The Elektron Digitone has a LOT of features. After owning it for about a year, I embarrassingly just discovered a new one for myself: Layering. This allows you to control the Sound of one track with the Trigs of a different track. Simple as that! I'll explore a couple of creative applications of trig layering in this video.

Initial track has real Dntel vibe, sounds dope.
Thanks! The finished track is called "Maria" on steaming :)
Great explanation, making new ideas of using the digitone
Great tip! I just received my new Digitone and updated the firmware for the new song mode which right now is one of my favorite features! Great to chain song patterns together for a live set. I like using mine with Overbridge so powerful. Probably my favorite new synth in long time next to the Octatrack.
Good tips! I'm learning a new Digitone, so I appreciate these videos. Love the jam as well!
Thanks a ton!
Whoa! You just blew my mind. Thank you for sharing the knowledge and inspiration, keeping my beats fresh.
Helll yeah, glad to hear that!
Pretty cool trick, I've been using the Digitone for years now and I had no idea about that. Thanks for sharing!
Glad I could help!! Super fun to mess around with
This was really cool, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Great Tip!
Just want to say your videos are awesome.
Thanks a ton for watching!
Just tried it out and it's amazing. I also like the fact that you can add extra notes on the track which is being layered to.
yes, I'm glad you tried it out!
Super helpful!
Glad it helped!
Me, but a green Elektron padawan trying to explain this video to my wife. "Well, he's uh...taking a cool thing and making it cooler."
It’s all so cool!!!
I use that sometimes, a really cool feature :)
Isn’t it? So happy to have found it
Also this track is bomb AF
:) thank ya!
while watching and trying to recreate @TheGuacamoleXplosion's Paul Lansky "Mild Und Leise" patch from his "Classic FM Sounds Reimagined on the Elektron Digitone" video, it occurred to me that by using trig layers, we can use all 4 tracks as segments/additive partials in a larger multi-timbral patch where each track serves as one sort of oscillator in the whole overall sound. Kind of in the way one would use the A4 as a unison mono synth with neighbor routing and such . Anyway, yes it's a very powerful option. I just havent worked out voice locking perfectly in that specific scenario yet. I assume it would be best to lock 2 per track or just lock nothing and only play 2 notes at once, or engage "Unison"?
Yeah I think 2 voices per track would be the way to go! I’d love to experiment with that, there’s so much you could do with slowly evolving patches
Layer is amazing, i dont get why its not implemented on digitakt and syntakt too, would be great for layering drum sounds quickly.
Yeah it really would!
Probably because no voice page.
@@inkajoo theres two unused knobs available on the trig page… it could even be lockable!
Hope that headphone output isn't going into a audio interface as that can damage your Digitone, I have a few synths that act weird when I've done that, like the screen and lights pulsing/dimming due to a higher current being drawn
Nope, it’s not!
EPIC! I need to watch this again but I assume you can also add note trigs to a track that's being controlled by a layer to get some additional movement. And change the pitch of the trigs been fired by the layer to get a harmony going? I will try it out today! Hope all is well
I would think so! I’m assuming it would prioritize any more info entered on the track being controlled. There’s always the possibility of adjusting the ratios/algorithm/levels for harmonization as well! Such a cool tool, the Digitone is full of secrets
Mark, additional trigs and parameter locks on the track that is being layered will trigger. You can also transpose the track and that will affect the note being played. You can think of the first layer (T1) being a MIDI sequencer for the second layer (T2). One way I use this is to play chords on one track and layer that with an arpeggiated sound.
Just a speed tip, you don’t need to place trigless trigs if you want to record parameter automation on a track. Just REC-PLAY and twiddle away. :)
@@NathanielPaffettLugassy yes that’s correct! It works just how any other live-record knob twiddling would
I didn't even know it had this!
You def gotta try it out!
