If you want to try your hand at the Web Dev Challenge, the hackathon is on now! lwj.dev/wdc-hackathon We've got the Algolia team standing by to support you and a community of devs who are excited to see what you build. Come create a new portfolio project and make some new connections!
Yo! Interested in having a random, fairly new, less than a year old developer come in and build utilizing ai to make it work? I'd love to come join, and I'm confident I can make it happen. Hit me up, if interested.
My takeaway is that true senior developers aren’t afraid to say I don’t know and have a great attitude struggling to figure out problems. Loved this episode!
Your project was very you. As I was watching and I peeped the Nan from a distance in one of the interview shots of you, I was like "Alex is going to kill it with the creativity despite the limitation of time and overall tool challenge".
I loved Shaundai's calmness and confidence she puts forward. We all have than one friend with Alex's tactics. "I don't know much" when they're geniuses
5:20 "I'm not one of those developers that work fast" HE SAID and built a functional app (I'd consider them 2 apps), created a character using CSS, built 3d designs on Blender, and did it all within 4 hours. The first two apps were like "All right, I maybe could do it" but Alex brought it up a notch. Jason's app was unlucky in this episode. It was a great idea and a great execution, I would love to spend hours on it, but unfortunately for Jason, Alex overshadowed everyone.
I love how you keep upgrading the show and inviting good and known developers to participate. I really enjoy watching your videos and learn a lot from them.
I love that these episodes put me onto tools that I don’t know about and can’t wait to utilize and play with. Amazing series for engineers in the beginning of their careers.
Alex, as a fellow over-engineer I understand. I’ve noticed we either over-engineer in 3 directions by either exceeding the app functionality goal with useless features while poorly focusing on the integral parts, rebuild a way to build an app(me🤦🏾♂️), or over invest in to one (typically none core) feature. The idea of switching pages based on prior search results is interesting af, cheers mate🥂
Haha thanks Marty! Glad others out there feel the same desire to do all of the fun stuff that isn't technically the main thing. Core features are for other developers, I'm here for the ✨nonsense✨
I absolutely loved the whole idea of coming together to build something with such seamless integration. Shaundai's confidence is truly inspiring, she shows it effortlessly and proves she's at the top of her game! Really cool stuff. I'm definitely going to check out Algolia, it seems like a really cool tool too.
I like this format where it shows the process they go through to build the challenge and their thoughts during it. Makes for very engaging and dramatic content lol
This is such an amazing video series! I just started taking programming seriously so I am very beginner (tips will be very helpful if you can on this journey) but this video opened my eyes to the possibilities of what I can do with code! So many wonderful creative ideas using Algolia. Keep up the good work.
one thing for sure it really peaks my motivation i feel like im the only one who feel like what the hell im doing untill it did it. great real web programming
Would love to see an alt cut (maybe just for subscribers) that shows more of the upfront talk given by the sponsor to the devs before the challenge begins, in this case more from NIck. I imagine there has to be more of that pre-game info and Q&A between Nick and all the participants before planning start time that is just cut for time. Looking forward to the Web Dev Challenge Hackathon kick-off call on Friday.
I enjoyed this and becoming a future software engineer myself this is what I look forward to. Making my ideas into real life creations and solutions. Games, Websites and Designs yeah all the good stuff.
Hey jason!! The projects are sometimes waay more amazing to just watch. We sometimes wanna learn how they are created as well. Can the web devs create tutorials of the projects? Even if it is made after the video?
Great video! The twist really added an exciting challenge to the project. Loved seeing the creative solutions you came up with. Keep up the awesome work!
I love Shaundai’s confidence . Alex, this is for you 🌹. You’re a genius manh! Alex did all that within four hour and I’m here struggling for days to clone my church website 😅
Wow. I really enjoyed watching this.😂 I saw Shaundai in the thumbnail and I was like let me click on this video and see what's up and I loved it. Good job guys.
Hey Jason you did something wasn't ever before right and I really really lovet the way you make the video and the building awesome I watched all the videos in your chanel and I want to say with please go forward and don't stop the awesome you've making please and please make alot videos such like this. And last I'm saying I learned alot from you 💯 ❤ bye 👋
Ben Affleck def. hit a home run with his Nan's Knits website. I am not even into coding but had so much fun watching this. Great humor and personalities.
i know its probably good for retention to not tell us what people’s plans are/what they are working on so we have to watch till the end but it also makes the first half of the video slightly confusing, i mean its mostly people cracking jokes about their projects which i want to know what they planned to see how well it got executed- idk its just a thought, other than that i love this series, keep it up man!
This was a great episode! it's so fun seeing people I follow on Twitter sitting in front of the code and struggling like the rest of us. Nick was such a resource and sleeper-salesman. I want to try Algolia for something now. it would be cool to have some Netflixers battle eachother. Primeagen (former), Shaundai, Trashdev etc.

Show host: So today the focus will be on Algolia!
Alex: Lemme spend 4 hours rendering a custom 3D model using threejs
RIGHT?!
I might have misunderstood the assignment...
@@TrostCodes quite au contraire.
Dude said algolia api was a nice ux so it took a few minutes to setup win win lol
absolute madlad
My takeaway is that true senior developers aren’t afraid to say I don’t know and have a great attitude struggling to figure out problems. Loved this episode!
Amazing. Thanks for writing this
Alex is that kid that always says he bombed an exam and ends up curving the entire class. 😂 this was a lot fun to watch. Thanks everyone!
Very true he was the best
ikrrrr😮😮😮
It's interesting to see senior developers struggle like junior developers, which is very relatable.
This was SO much fun, thanks again for having me on, Jason! Was a blast working alongside such incredible devs ❤
Your project was very you. As I was watching and I peeped the Nan from a distance in one of the interview shots of you, I was like "Alex is going to kill it with the creativity despite the limitation of time and overall tool challenge".
Yours was cool!🙌 Like the darkweb that you enter with a simple magic word😂😂
Which theme you use
Which font you use.
love the show, loved to see you on there 🤌🏼
A reality show of developers, by developers, for developers?? Subscribed!! Immediately! Please continue to do more

This might be the longest, but possibly best advert I've seen for a dev tool. Just Nick Vlku's attitude about the product sold me already tbh.
My favourite episode so far... Everyone's ideas were dope. Alex's definitely my favourite with Jason coming next. Love from 🇳🇬

I love that these episodes put me onto tools that I don’t know about and can’t wait to utilize and play with. Amazing series for engineers in the beginning of their careers.
This was fun to watch! I love your energy. You guys were active throughout the process.
Randomly stumbled upon your channel and I'm glad this is the 1st episode that introduced me to it. Instant sub. great content!

Wow. I love the creativity and the awesomeness of the Algolia logic. This is the definition of a super team. The banter was unparalleled. Love it.

That's just amazing one thing that i love the most is how clean their codes are (love from Pakistan 🇵🇰)
This was so entertaining to watch. It's amazing what senior devs can come up with. Awesome stuff!!
Nice job
It takes composure and a decent level of understanding to get this done in 4hrs even with the assistance of AI
one thing for sure it really peaks my motivation i feel like im the only one who feel like what the hell im doing untill it did it. great real web programming
thank you! and if you want to join in on the fun, we've got a hackathon going for this episode: lwj.dev/wdc-hackathon

You have 4 hours to build an app and you get time to model a blanket in Blender??? WOW!
Alex is a really funny guy
for real
You are really proving that you are a web dev even your name is Jason 😆
This was really funny, and impactful
He built an e-commerce site and even drew a 3D model of blankets in blender in just 4hrs?

Alex's app was a blast!! WHAT WAS HE WORRIED ABOUT
"I like to take timeout for the people" - Shaundai 🤣
@TrostCodes whipping out the blender model gave me a proud dad moment 🥹 Also a little mad it isn't NaN's Knits.
NaN's Knits omg
Haha I should have phoned a friend for this excellent pun. Love ya, buddy.
