    Eric, thank you for showing the process so well. Your subscribers are very lucky to have your knowledge on display. You take tricky molds and parts and break down the process so that viewers can understand and follow. The parts turned out great. 🙌😎

      Thanks, and thanks for making some great products. I love how thin the w85DL clear resin is and the working time is fantastic.

      @@EricStrebel you are taking advantage of that long working time, and the magic is how quickly it will cure and demold with mild heat (100F/38C) applied. That was all by design with these WC-85D products.

    Great video! I´m not sure I understand the key seal. Why do you have it as a separate TPU part instead of just having the ring as a feature on the grey part you printed?

    I always get impressed by the quality of your work. Have you made any transluscent part (like a headlight, for example) that do not get yellowish and cloudy with time, because UV light? Cheers from Brazil

    • @EricStrebel

      But quality resin that is UV stable, that should keep them from yellowing

    Nice Video, I‘m always fascinated of the split-Mole-technique.
    I wonder, as you said the material is pretty soft, is it necessary to put reinforcement into one of the halves at a given distance that will be bridged by one of the halves? I could imagine, that if the material is to soft it will sag in the middle and the part could end up too thin.
    I never worked with silicone, this is just a feeling I get when I see how soft and flexible the silicone mould halves can be handled.

    What would recomend for a cap material that was originally a PPE/PO material which has a little flexability to it. The flex is to allow the cap location fingers to flex as the lock into the wheel.

      Use a slight softer urethane, perhaps a shore 60D

    Can I ask if there's any real difference between a pressure tank for paint and a regular pressure tank for casting. From their stats they both seem to hold around 5 bar pressure, but the difference in price is ridiculous.

    • @EricStrebel
      @EricStrebel  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The pressure tank that I use is a converted paint pressure pot.

    Hi,
    Just found your channel. I have a 1988 Toyota fj62 Land cruiser. The center dash bezel is cracked and brittle. What type of resin would be best to use to cast new one? have never tried molding anything before ....

    I saw the video description and legitimately thought you were making hubs that were 56 feet in diameter.
    Then I realized you meant the year 1956, or ‘56.

    Hi Eric, nice video as usual. I'm in the process of building a pressure tank, heavily influenced by your work. I can see that your reworked hinge starts to collapse. Is that a design issue or something else?

    Hello Eric!
    Do you have a casting resin you could recommend to me, as a beginning hobbyist, for creating some headlight lenses?
    Something that would be UV stable, decently durable, and stay clear after time?
    They will be attached to some custom 3d printed headlight housings , which will house some LED projectors and finally mount up to a custom fiberglass and carbon fiber front end i am crafting.
    Thanks for any tips!

    trimming the soft materials with xacto is much easier when the mold is laying flat on the surface (in this case its side) and you guide the cut with hand stabilized by cutting mat. Cutting things in thin air rarely gives nice effects.

    • @EricStrebel
      @EricStrebel  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes unfortunately one side of the mold the silicone is just way too soft.

    You can also make this mold with just a single silicone mold. This would save you at least two thirds of your working time. The result will be just as better and even more beautiful. Unfortunately, for professional reasons, I'm not allowed to reveal how this works!

    • @EricStrebel
      @EricStrebel  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Professional reasons, lol. Please....get real. Total bullshit of course. You might save some time, but you won't get a consistent quality split line. Plus I am replicating a manufacturing process to help me understand that and to help preserve old school techniques.
