  • If I'm going to have so little room for indoor storage, I will at least have net wrap to protect the bales.

I hope you really know what a lucky young man you are living this kind of life. You don't need me to tell you that though, as we can all hear it in the excitement in your voice and you always seem eager to get in there and fix it and get right to work those long hours. You cant do that kind of stuff if you don't love it. I am quite jealous to be honest. As a 1st gen farmer I've fought tooth and nail for over 20 years to get any kind of farming operation going in these rocky little hills and valleys that grow houses faster than anything else. I haven't got that many more good physical years left so I've been going all out lately and just about begging land, equipment, sheds, barns, and cows. To no avail so far but there's always tomorrow.

@@boehmfarm4276 Thanks for the kind words. It's odd these people, they build in healthy farm fields and then pay some lawncare contractor to come in and mow, vacuum, fertilize, set up sprinkler systems, and everything to keep it looking like a golf course, and only spend 2 weeks out of the year at this house while the rest of the time is spent in NYC or NJ. Sometimes I wish we could build a wall not by Mexico, but along I87 and 90 (the major interstates that get these people into our land)

We had an 848 for years. We ran 35 to 40 psi in the bags. It will pack a good tight bale and not wear out the chains too fast if you run the pressure there. I was thinking it made a 4x5 also. I run a 654 NH now. If you ever go to a belt baler, you'll never go back. The belts will bale anything the chains will, twice as fast.

@@boehmfarm4276 I'm in northeast Alabama. Our terrain looks a lot like yours. A big hay patch is 20 acres. Most of mine are 5 to 10 acres. I bale with a 766 IH. In heavy hay, maybe 4th. I was baling some late Bahia grass yesterday in 6th. The belts are nice, but the chain baler is a great baler too. I've never seen one with net. I look forward to your videos of it working. I did see one with a wide pickup, and I thought that was uncommon. Hope you have the best of luck. I'll dig around and see if I can find an old owners manual on the 848. I used to have one, but no promises. I'll mail it to you if I can find it.

I have an old Ford new holland book of the era that mentions that these balers had net wrap. That's the only way I know that the pre Rollabelt balers had the option. There are many people on here who know abot net wrap through experience, I'm not one of them, some day I want one!

Yeah, good luck putting 800 psi in those bags. New at about 200 they’ll explode. Weathered, I’d be scared to try 100. 60 makes a bale tight enough it’ll tip when you try to put the spike in it. Lower than 45 or so and the chains will start banging and clanging. 50-55 is a good solid starting point.
