I love the idea of the ring and the snap; this is a nice way to get a little pressure release without spending a ridiculous amount for the similar snap that some horse catalogs sell. Thanks for the ideas!

If you allow the rope to slide when pulled, the horse is learning he can pull to get release. The wrong lesson.

Yep I should have been more clear on this. The friction release using a tie ring allows the horse to find that release of the halter, web or rope, on his poll between steps as he pulls back. After sacking a horse out on pulling back using a tie ring, really any tie ring, I have hard tied horses and have them pull back for whatever reason - usually spooking - only to have them stop once they feel pressure on the poll - which is what they learned from the tie ring session. As far as using the tie ring in trailer, hooking to an inside D ring, I always daisy chain the excess lead rope when tying a horse in a trailer. On ranch roads in a stock trailer I usually don't tie a horse at all. Regards.

Use a proper leather or Nylon head collar.....NEVER EVER a rope halter.

The use of the word 'never' in discussions about horses is a clue.
