But you forget the fact that he suffers from several mental disorders, he is not a normal guy....yes he is very handsome and young etc...but he is mentally unhealthy...he lives the trauma of his missing mother...this is the story of his life. ...and he's looking for her obsessively... it's not by chance that he fell in love with an older woman... she reminds him of his mother.... I'm not saying that every relationship with an age gap is about missing a parent of course...but in his case he's looking for a mother figure to protect her, cause he didn't do that with his mom... And by his relationship with Claire he's trying to chang the The story of the trauma in his head...
Eventually he's doning just the opposite,he is hurting her just the way his father did to his mother . he never learned to behave differently(from his father)and never dealt with his trauma, so he is left with his wounds of a bad example of behavior, and also the illusion that he can bring his mother back to his life and give her a better life than she had with his father.
When his triggers are pulled he actually reveals that...
That's the whole thing with psychopaths... they seem very, very normal and just ordinary people, but their true nature comes out eventually.
