The Hunchback of Notre Dame - Someday (Original, Heidi Mollenhauer version) - Lyrics

- This song was supposed to be in the movie, instead of "God Help the Outcasts", sang by Esmeralda. I can't choose which song is the best... They're both absolutely awesome 💕
I don't own this video, I have just put lyrics on it, so that you can realize how powerful the meaning of the song is.
“Someday” walked so “God Help the Outcasts” COULD RUNN
You prolly dont care but if you are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all of the latest series on InstaFlixxer. I've been watching with my gf for the last couple of weeks =)
@Kannon Shane yup, been watching on instaflixxer for since november myself =)
I like Someday as a song better, but God Help the Outcasts fits the moment better.
Thank god that this song made it into the musical version!
musical version? is it the live action? i can'T find it on imdb.
@@atomisten its the papermill playhouse version.
Even these Storyboards are so striking. Just these are enough to bring a tear to my eye.
If she sings this in the live action version they’re doing I’m gonna flood the cinema with tears.
Lmao same ❤️
The irony would be hilarious. Disney undervalues their workers and thrives on greed.
I just heard they just cancelled the live action remake of this.
@@TheJFish94 How come?
@@TheJFish94they were never making one. All those posters and teaser images were fanmade
I am so glad they added this song into the stage musical version. This song gives me goose bumps
Many countries play BOTH "Someday" and "God Help the Outcasts" in the end credits.
In the musical, Esmeralda sings this song the night before being burned, and it is that much more powerful.
considering the fact that this song was placed in a movie around the XV century I think we can say that until now nothing's really changed much, nowadays more than 500 years later we still have problems with greed and need. And with all the crap the song sounds so real that could be sung in the XXI century.
I wish they could have included this song in the movie somewhere! It is so beautiful! Esmeralda may not be an official Disney Princess, but she is in my book! She has the qualities and is a great role model to people everywhere!
It ends up in the musical after she gets arrested. She's granted one last night with Phoebus to think about Frollo's conditions, and they duet this song because they've both resigned themselves to d_e with their head held high.
I like this song it reminds me of when I was growing up that people thought I was not going to thrive academically not go to college not be aloud to live on my own at all and have little or no control of my life. I am grateful that I proved a lot of things wrong, and it is unfortunate that my road to becoming independent was filled with doubt, being so underestimated and verbal abuse. Also, I am being controlled by doing things that i can or not being allowed to do. I am now living on my own. I have an actual job. I am on the autism spectrum
I am so sad that you had to live through all of this... But glad that you made it and are now living better! I wish you only the best and all the happiness for the rest of your life 🙏💖
Okay. Okay. Now I demand this sequence get animated.
They should like they did if I never knew you for Pocahontas. And have two versions one with the original god help the outcast and a different version with this back in the movie.
I felt like this song would've served better in a different part of the movie. God Help the outcasts makes sense given the gravity of Esmerelda's situation being hunted by Frollo, and looking for answers within the church. That song solidifies her awareness for the circumstances beyond her own, more specifically her people. It's much better development for a character that seeks to put others' safety above her own.
Agreed. Perhaps an extra scene between the Court of Miracles and the Execution? Esmerelda locked within the Palace of Justice looking out and able to see Notre Dame she begins to offer up this last prayer. Cutting between instances of her people being locked up, Phoebus being rough handled by his former subordinates, Quasimodo being chained up in the bell tower with the Arch- Deacon looking on helpless as the soldiers bind the hunchback and prepare the stake.

That is pretty much what the stage musical does. Esmeralda and Phoebes are in prison awaiting their execution and they start singing this song.
I am aware@@timonstanzel. I have seen the stage production, loved it.

she has such a beautiful voice. unfortunately she hasn t done more.
Thankfully they prefer "God Help the Outcasts" over this version. I like this version of "Someday", but somehow "God Help the Outcasts" is more touching.
This song totally deserves to have 0 dislikes, and it makes sense, who would hate this?
Beautiful music I truly loved and think I wish if 'Someday' or 'God Help The Outcast' should have earn a Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.
"Someday" Esmeralda's anthem of hope!
I've listened to the version sung by the R&B group All-4-One but this is my first time hearing this version. It's heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time.
Imagine the heartbreaking yet beautiful tone of this song, except it is the tone of the entire musical. That is the stage version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
R.I.P. David Ogden Stiers and Tony Jay The Archdeacon and Judge Frollo are now in Heaven 😢😢😭😭😢🌹🌹
wow those sketches look dope, i would watch the full movie in that style!
So beautiful, and I love this song so much (so glad that Someday made the musical and that the All 4 One version made the soundtrack). However - I think God Help the Outcasts fit the moment better and the verses showing about Christ being an outcast and the more self absorbed prayers of the followers were very important to the story -
“I ask for wealth, I ask for fame, I ask for glory to shine on my name…” (words of people of means)
Vs Esmeralda - “I ask for nothing, I can get by, for there are so many less lucky than I”
This isn't bad, but I am really, *really* happy we got "God Help the Outcasts" instead.
I like the way Esmeralda looks in this too, a little more rough around the edges. In the film, she looks a bit too princessy and perfect to be a gypsy.
This version of Someday is better than the end credits imo.
I like this version
Earlier version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Listening to this song now....
I'm so sorry, Esmerelda 😔
I found a snippet of this scene made by a talented artist, Elena Velasco:

The movie needs to have both songs featured. They’ll be really dumb if they don’t. Idk which version because I love the duet version for its intimacy and it’s a great character moment for Esmeralda, but I LOVE how loud the German version gets. It’s chill inducing every time.
I prefer this version. Thank you for uploading. 💕
I love "Someday" as a song, and the lyrics in this version. We would've definitely missed out had it not made the soundtrack (with All-4-One singing it, too). But "God Help the Outcasts" encompassed Esmeralda's complex relationship with The Church as she's literally singing in one, and talking to God himself. Trying to figure out the hypocrisy of Church leaders (excluding the Archbishop's character), and the parishioners' judgemental actions (or inaction) towards others *not* like them, vs the life and teachings of Christ they claim to follow is all in the subtext of the song. Something still relevant to this day, no matter the denomination. Pointing out that Christ was also an outcast has a deeper emotional impact vital to the story when all three main protagonists are outcasts. Phoebus becomes one eventually -- for having a forbidden love, and refusing to follow orders to commit genocide. The lyrics of "God Help the Outcasts" make Esmeralda a much more interesting character with much more depth than if she had sung "Someday" in that particular moment.
Disney used this song as a finale song for HarmonioUS at EPCOT.
I only knew the versions by Eternal and the musical. This is absolutely stunning!! Love it. Thanks for uploading
Why in gods name did this song get replaced?! “God Help the Outcasts” didn’t hit this hard at the soul
The best comparison I can think of with this song is Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come". Its themes are similar in that they talk about struggle for the unfortunate and how if we can all learn to treat each other with respect, that someday the world will be better off. Really outstanding
This is my favourite deleted Disney song (along with If I never knew you). I wish they could animate a scene where Esmeralda sings this the night before her execution...where it is now placed in the stage show for the 30th Anniversary. I think God Help The Outcasts was the right choice for this moment...but both songs are absolutely beautiful.
Same. Personally I prefer God Help the Outcasts, but I’m really disappointed this song wasn’t in the movie. Like come on, they put A Guy Like You in the movie instead??
And yes! If I Never Knew You is actually my favorite Disney love song aside I See the Light. It’s really disappointing that one wasn’t in Pocahontas, considering how many times it’s used as an instrumental in the movie. I truly believe if the song stayed, more people wouldn’t be so harsh on Pocahontas as a historical fiction movie nowadays (especially when Anastasia and Balto don’t get nearly as much hate or criticism)
@kristinahuchison2511 I echo your thoughts on Pocahontas. I am all for historical accuracy when appropriate (100%)....but the real Pocahontas's life was quite difficult, and if the sources are correct, some of what happened to her was terrible... not suitable for a Disney movie. I don't think anyone who worked on it set out to offend anyone they just took inspiration from someone who lived and added some Disney magic. It's a beautiful movie if you take it for what it js. Likewise, the real Pocahontas is a beautiful person to research. She's one of my favourite historical figures and Disney Princess 🍂🍁
Actually this song does exist in the Hunchback musical. The night before her execution, her and Phoebus are granted some time together in a cell. There, they sing Someday. It’s a beautiful duet and parts of this song are echoed in the finale.
@strawberrydragon4183 Yes, if you reread my comment, I said that Someday now features in the stage show. 🙂
@@kaylovesdisney4582 oh okay. Sorry I missed that
If the film's ending stayed closer to the book's, a slightly reworked version of this could have been Esmeralda's last song before being hanged.
I think they do this with the broadway musical.. Esmeralda dies but she sings this right before the end with Phoebus..and it replays in the finale with the choir. The movie and musical are both musically powerful. You called it on the song placement haha
So beautiful 🥹
Things from the stage version that HAVE to make it into the live action version:
- THIS SONG (but in another part of the film, so we can still get "God Help the Outcasts"!!!
- Making Quasimodo deaf! This is actually from the book, and is shown brilliantly in the stage show!
- Ciara Reneé as Esmeralda. Absolutely perfect casting!
- "Top of the World" duet between Quasimodo and Esmeralda!
- Phoebus's PTSD backstory, just come from the trenches. Gives him more depth.
- "Esmeralda" song. Goosebump worthy piece with choir and whole cast!!
- "MADE OF STONE", a powerhouse solo from Quasimodo!! One of the best songs in the show!!
Seriously, there are so many incredible moments in both versions, if they combined them, Disney may just have their best movie of all time!!!
This. This is what I hope for❤
Completely agreed!
I feel like singing this song when I’m having a bad day
Good song but God Help the Outcasts is the better choice.
This one is better. I really don't understand the decision, because "Someday," more than any of the other songs, captures the feeling you get when reading "Notre Dame de Paris." Yes, that's Hugo's original title, and it's not really a story about a hunchback, it's a story about a cathedral that stands through centuries of dark history, watching the hopes of each generation rise but ultimately be extinguished by oppression and dysfunction. Hugo wrote it in 1831, after the Renaissance and in the midst of the Enlightenment, which had in some measure transformed Western culture in the manner Esmerelda longs for in these lyrics.
1831 is after the enlightment, imo, the important thing is that it's a year after a new French revolution which replaced one French monarchy by an other.
I love both someday and God help the outcasts, but I would like a production version of this song its so beautiful and sad
The off-Broadway recording is quite good.
R.I.P. David Ogden Stiers and Tony Jay The Archdeacon and Judge Frollo are now in Heaven 😢😭😭😭😢😭
Christy Carlson Romano should play Esmeralda. She would nail this song.
This and God And Help The Outcasts made me cry like a bitch.
Imagine if there was no gargoyle song and she sang this in the dungeon
Wasn't there supposed to be a love song between her and Phoebus? I wish that one was in the movie. Anyways thank you for uploading this. I never would have found it without this channel.
In the musical "someday" is sung by both her and Phoebus before they are likely to be executed thus making it more heartbreaking
"In a place of miracles" was a sort of love song between Esmeralda and Phoebus, but is one of the deleted songs. The song with its storyboard is uploaded here on YT though :)
@@airachica And lets not forget the musical version is up in its entirety!
@@airachicaPhoebus and Esmerelda don’t have a love song. In the musical version this song is a duet between them. Pretty sure Phoebus and Esmerelda are one of the few couples that don’t have a love song, mainly because their romance isn’t the focus of the movie.
@@kristinahuchison2511 It said "sort of" a love song. You could argue "In a place of miracles" has slightly romantic vibes. They definitely don't have a "true" love song though of course :) Especially since "In a place of miracles" includes both Quasimodo and Clopin singing as well xD
“You raise your voice and it’s enough to lift the human spirit. Set the song inside you soaring, and the whole wide world will hear it.”

An incredibly powerful and touching performance without going "over the top" in any way. And beautiful drawings too. The version in the movie credits is good too, but more rhythmically rigid (for better *and* worse) and definitely not as touching as this.
