Hey I just got shf full power broly for Christmas and the arm was really squeaky and at 7:54 it broke
Holy moly, 24 minutes?! This could go either way lmao
This is hands down my favorite look for Goku. I like the puffy muscles, made him look like an absolute juggernaut. Seeing Goku belt out lines like "Now DIEEEEEEE!!!!" was eerie, after seeing how merciful and jocular Goku always was. Great to see that this figure is mostly solid.

This is the way goku looks in his battle with frieza on namek. Both goku and frieza were at max muscle size. Even training during the cell games their muscles got huge. But they realized muscle size was a down grade because of loss of speed. So they focused on power over strength and slimmed down considerably.
The hair reminds me of the modern artstyle. It looks like the Resurrection of F Special version.
It also could be from the kaioken earlier that got him really big and then on top of that he got a huge boost in power and ki being super Saiyan

I’ve been looking forward to this figure since it was revealed, but I was worried after getting the Guts figure. I’m relieved that this one is actually a solid release, I can usually live with minor issues but if it’s something that ruins the aesthetic then I’m not happy. This is probably my favorite look for Goku, this is the version that I first saw when getting into DBZ as a kid and I cannot wait for mine
Goku is my absolute favourite anime character, and so this figure is a must-buy for me, personally. The objective criticisms are valid (namely the wide hips and the abs plastic tank top chest), but those animadversions are not enough to detract from buying this figure for myself. I bloody love the figure!

the torso thing where its made out of the same pvc as the rest and it just sleeved onto the skeleton is something i really hope ban dai do,its just gonna look much better and even putting the color matching aside it will put an end to the seem along the side of the torsos which on figurats (less lately but still) a lot of the times feel like its just gonna split apart , it would help the asthetics way more and will make the figures themselves more durible and feel more robust
Absolutely top notch anatomical and sculpt knowledge, honestly haven't seen any other reviewer on your level on YT rn with your level of insight on the matter. Looking at Awakening and UI, they never made the hips like that, so that's a pretty curious decision to me on their part.
Also, I know you said that this figure is super different compared to Awakening, but I wonder if the parts are swappable. Thinking that combining them would make a hell of a Super Saiyan Goku for the ultimate Namek showdown recreation.

Was waiting for ur review. I had been wanting to get the awakening one for a long time but could never get a hold it but finally was able to get this guy. Figure is pretty awesome imo but wish he had a little more neck and the faces on mine kinda detach once the head is bent forward, might not be common issue but still regardless of all this, it was really good surprise after that horrendous Trunks 😖😖 also was kinda bummed about the discoloration on the chest when I saw pictures online but it's not that noticeable in hand

This is the only Sh. Figuarts DBZ FIGURE I have ordered.
I ordered this one as it’s from my favourite point in the entire series.
The hair I think is the best way they have done for a Super Saiyan.
The wide hips, I hadn’t noticed but since it has been pointed out, it makes sense as to why the proportions looked off.
Looking forward to when mine is delivered.

Love this figure. I 100% agree about the chest piece. And I honestly think it depends on the batch. My first figure I got with the early overseas release had a very light chest piece. Ive heard that the upcoming/current us release has already been tweaked.

This is the same as how people claim the Q1 2924 re-release of Figuarts “3.0” Future Trunks will have fixed all QC issues. Do people understand its cost for companies to do this on a large scale? If Bandai cares about their reputation, they might do it, but fat chance. After all, they make too much money doing what they do, because most reviewers (let alone collectors) don’t call them out like Anthony.
i got mine from a japanese retailer and it seems fine in hand, though definitely does show up on the camera depending how light hits it. i guess it varies with each individual figure.

Very nice review! The one thing I wish this figure had is shading on the skin but other than that, really love the look of this release.

Great review & commentary as always.This Goku is definitely shorter, height wise, than his other variants by SHF and I've noticed alot of collectors/ customizers online have actually made some custom, longer, neck pegs using 3D resin printers, which actually appear better overall when looking at a side-by-side, before/after shot. So when my beefy boy finally arrives, I'm thinking my next move will be the neck upgrade, and then I'll look into the chest upgrade pieces, which can stretch him upwards a tad as well.

I was aware of the chest thingy but it doesn't really bother me at all.
I can definitely ignore most of its problems since it looks like a way better release than Guts... That figure was awful though, so anything would look way better tbh.

I had been looking forward to this figure since it was announced and now that I got it I absolutely love it and it's definitely my favoriteGoku figure. Having said that though all the critiques you pointed out are valid, there's no denying that. I think some people don't realize that you can still enjoy something even if it's not 100% perfect with zero flaws. Thanks as always for your honest and non biased reviews.

Probably one of the best sh figuart Dragonball figures I own, I just got back into collecting these guys and I am very glad to have it before the price goes up on it
The few criticisms you made I think are nice but a bit picky
I think when it comes to the butterfly joints, because he has a “bulky” build I personally don’t expect him to put his arms all the way across his chest when fully extended. You can get a “cross arm” poise if you adjust it accordingly, but if you’ve ever seen buff body builder try and fold their arms…well.. it’s very interesting to see lol
Also the hair color is the same as the promo pics on the package, the lighting they used blows out the shading, HOWEVER I will say the largest pic and a couple others on the back does make it seem like there is no shading on the front hair piece.
Paint-apps wise, I think the blank PVC plastic and little to no shading is what they’ve done for the last 3 years outside of a few select figures. I think it works cause if you really want shading on his skin then..well you’ll have to do it yourself or add those blood, bruising mark w/ more detail like how Gunpla kits work. Not saying it’s a cop out for them but if that transparent yellow paint ont he shoes is any indication…I just don’t trust Tamashi yet to really nail detailed paint-apps like that any time soon. Even tho I’m sure they could do it. Would probably drive the price up, which most already feel they have been doing for many releases outside of the basic ones.
Outside of that, this review was very nice and informative, with a bit of that Anthony-touch I enjoy. For me this figure is a solid 8.5/10

Wish it came with an angry Kamehameha effect(the one he killed Frieza with) but that also would drive price up and prob end up being a Bandai Premium like full power Frieza.

God i love the hair, fluffy ssj hair is his best ssj look and design should have forever stayed thay way
I prefer the puffy muscles look, especially for ssj and Kaioken in early DBZ or characters like Max Power Master Roshi, Demon King Piccolo, and Major Metallitron in Dragon Ball.

I too have that issue with the belt not connected to that lip thing. Very hard to make it stay too cause the hip is soft pvc, looks bad while posing around. Also the toe joint on mine are so loose☹️
Would have been nice to have that iconic disappointed face that he made at Frieza just before leaving.
This is an amazing figure because it works for the Frieza fight, the cooler movie fight, and the super android 13 movie. Hope he comes next

Great review only thing is the butterfly joints even tho they are recessed that main part of the shoulder is almost a free floating piece and the joint its attached to actually does pull out a substantial amount giving them alittle more range than you showed. idk if that make sense if not sorry. I thought it was pretty cool that that the the blue wristband sections are free floating so they can swivel to compensate for those dynamic wrist movements. And the waste part is free floating on minre not glued i thought it was odd the clear plastic guard that they comes on almost all there figures new was actually tucked under the belt section and the waist rather than under the chest and abs split.
Idk who's saying he's not supposed to be this bulky. Towards the end of the fight, after Frieza throws the death ball into the planet. Goku is drawn and animated with just as bulky muscles as Full Power Final Form Frieza. The hair looks fine, but I do agree it looks a bit better on the Awakening SS Goku figure cause of it being a bit wider at the bottom as Anthony says.
That's why i said his muscles are fine. It's the weird fat hips that make him look wrong

I think his neck is a bit too short. Also, i think the 2.0 hips are better than these new ones.

I am loving how buff they made him in this. I'm really hoping that they make a more buff Vegeta next. My main problem with all of the Vegeta figures is that he looks absolutely tiny, which is weird because in a lot of Dragon Ball Z he's the more chunky of the two despite being smaller he's like a little Wolverine

I know for a fact the sculpter of this figure has said he spent a lot of time and gave his all in making this figure.
What does that matter though? The problems are still there. Having a mostly great sculpt doesn't change the incorrect color of the chest or the jumbo wide hips.
QC problems aren't his fault, have a look at the hips of the Full Power Frieza that's up for order - the two figures are meant to go together.

Would it be possible to put the upper body on the waist/hips of the Saiyan Raised on Earth Goku (or any other 2.0 equivalent) and swap the legs onto that figure as well so it doesn't have the butt cheek sculpt limiting it?

I’m pretty sure this goku also just has short legs, I tried to line him up with some other shf dragon ball figures and they’re around the size of the 3.0 trunks

Looks good overall but there are a few things they have wrong that are making it look a little weird.
3:47 well that’s very true. But then again Goku is not a tall person in canon. He’s only around 5’9

That chest piece is odd. The one i have is identical color, but that's probably just the lighting I have. I think some of them are different colors from the factory though, I've seen some that are way off, but others are the same color
That difference is the lighting for sure. There's not going to be any significant factory variance within a single production run.
Ok- I’ve seen/heard soooo many reviewers mention the Vietnam & Chinese factory.
TLDR: quality diff btwn China & Vietnam MFg. is a myth. The majority of a SHF figure is manufactured in China using cheap labor, finished in Vietnam to skirt tarrifs on Chinese imports, then exported.
Any “quality discrepancy” between The Vietnam factory vs Chinese factory is coincidental. Like most other manufacturers who have moved to Vietnam, the actual amount of production done there is miniscule. Due to trade restrictions & other legislation passed circa 2018-2020, Chinese produced imports to the US we’re restricted and/or faced higher tariffs(the cost to export a good into another country for sale).To skirt these trade restrictions, companies that manufacture products in China moved some production to Vietnam. Generally, the majority of the labor is still done in China to save costs, sent to Vietnam to be “finished” so that they can slap the “Made in Vietnam” on it and then send it to their distributors.
Your logic would mean all of their product would go through Vietnam first. It doesn't. Also, shipping to Vietnam first world cost more. Unless you have an actual source for this info, it sounds completely made up and wrong. I do agree that the Vietnam factory isn't consistently lower quality. I just don't think it's for the reasons you suggest.

I’d also like to say I’m sorry- the way you presented the “China vs Vietnam factory” in this video(that it’s a crapshoot with either) is correct. IMO.
I’m sorry if my language was so ambiguous to give you the implication that all products would go through Vietnam. As the figure moves through production, near-finished products are shipped to either a Chinese or Vietnamese factory. So, Why would the company even bother selling goods with “Made in China”- depends on the nature of tariffs & US trade laws- how they’re meant to be understood and how they’re meant to be carried out. It could be a cap on the amount of a particular type of good. It could be a ban or an increased tax.

I don’t have anything that specifically says “they’re likely using Chinese labor for the majors of production, then sending it to Vietnam for boxing and export in order to, legally, avoid US duties on imports” . I think, given the above, we can draw the following conclusions that are at least somewhat pertinent to the QC discussion & Bandai production:
-Bandai has a supply chain and produces items or components in a variety of Southeast Asian countries, including China and Vietnam
-Their appears to be a major focus for many companies to move out of China and “de-risk”(due to trade war, possible end to tariff freeze, geo-political tensions)
-Problem: Increased Chinese labor costs Solution: Companies are finding cheaper labor in other Southeast Asian countries
Like I said, can’t prove it, and to my knowledge it’s not illegal- but it’s possible. I’d certainly think it’s safe to say the raw material extraction, parts manufacturing, product assembly, detailing, packaging shipping/export of the figures is likely done throughout Southeast Asia. During the end of production it ends up in a Vietnamese or Chinese factory, packaged w/ a label for “made-in (respective country)” and then sent out to its next destination. IMO-The QC issues are mainly design issues- which you regularly point out- and I don’t think that has anything to do with the factory location. So I guess I agree with you after all lol
PS: You’re my “go-to” reviewer of SHF DBZ/GT/S figures, love that you set the bar high. Keep up the good work
