- Ep.105 The crowds in Positano can be overwhelming, but we knew the views would be gorgeous. We avoided some of tourist congestion by taking an early morning hike along the Path of the Gods and then a private sunset cruise to see some hidden gems along the coast. Both live up to the hype for absolutely stunning scenery. If you’re looking for an itinerary for the perfect day on the Amalfi Coast, this is it!

Love, love, love Positano. We’ve been twice and truly love the Amalfi Coast! The stairs is another story!!!! 🥵 I told my husband that I’d gladly live there - the beauty took my breath away the first time. Have your daughter search out Nicki Positano - she’s a British woman living in Positano for over 25 years and is married to Carlo a native. They have a great channel. Elizabeth, the owner of Blue Star is a friend of theirs and is featured on many of their videos. Nicki and Carlo (and their dogs) walk the Path of the Gods many times and makes me cringe!!😬 Obviously I commend you three because I couldn’t bring myself to do it!! Great video of one of my favorite places on earth!!!
It is a beautiful place, but we agree with the problem with the stairs. I guess you get used to it, and it will keep you in shape! I just took a look at Nicki Positano and forwarded her info to our daughter. It's fabulous that she made the shift at only 24 years old. Incredible and admirable! What a small world regarding Blue Star! We really got excellent service, and I'm not surprised in this small town that everyone knows everyone! We didn't do the Path of the Gods extension, and I'm glad about it. Ending in Nocelle was perfect for us and gave us time to enjoy the rest of Positano. We explored over two days, but we could have used even more time. We love knowing that it's one of your favorite places and so glad we could experience it, too! We have to thank our daughter because it was the top place in Italy she wanted to visit! Thank you so much, Maria, for watching and sharing your stories with us! We love it! -Judy

It really was, Rebecca! There were elements that were a hassle and it's an expensive area overall, but Positano was very, very beautiful. You will get a workout in when you visit, though! We spaced our time over two days, but one would have been the perfect day. Two days was wonderful if we had known what to expect in advance and could have planned a bit better regarding the buses, etc. Thanks for watching. As I commented before to your previous post: we really love the Amalfi Coast. Positano is our base of operations. This last trip--we missed you by six days-was late May and was the typical Amalfi Coast experience-crowds, great food, chaos, meeting very nice Italians, meeting very nice tourists from all over the world, and breathing in a different culture.
We stayed in the “suburbs” of Positano for $110 per night, light breakfast included. The first day we got in Positano we did the 1,700+ steps down. My wife was ok. I, on the other hand was extremely sore for the next four days. We took the Mini Bus from Hell back up. I would say the stairs are much less dangerous than the actual Path of the Gods. Next year I’m going to walk up the stairs.
You missed out on the archaeological dig under the church. The villa that was in the location of what is now Positano was destroyed when Pompeii and Herculaneum were destroyed. The villa’s destruction was much like Herculaneum’s.
Your daughter is one of the lucky ones who sees Positano and the surrounding area as a vibrant cultural experience. Good for her.
Hi George, such a bummer to hear that we missed you by such a short amount of time! One of the drawbacks for us was that Positano is a much more expensive place than some other parts of Italy, not only for accommodations, but also for eating and drinking. We don't drink very often, but Italy definitely lends itself to aperitivi! We really love culture and history, so I'm very bummed to know that we missed the archeological dig under the church. Our daughter was in charge of planning for most of our trip, and she was more focused on the beach activities! It's interesting to hear about the stairs being easier than the actual Path of the Gods. Brava to your wife! But if you're able to make the uphill of 1700+ stairs, then a HUGE congrats to you as well. That is out of our current physical ability. One of our commenters mentioned that you have very little need of a gym if you live on the Amalfi Coast, and I can completely believe it! -Judy
Love this! Looks like you had some great weather. This area can have a bit of mist or fog, which isn't a big deal, until you take a look at your pictures! I always look at the Amalfi Coast as being part of the plethora of amazing things to do in this part of Italy. Some of those things being: Naples, Pompeii, Capri, Amalfi Coast, Paestum, and many other popular and unknown destinations. Keep on bring the great videos, and I hope you continue to enjoy your adventure!!
We had a few rainy days, including when we were in Cinque Terre, but it was great that the Amalfi Coast weather was beautiful. We have an episode next week from Ravello and then a combined episode from Capri/Amalfi before moving onto more inland parts of Italy. We've been in Naples and Pompeii, but we sacrificed a day in Naples with our daughter to give us time in Ravello. The trip with our daughter was absolutely fabulous!

Beautifully filmed video & great information. We have not been to Positano. We stayed in Sorrento instead. We went in early May. It was cooler & less crowded but we did have more rain. Loved the Amalfi Coast but we also think once was enough. Thank you!!

I think the area overall is challenging to navigate and expensive, but we liked that there was more to do in Ravello. We were surprised that we enjoyed Verona so much after seeing so much more of Italy. We had been leaning towards Torino after visiting it, but we need to compare them side by side. We had hoped to visit with Torino with our daughter, but it was too far out of the way for this trip. But she loved Verona as much as we did! But the search continues! Unfortunately, our daughter wasn't comfortable being on camera for the most part, but we'd love it if she ends up in Italy at some point, too! -Judy

We thought that Positano was one of our favorite stops on the Amalfi Coast, probably tied with Ravello, which we absolutely loved. Claudio, you are absolutely correct! There is probably nothing that will get you in shape faster than climbing stairs! When we were still in San Francisco, I had a trainer that would regularly meet up with us at Alta Plaza Park, which had 100 stairs to get to the park. Our entire workout would be climbing up and down those stairs. At the beginning, we'd all feel like "Rocky," but they nearly killed us by the end of it all. Definitely learned I wasn't as fit as I thought, but those stairs got me there! -Judy
The restaurant and food looked excellent. Tiramisumy is favorite dessert. It's so hard to find one made well here in the States 😪

It really was such a fun restaurant, and although it has somewhat of an exclusive feel to it because you have to arrive by boat, the vibe was casual. It was a perfect mix, and we loved seeing our fellow diners enjoying themselves so much! I've made my own tiramisu on occasion, because you are right. It is hard to get a good one in the US. Venice isn't my favorite city in Italy, but one restaurant we visited in 2022 called La Bitta sticks in my memory specifically for its fabulous tiramisu! Thanks for watching! -Judy
We loved Positano. It really was a beautiful place. The hike was hard, but it was also rewarding. Seeing the billy goats added a fun surprise, as did the donkeys when we arrived in Nocelle. We tried to rush ahead of them and then realized they would be going up the same path as us, which involved many steps. We had to let them pass even though they were stinky because we knew we couldn't possibly climb the stairs as quickly as they did! Thanks for watching, Enrique! -Judy
