asian styling has always been esthetically pleasing and calming. I don't think it is cultural appropriation, but rather cultural appreciation. I am inspired by my own eclectic pan-asian/fusion home decor. I mix Japanese, Chinese, indian, and Thai into a eye pleasing color pallet of cinnabar, teal, and yellow all to act as an anchor for a very large 3 piece over the couch painting. to me, you can stay traditional or go for fusion. to each their own, and that's what also makes it fun. thanks for more ideas from this video. cheers.

As a person that is half japanese, and knows many japanese people both living in Japan and in Europe, I just want to mention how bizarre the whole cultural appropriation thing is. Why on earth would anyone from a different ethnic background be offended by someone else decorating their home in that style?? As long as they didn’t go to YOUR home and steal the stuff, what is the problem? It seems like some people just need things to get mad about and try to dictate what other people can and can’t do. The Japanese people I know are only happy and proud when people with other ethniticies dress, garden, cook or decorate in japanese style. We know full well that anyone racist against Asians would NEVER do that. The sensitivity surrounding cultural appropriation seem to be a very American concept. And I can’t speak for japanese people in the States who might be influenced by the outrage. But I think that for many looking on from the outside, it really seems odd.

I'm part Chinese and also am bewildered by the western notion of Cultural Appropriation and honestly how stupid it is. My children are also mixed raced and look more western than myself, my youngest is blue eyed, porcelain skin, brown hair and always wears his Red Brocade Chinese jacket for Chinese New Year when we eat out. Have had no problems so far !!!!

I liked the perspectives you shared in this video. Interestingly, when i went to Turkey, they had the largest amount of Chinese pottery, outside of China. This was due to trade during the Ottoman empire. I think it becomes appropriation when there is oppression and an attitude that discredits the skill required to create the crafts.

I’m sure the artists who created these works of art would not say no anyone that wanted to purchase it.

I've always loved vintage Asian interiors. I can't explain why, but I've always been drawn to it. I've never been to Japan or China. I hate when people get political about it. I really dislike the sometime cheap cheesy run of the mill type of this decor. But please, I only see it as complimentary to those countries.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and it is not cultural appropriationn IF the imitator acknowledges what they are doing is NOT their idea and gives CREDIT to the culture that inspired them. For example, Bo Derek's braids were cultural appropriation because it was never acknowledged that they were a duplication of Africa headdress. Elvis Presley got his sound and moves from visiting black clubs. Presley would nevertheless publicly cite his debt to African American music, pointing to artists such as B. B. King, Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, Ivory Joe Hunter, and Fats Domino. His style was NOT cultural appropriation because he acknowledged the cultural source of his sound.

cultural appropriation. What does that even mean??!! Some one who wants to decorate their home using asian furniture, art work or accents should find it to be a compliment to Asian culture that their style is admired. I am not asian but lived in Hong Kong for 30 years and traveled around most of SE Asia and Japan. Now I have moved to Europe and brought back all my artwork, statues vases and some furniture I collected over the years that represent, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Bali and Thailand. I also have a fabulous Cambodian Buddha. All my memories of the wonderful time I had in Asia. I get so many compliments on how different my home looks to most homes in Greece. I won't change it for no 0ne and frankly I don't care who is offended - these are my memories I earned during my time there. People need to stop taking offence to every little thing. it's so tiring!
