reasonable price. Never use thought 😃

    Hi Tom
    I haven't yet looked at the TEFL course that you recommend, but I assume they don't run one in Siem Reap. I will check them out, but do you know if there are nany teaching jobs in Siem Reap?. .

    • @TomTripsOut
      @TomTripsOut  Před 8 měsíci

      The course takes place in Phnom Penh but they can help you find work in Siem Reap as you complete the program. They also do Vietnam

    Hey Tom, great vid. Just a had a few questions regarding the visa stuff:
    So the best way to do things is to show up without a visa, then get an E/ordinary visa at the airport which is then changed to business visa once offered a job in Cambodia?
    Once this is done would someone then have to apply for a work permit as well?
    Cheers!

      You are correct, and yes you also need a work permit. When you get a teaching job the school helps you apply for that aswell as open a bank account. Often the school will pay back most of the costs too

    Hi again
    My partner and I are thinking of going to live in Cambodia. We were going to get the visa with the retirement extension, but it seems you cannot even do online work on this. I am mulljng around the idea of teaching with a TEFL accreditation, but I am soon gojng to be 71, so maybe I won't want to work 40 hour weeks.😮 and probably no school would hire me. i also thought I would do an online proofreading course and try to do that online. If I did that, I would need to get a different type of visa. I would need to be earning money while living in Cambodia. I would think the teaching English idea would not be feasible. If I was younger, the combination of having both a TEFL certificate and a proofreading certificate may have been advantageous.
    Other than that, I don't know of any other work I could do over there.

      There are many Senior teachers here. Age doesn’t matter at all. But most of the jobs are full time hours

    Does the school supply a laptop or do I have to bring my own, or can I just go without one? I really am not fond of toting my personal computer to school everyday and have it get wet in the rain or damaged.

    • @TomTripsOut
      @TomTripsOut  Před rokem +1

      You need your own Laptop. There are desktop computers in the school you could use but no one does that

      If it’s a legitimate and recognized TEFL then yes. If you have a bachelor degree too you could work in Vietnam- check out AVSE TESOL - they have a jobs program for people who have a TEFL. www.avse.edu.vn

    What kind of pay / compensation is possible with the 'working visa' - and - are taxes taken out & if so what % or how much do you actually keep ? -- And is there an age limit for old people to teach there in Cambodia ? -- Some old US retired people over 55 might be on SS & also want to teach ? Visa for that ???

    • @TomTripsOut
      @TomTripsOut  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Any pay is possible. If youre a teacher the most common range is like 1100-1400 a month. There are specialized schools that pay more. Yea tax gets taken off your pay, as well as heath benefits and pension. The tax is 10% i think. - No age limit. You can be 100 years old and still teach. Theres no special working visa if youre old. Youre either retired or working. If you get a retirement visa you are not allowed to work

      Schools are hiring at anytime so it doesnt matter when. But I guess August is best cause its leading into September. - I got hired last year in April with 3 months left in the school year which shows you could be hired at anytime
