    Thank you. I've really been struggling with learning how to stop. I started to think that it was because my wheels are 145mm, and not 80mm like the tutorials I watch. But seeing a speed skater use the hockey stop and power slide help me gain confidence to go out to a roller hockey rink and practice.

    Finally found a video of someone doing the power stop in speed skates. I thought it was near impossible since I have 4 100 mm wheels and a size 3 boot. I tried to do it in my inlines I wore before I started wearing speed skates and I did it first try. I guess I'll have to try harder on speed skates.

    I was hoping to see a full on agressive hockey stop on speed skates. I have the muscle memory for doing that from playing hockey most of my life but the few times I've tried on wheels, I've ended up on the floor :) because the wheels just don't hold their edges like ice skates and even if you get the edging right you have to continually adjust body english as you slow. The power slide as you say is much safer and your demo is what I really needed to see. I still don't know what I would do in an emergency stop situation. Back in the day it was more look for a soft place to land than try to stop.

But I noticed that you didn't slide at all. Is it due to the slowing down prior to the brake or due to a different approach to it?

If you were your protection then i suggest to try to go as low as possible the kind of jump on your protection then… if no protection then best to to reduce speed before impact^^so slaloming is the best way...and even better combine with plow stop style a bit…
      best advice is Always to use protection actually^^ for beginner of course but still for long ^^

    • @bxl2012
      @bxl2012 Před 5 lety

      It is the same with everything in life. You need to train the body and build up the muscles (in this case that support the ligaments). If someone who has never done this movement does it for hours while rolling down steep hills, he or she might get problems (but I know hundreds of skaters doing t-stops and I have never heard of it). Start slowly and if you haven't skated in the winter months, then don't overdo it. I have lately started training more aggressive slides like the magic slide etc. Sometimes my knee does hurt a bit the next day. Then I will not skate until I have no problems and take it slower the next time in order to give the necessary muscles more time to develop.

    i'm wondering, why soul slides or magic slides aren't mentioned.
    isn't the soul slide a far more stable way to break than a hocket stop/parallel slide and powerslide, while also providing a far greating breaking power than the t stop?
    i mean i wouldn't even think to do a hockey stop/parallel slide on speed skates, given that they are far more unstable than inline downhill skates for example.
    is there any reasoning behind leaving out soul slides and magic slides as breaking options, or did u just never think of using them?

    • @ThePascalbriand
      @ThePascalbriand Před 4 lety +1

      cataria hi , good comments. Actually in this video which is quite old already I just mentioned brake method a speed skating mainly use. Speed skater are not famous for behind the best at stopping. Actually we try to never stop. Best technique would come from downhill for sure I think. Speed skate feel unstable for some people but please note that speed skater who are used to this skate are actually more stable on those than on other. At least it’s my case I feel much more stable on those skate than on my other pairs of skate just because I grow on that kind and can control the way they hold me. Feel free to recommand some good link here for good other braking system. Stopping is number one problem In skating.... THE idea behind this video is more to think about at least loosing speed before only thinking of a real stop.

      it does focus on downhill breaking, but at least people get to read what the other breaking methods, that u didn't cover are, what names they have and what breaking method they might like the most :)
      in regards to being stable on speed skate boots; my first pair of full speed skate boots, the bont jet boots are arriving soon i hope. i'll be coming from really stiff inline downhill boots. i hope, that i can be a fraction as stable as u seem in your videos, wish me and my ankles luck getting used to those :D

    @Statek63 Před 3 lety +1

    The thing is that on marathon skates you have no real brake. This is at least my starting point when thinking about my safety while I am out on this kind of skates. Look ahead and think ahead...

    • @Statek63
      @Statek63 Před 3 lety

      I tend to think that marathon wheels have too good grip especially on tarmac - and they also have too much leverage against one's muscles - so that if tried a hockey stop at some 30+ km/h then the skates would rip my ankles apart or I would fall in a massive "highside" (borrowing from motorbike terms) rather than doing a slide to a stop. Maybe urban skate wheels are something different... I have never seen anyone doing a hockey stop on long distance skates, on tarmac or on concrete road (highway type), in real life.

      @@ThePascalbriand I like the music. It works perfectly with the slow-motion video! This is a great tutorial! I raced indoor quads in the 1970's and 1980's. During the mid-1990's, I taught myself to inline skate, then raced indoor on 5x80's. I never learned how to stop hard on inlines. I now have 4x110's. I just skate outdoor and only for fitness now, but I have always been afraid of hard stopping techniques since the wheels are so tacky compared to what I had on indoor quads. I have seen other people do that backwards front slide, but never in slow-motion before. This is a big help. I will practice these on my old 5x80mm first, then once I master it, switch to 4x100, then finally my 110s! Thank you Thank you Thank you!
