මීට වඩා මේ නිලධාරීන්ට පහසුකම් දුන්න නම් දෙපැත්තටම යහපතක් වෙනවා.(සමහර රටවල drone වගේ ඒවා යොදාගන්නව වනජීවී මෙහෙයුම් වලට)අවම පහසුකම් යටතේ උනත් මේ නිලධාරීන් කරන සේවය අගය කලයුතුයි.

This officer said exactly what is happening at the Wildlife Department: They were sent to the field with zero knowledge and experience. No wonder why so many officers die and also make the elephant-human conflict worse. These officers think when they have a weapon, they can do anything. What must be understood is you can't apply ad hoc methods when you are dealing with wildlife. Period.
The officers involved in this situation should have acted professionally and NOT assuming things:
1. As he described it, if the elephants in the coconut patch were resting because of the hot weather at noon time, they too should have waited before jumping into action.
2. Must have a proper communication system (a two-way radio - cheaper than a gun) to communicate with the police to make sure that the main road was blocked for traffic (irrespective of festive season) before sending elephants from their resting place and making them confused and angry.
3. Exercise patience when dealing with wildlife. By the look of it, that is what is missing here. Those villages are impatient and contact their political figures seeking quick fixes. At the same time, these officers with lack of experience and knowledge, jump into action with a gun.
