I have a British Short Hair and its upsetting me because i look after him so much and all he wants to do is run away from our family. He's using us and theres nothing i can do about it :(
+Hsk Creed i have the same problem more or less...i have a male one and he is like a bit stressed when i pet him...not allways bot often....weird...he could newer stay put so long for me to brush him ...not to mention bathing :)) after 2 3 minites of brusshing he is allready twiching his tail....
My cat is part British shorthair, I think, and he didn't like to be petted when he was little, so I worked him up to it while he was eating. I think he had to be desensitized a little bit.
this video is like that delicious cooking recipe you think is easy to copy but soon as you try you realize it doesnt go as smooth as you thought it would
Its so weird. I had a horrible day today, but then for some reason, this is the first video I see when I come home. And its one of the most relaxing, soothing, and amazing videos I've seen in a long time.
I can actually feel the love and care in these actions and your cat knows it's being treated with kindness and love. Thank you for this very helpful tutorial
WARNING!!!: It's wise to start the bathing process as a kitten, so the cat gets used to it. That will make it much easier. Otherwise you run the risk of needing a blood transfusion every month. That's pretty costly lol
+pustulio81 Haha ! Yep we just got ours two weeks ago and she's soon going to be four months . She getting a bath this weekend lol ( With me wearing gloves lol)
for most cats you would be right but british shorthairs don't need to bathe unless they get really dirty( british shorthairs are more inside cats) or are too old to lick themselves
Maybe you should bathe a cat or maybe you shouldn't. All I can see is the cat really loves the attention and is perfectly content. I have had British Shorthairs and they tend to be mild mannered and very self composed. They are a wonderful breed and this is a very handsome boy.
He really has not had any special training, but it is true that he takes baths a week before going to an international exhibition. Approximately he takes a bath two to three times a year. Thanks for your comment, Raisya! kisses and purrs!
He is a beautiful cat. Mine is 15 months old and white. I'm gathering up the courage to bathe her. I introduced her to an empty bath and she loved that. I hope I haven't left it too late, we only got her 2 weeks ago and she is a real sweetheart.
@@sobiaamber8473I started bathing my Burmese on his first day home. He got into something immediately, and made a mess! British Shorthairs, I never had to worry about doing that. My random bred cats and fosters have been wild cards, when it comes to bath time. Most are fearful. I hope it went well. The treat at the end is a great idea! I also only bathe mine for show, if they get into something, or are old and ill.
what a well behaived cat !!! he looked so clean in the end although I think u expose him to many chamicals ? powder? tooth past ? and also cleaning the ear ? maybe thats too much
Not caring? Catty seems to be annoyed a lot hehe. And bored really bored, just like: My Refrigerator Opener talks a lot of BS today into this little Thing he calls "camera". I wonder when she will be done with this...
Long years ago, I had a combination-Breed that loved to take her bath with me. Whenever I jumped into the Tub, she made a Hopp, and joined me! So what may I say? The Cat-shampoo worked well on my body and had no negative effect on me... MIAU...
This looks like a cat I had once. I would bathe him in the kitchen sink and then fluff dry him with a towel. I even got him a stocking at Christmas. He was the best cat ever.
I don't know what you are all on about if she wants to groom her cat she can, and she handles it completely fine, get fucked will you? Tired of people trying to push off their beliefs as fact onto others. If you look at the cat it is clearly quite happy to be getting cleaned. Cats do clean themselves yes, and their saliva contains the chemical which bothers allergy sufferers. A weekly bath will not HARM the cat in any way and it will make it much more friendly to those with allergies. Maybe she has bad allergies and really likes cats? Ever think of that one? No probably not.
Something I need to say for all the people who say cats don't need baths: Cats are like dogs but they lick more so people generally think cats don't need baths but this is very wrong, cats do need a bath just not as much as dogs. Cats also should have their eyes cleaned because the 'gunk' (if too much piles up) can cause irritation to the eyes. Clipping their claws should be done too (but it doesn't need to be often) because sometimes cats claws will break because of maybe climbing or scratching something so it can catch on the skin or make it uncomfortable to walk around. You don't HAVE to clean the ears but if your cat gets lots of ear wax then just a quick clean could do some good. If you never bathe you cat (then stuff that you can't see) dirt and other nasty stuff can build up and you'll never know and this could cause fleas to appear. I'm not saying you should ALWAYS bathe your cat but giving it a quick bathe every now and then will do your cat some good. I hope this helps people who don't know whether they should bathe their cat or not!
You don't have to bathe your cat every week just every few weeks, it doesn't have to be a long bath just a quick one is good for the cat and, no, it isn't a 'traumatic experience' some cats do love water.
***** www.aspca.org/pet-care/cat-care/bathing-your-cat With her built-in grooming tools (tongue and teeth, of course), your fastidious feline is well-equipped to tackle her own haircare needs. But if she is very dirty or gets into something sticky or smelly, you may need to give her a bath - that's when you do it.
I had one once. Had already hard time to cut nails. Washing: mission impossible. Besides cats clean themselfs and dont need a bath, just cleaning eyes from time to time.
Damn! This cat gets a more detailed and luxurious cleaning than Ive ever had in my life :-P I wish I were this cat. I can see how shes learned to accept this over time.
What a little cutie :) if shows how much love and trust there is between you my cats are also well behaved and enjoy all the attention they can get and would never scratch or bit and havent in all 18ys that I have had them :) show love and they will show it back
My BSH, Chessie, loved her daily baths, in her last year of life. Same as my Burmese, though he only needed them for a few months. When they know they need help to clean themselves, they understand. Especially if you’ve created that trust, which you clearly have done early. It soothed their aching joints to be warm and weightless. 💙
My cat would easily get overstimulated, too. I had to pet him while he ate. I think maybe he liked his ears to be scratched more than to be petted, so that also helped him work up to it. For a treat, I give him a dab of goat cheese.
I want one of these cats one day and always wondered how to properly groom them. Great video - It was super informative and helpful! Although, may I just point out how well behaved your cat is? Somehow I imagine my future cat's reaction to this being a lot different!
How do you get your kitty so calm? I can give mine a good hour of brushing with some force and lots of strokes but he does escape in the end. I really need to get to the tuffs of fur on his tummy. Any ideas?
I never went so far in bathing my cat unless he got dirty. I used an oatmeal-based shampoo on occasion, but that was about it. I tried using a blow dryer once, and he slapped it out of my hand. I couldn't put him through that experience regularly. Feeling his heart pump through the towel when I dried him off was too much. We were still bros after baths though, so the "trauma" was one he could live with better than I. He loved being groomed in general, though, and I never had a problem clipping his nails, cleaning his teeth, getting rid of that gunk in his eyes, or brushing him. He didn't even mind having warm water poured on him when I was just trying to clean up small, difficult to reach spots in his fur.
thanks i gave my british shorthair a bath for the first time andhe didnt mind really and didnt meow and niw he smells so good! how often should i do it? once a month? every two months?
I adopted a 2 yr old BSH, and she wasn't trained to be bathed. I tried it once she was extremely scared, but I forced finished her bath. Any tips on how I can train her to like bathing. Also what are u using at 8:50 ? What it is for? Thanks.
The cat looks like he's having a spa treatment LOL
very very very patient cat!!!
I have a British Short Hair and its upsetting me because i look after him so much and all he wants to do is run away from our family. He's using us and theres nothing i can do about it :(

I'm surprised this cat is so patient! I love British Shorthairs.

Why do we need a blood transfusion?

What a chubby cute cat! Im getting one tomorrow! I cant wait!!!
I hope you and your cat are good buddies x
If I got this treatment, I'd be a patient and calm cat too!

Another reason why I love British Shorthairs. They are the most chill cats ever!
Thank you for sharing this! What a lovely, cute video :) This kitty is very lucky to have such a loving caretaker. I can feel the love!

What a pretty, very docile kitty.
British blues are so good natured. I could never do that with my tabby
That's the most patient cat I've ever seen!
This makes me feel so relaxed! bless him for sitting there and not caring :)
Not caring? Catty seems to be annoyed a lot hehe. And bored really bored, just like: My Refrigerator Opener talks a lot of BS today into this little Thing he calls "camera". I wonder when she will be done with this...
I am surprised to see such a calm reaction. it's a torture for my British cat to have a bath. She was going mad trying to escape by all means.

Rubbish!
I looked it up, many animal sites said similar things to what I wrote. I also found some books that said it too.
Cats only need bathing if they are ill or covered in something they cannot remove. Bathing is terribly traumatic & unnecessary for a cat *****
You don't have to bathe your cat every week just every few weeks, it doesn't have to be a long bath just a quick one is good for the cat and, no, it isn't a 'traumatic experience' some cats do love water.
