Arsenal fan for 34 years. There’s very few naturally talented players ahead of Jack. Watching him dance around prime Barcelona’s midfield is one of my favourite memories.
More like, one of your only memories. Let’s have it right. Jack Wilshere’s ‘career’ consists of: i) being stretched off and ii) spitting his dummy out.
As a Tottenham fan I can only commend this comment and player, unreal talent and a really massive shame to not see him consistently hit the numbers he could of hit
Was this in a friendly?
@@anthonybattersby1505 champions league
NUFC fan here and completely agree. Was excited for England games after seeing that performance.
The nicest thing about this interview is seeing jack actually smiling and seeming upbeat whilst talking about football.
Fr, no talented young player imagines they’d have a career like his. He’s defo making the most of his life and isn’t resentful over anything, he seems like a proper good person
the millions of dollars probably helped
@@omarkarim9298 doubt it considering if you watch interviews during when he’s injured he was clearly extremely depressed from not playing. Even with his millions.
The fact that he was talking through all these so calm, almost not much emotion, makes me feeling super heartbroken. He left his tears behind now, and we missed a super talented footballer probably once in a few decades.
I think it’s because he’s happy coaching at Arsenal now aswell. Good for him
When he was younger he was unbelievable the game against Barca I think it was he absolutely bossed it
When youve reached despair youre dead inside, nothing can scare you mate
Meh, guardiola said it best. We have several jack wilsheres in the reserve squad. Nothing amazing
@@aidangriffiths5075 Yeah TOTS at 19 years of age in his first season as a professional, nothing amazing obviously.
As an arsenal fan nothing will haunt us like Jack's injury record, Abu Diaby's injuries and Eduardo's injuries. those 3 players will hurt this fanbase for the rest of their lives
Top comment real gooner
Abu Diaby was like a Yaya toure, what a baller he was
Diaby would’ve been so dominant 🤯
Don't forget Santi's final years with us
@@gimmibox true that
Just two footballers sitting around discusssing war wounds. Happy to have you back for another year with the Red Dragons Ben!!! ❤⚽
Even in his final games for Arsenal, he was still a good player, scoring goals against the likes of Chelsea. Listening about how these injuries affected him just puts into perspective how well he has done despite that
Scoring goals? He only scored 9 his entire time at Arsenal.
I'm the same age as Jack, and been an Arsenal fan all my life. Jacks injuries and what might have been in his career is so sad to think about, devastated for him. One of the first academy boys to break through the team in the Emirates era. Didn't actually know Fozzy had many of the same struggles, a shame how it can ruin careers..
Hahahahahaha Jack wheelchair the NHS patient, couldn't have happened to a better guy 😂😂😂 COYS!!!!

Jack was my favourite player from the post-Fabregas era. It breaks my heart how unlucky he got with injuries. Hope his coaching career goes well but above all else hope he has a good life.
Love this interview. Jack Wilshere is one of my favourite ever Arsenal players and I hated all the crap he got on social media for being injured. This lad was my Tony Adams and should have be Captain until he hung up his boots. Great talent, top bloke. Heart breaks for Jack. Doing a fantastic job back at Arsenal now!!
Even playing as a kid you hurt you leg or whatever and can’t play you feel like crying, I can’t imagine being able to play professionally and then getting injured all the time constantly. Really upsetting. Jack seems like he’s a decent guy tho not an arrogant guy.
I had a Navicular injury as well out 12 months 2 screws and Ben ain’t lying one of the most painful recoveries. Came back after that and went pro. One of the hardest things I’ve gotten through in my life
Sunday league isn’t pro
Big respect to Jack! I tore my acl at 15 and life was hard
Im so sorry for Jack he came to Denmark just when my team AGF was in the rot just surviving Relegation. they could not even pass to each other Jack hadn o chance to show his special Talent
happy to see him carrying on with he Coaching Career
This video really helped me, I am 3 days into my recovery after ACL, MCL & Full Meniscus Tear surgery - I understand the mental game Jack, Ben & others have been through
Hope you recover well!

Met Jack a couple times in my uni gym in Ireland when he was over here doing rehab with his physio. Such a quality guy, really nice to talk to and didn't have an ounce of arrogance or self importance. Was such a good footballer, the injuries were such a shame and I can't imagine how hard it must have been.
Where was this and why was he using that gym?
@@ronan5124 University of Limerick. He was there because his physio at this time was based in Ireland and he was staying with him doing rehab, not sure what injury but a pretty bad one I think.
I've had no ACL since the early 90s, it's been a motivation for me to get out and focus on the things I can still do. Hiked the Pacific crest trail, next up continental divide trail
I'm happy for Jack that per reached put and brought him home ❤
One of my favourite ever players! Heartbreak seeing jacky boy getting injured
Remember that game for England against Slovenia, he got 2 screamers! So unlucky but top baller on his day
If there is one player you feel for with the rotten luck of injuries it’s Jack! So much potential! Glad he is back in the game with coaching!! I loved listening to him on Drive with Andy and Darren Bent!
Wilshere, Diaby and Rosicky comes to mind. Even Cazorla in recent years. So many talented players gone to serious injuries... sad
I don't! Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke 😂😂😂 COYS!!
Not really, blokes a bellend.
Saw jack at the amsterdam tournament when he was about 16.what a talent
I had that same injury when i landed on my ankle awkwardly and fractured that ankle bone. I couldnt put any pressure on that foot for about 6 months. Even after it healed it was never the same again. Even now almost 30 years later i couldnt stand on that foot for any extended period of time and it has also affected the knee due to how the injury changed the physiology of the feet like how you walk and so on. Never played any sports since then.
Same happened to Eden Hazard, since his injury against PSG he was never the same
i couldn't stop smiling watching this, even if it's not the best of topics (injury and etc) the energy is pure and wholesome!
Energy?! The bloke has zero personality. Seen more life in a burnt fishcake
Awesome episode! I do love the arsenal ones more i must say
I'm glad they talk about the effect that being injured has on you, but they have it much easier. Ruptured my ACL, tore my LCL and MCL and fractured my Tibia and Femur last year. Was back at work 6 weeks later as couldn't afford to be off, had to wait 11 months for surgery - had it 3 weeks back - and will be back at work, 50 hours a week in 3 weeks. The lucky rich footballers get the full 9 months to heal whilst on their thousands of pounds each week and physio support 7 days a week. Relying on the NHS is a whole other story. One physio 'session' once every 2 weeks where you're just given a sheet with a few different exercises on to do alone. If I do return to playing at some point, it will be a huge testament to myself and no-one else.
Yeah it's tough with NHS. Make sure you follow through with physio. I waited 5 years for my first op after doing my ACL. Then physio was a joke with NHS. Tore my ACL again. Physio is the most important bit of recovery. Take your time.
@Abdus If there is one thing I'm good at, it's doing the rehab process alone lol.
bruhhh... what you do for a living? if you're working in office, you have no business breaking your body that much... must be from falling over some random things I suppose
@r.sakarollsafe1285 I was playing football obviously.
@@gameshack1985 but that's life.. You are rubbish at football and they were good at there job....
This was fascinating
All i dreamed about was for Jack to be what he was destined to be but our boy has given us so many great memories he is a Gooner just like us all
I remember watching my dad play in goal for a Sunday league team. he was on the edge of his box and needed to quickly run back to goal, he turned around but his foot stayed stuck in the muddy Sunday league pitch! He basically twisted his ankle 180’. It was horrendous!!
😮
As someone that has had a bunch of the injuries they mentioned I actually take some solace from the fact how much it affected them but how strong they are talking about it. I never played at a particularly high level but the injuries are so depressing, it becomes about the next one of if not when. Almost like your body is compensating for weaknesses and putting pressure on other parts of your body that then fail you due to the extra burden. Jack was a serious talent, never got to see how good he could have been. He was getting MOTM for England almost every game he played and minus the injuries 100+ caps would have been a cert.
Jack wonderful player sad he had so many injuries
Gutted Jack got the injuries he did, the bloke was mustard in the middle 👏🏼 i always remember him bossing the game against Barcelona at home in the CL for us 🤩
There's a lad up here in Scotland (Lewis Vaughan at Raith) who is still playing professionally after 4 ACL injuries (two each knee). Unreal.
Someone in Aussie rules where I’m from went through 7 ACL’s before retiring!
Will always be a legend in AGF
Always liked Jack, even as a United fan, absolutely devastated for him, killed his career stone dead sadly 😢😢
Jack's attitude about all of that is awesome. This is a great bit, besides the injury those last months of his career. Blonde Jack 😅😅😅
That's horrible luck the 1st injury being not only the worst one but a very obscure rare one.
Fascinating
One of the underrated aspects of Arsenal's downfall prior to last season. He was the best player to ever come out of our academy and was widely expected to go on to be Arsenal captain, maybe even England captain. He was playing against Barcelona in the Champions League when he was 16, and we beat them. At this point, if not for the injuries, he would probably be the club captain and a crucial part of the team setup.
As a foreigner and an Arsenal fan living in Aarhus, I do wish Jack had stuck it out a bit longer. The town was buzzing to have him around. It's the 2nd biggest city in the country, but AGF historically is not one of the big successful teams, so it was a big deal to get a player of his stature.
I'll never forget seeing Jack Wilshire hit the first team one pre-season, aged like 16 or something! He ran Miguel Salgado vs Real Madrid absolutely ragid! What a way to introduce yourself to first team football. Such a gutter regarding injuries.
Honestly Jack had it in him to be one of England's greatest midfielders, That Barca game schooling Xavi and Iniesta them not being able to touch him. Every time he got the ball at his feet he just looked levels above everyone else
What a top player he was when he was fit. . Injuries are out of his control. Made a decent living still.
One of the most naturally gifted players I’ve seen play for us. Such a shame that his body couldn’t cope with the rigours of professional football.
Getting to watch Jack was a joy glad he’s in a better position now.
Ben, can you get goalkeeper Willy Caballero who is now a coach at Leicester City on the podcast? Excellent interview with Jack!
Got 2 greenstick fractures in my right tibia/fibula 2 years ago, currently suffering with compensation problems and in my knee and both hips and its rough, considering surgery again to get the plates and pins removed (2 plates, 11 pins)
My all time favourite player. Had everything and profile we won’t see again in 🏴
Phil Foden says hi
We all knew how good Jack was. From a Utd fan
Legend
Man, Super Jack was one of my favourite players.
Need a full extended version js on injuries
I don’t play pro by any means and have had my fair share of injuries and it plays on your mental state so much. Can’t imagine if it was my job. Some people that don’t play the game just don’t understand
I like this podcast respect Ben and Jack premier league legends!
JW was such a talent coming into the spotlight at 15 such a shame the injuries took there toll he would have been a player Arsenal built the team around
It's a shame. But he had a great career at the same time. I'm sure a lot of players never even make it passed underage because of injury
GREAT! PS Please wrap the mic cable around the boom arm before it plugs into the mic. THX!
One of the best midfield growing up watching his game ,still gives goosebumps watching game against Barcelona .we miss u jack
Arsenal have had a lot of careers derailed by injuries. Diaby, Eduardo, Ramsey to an extent but Jack' career is just heartbreaking. He could have been our lynchpin for years, alongside Cazorla Arsenal would have run pretty much every game and imagine him behind Kane for England. Hopefully he's found a new path to stay in the game as a coach and potentially moving into management
Rosicky too.
Santi himself is another one that lost large chunks of his career to injury and I agree, those two along side each other would have been beautiful.
@@JohnnyMaverik Santi was lucky not to have his leg amputated, incredible recovery.
@@JohnnyMaverik I saw some highlights from the Joaquin testimonial and that and seeing Jack at soccer aid was both beautiful and sad. Santi still needs a proper goodbye at the Emirates
genuinely the most talented english player I ever witnessed play the game. such a shame he didn't get to live up to his potential, I think englands international history could have looked very different with a fit Jack. devastated for him
Most talented English player ever? Slight exaggeration there.
Yes he was injury prone but now he is an Arsenal Coach! That is a big job in itself.
Fractured my talus myself in a car crash, been a year and it’s still not right, hard to come back from!
Best player that came through Hale end academy
just empathising about what these players go through from injury. i never played football at a high level, but i've had a big injury from a motorbike crash. snapped my fibular, shattered my tibia in 12 places. they were the worst injuries, i had other broken bones around my body but my right leg was the very serious one. it's hard! people don't get it.
The way Wilshere used to set off on a jink reminds me of Foden a little. Wilshere was ahead of his time as far as Englands technique goes.
Honestly it would be great if you could have previews for each clip like the Happy Hour Podcast
I had a hernia operation at 10 and played 9 days after on the next Sunday granted I was a keeper and couldn’t kick but was doing all the other bollocks
I’ve always felt he ran on his heels more than the front foot, and doing that does not activate his ankle mobility much and more pressure on ankle. Running on toes is like how four legged animals run, elite (most) athletes run on toes, making the ankle a 2nd joint like a knee for the whole leg. Just an hypothesis, been a nearly 4 minute miler and it’s completely different ball game running on toes, much faster and self absorbing.
I loved how distinct he ran, low centre of gravity, brilliant awareness. Wish young footballers to taught (other sports too) to have a more awareness of how to maximise their physical in healthier way.
I was gutted for Jack. I loved him at arsenal! Probably one of my favourite players
its always sad when see player naturally talented like him getting injuries and not reached the potential that he had
i’m 21 now, when i was younger my dream was to play along side Jack for Arsenal and England, now i’m a plumber…😭😭
Don't stop playing ball.
@@jc-16. i had to stop because i shattered my knee and now have no cartilage, can’t run or kick a ball now, played in coventry academy from 10-14 though
@Conor McGuire your only 21, I've finally finished playing this year, I'm nearly forty. When I was 16 I dislocated my right hip, tore all the ligaments and tendons and chipped the bone. It took me 23 months to get back playing, I never had the same power in my leg, but got back to maybe 60%, I had to change how I played to get back, in my 3rd game back I did my acl in my left knee out for 10 months, had to change how I played again, no sharp turns but I got back. I had 3 ankle breaks over the next 10 years , and finally this year I got a patella and meniscus tear in my left knee. I can't play anymore even if I wanted too, but I wouldn't change a thing, football can give you something few things in life can offer, it's the best arena to express yourself, that type of space disappears as you age, and trust me you'll miss it when your time comes, I'd give anything to be able put my boots back on and play in one more battle in midfield. You might never get back to your old level or old standard but I'm rooting for you young man. Go play. Peace
@@jc-16. you sir are a legend
@@conormcguire3265 Mate those who push you to ‘put the boots on’ don’t care for the fact you’ve got to go out and earn a pound note as a plumber.
There’s no room for sentimental BS when you’re hobbling round, having to cancel a job which hits YOUR income - not theirs.
You’ve made the right decision. You don’t have to apologise for it or defend it to anyone fella.
I always felt he was messed about a bit.... Positionally..... Never felt settled... Such a supreme talent.... I actually think under-rated... Foden reminds me a lot of Jack...

Best English talent I’ve seen
We love you jack 🫶🫡
He'd be comfortably one of the top midfielders in the world had injuries not blighted him.
If Jack Stayed Injury free though out his career he would have been one of the best players of this generation
Baller 😎
Generational talent, he wouldve picked up the "one of the world's best players, english midfielder" mantle from Gerrard/Lampard had it not been for these injuries. There were glimpses of what he was capable of, but there was always the certainty of him getting injured again soon after picking up form.
Ramsey looked like something similar too, i wonder how they both couldve been had they not had their serious injuries.
I used to play football fairly often all the way to my early 40's, still d, just not as frequently, during that time i suffered injury upon injury not to the extent i had to be surgically operated on, but it was recommended. You wont understand if you are a casual fan how that messes with your mindset as a player. Glad he is at peace with his decision. So when i hear things like injury prone. etc, yeah you wont understand.
fozzy. You should try and do a interview with bradley dack. he had 2 acl injuries was an absoultle baller. he has had some injuries
He's most famous for being on TOWIE.
Grat stuff....
CHAMPIONS AGAIN NEXT YEAR.❤
I think Jack’s style of game also contributed to his injuries. He held the ball too long and got hacked.
Buzzing to see Jack on here, get out for some golf with him Fozzy 👍🏼
Might have been too late, but I often wonder did any of his coaches discuss his style of play with him, particularly his preference when on the ball for drawing in players and flicking the ball past them. Left him wide open to be chopped down by some of the hatchet merchants in the PL
People dont see the struggles of daily life- ben talking about his injury.
Well ben old mate, you along with jack the lad here were blessed (talented) to be pro footballers.
Us ordinary people get injuries , some dont get sick pay and if it is its buttons . people have to go to work injured and in pain.
So while your there crying about an injury that was painful and kept you from playing for a few months just remember the pay checks you was still able to pick up 😊
Still my favourite arsenal player… one of the best players England has ever produced
Really? Go check yourself.
Such a talent he was. Being born in 93' Jack Wilshere, Jon Flanagan, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Iker Muniain, were players born in 92/93 who inspired me briefly to become a pro footballer ❤

a fifa legend and was big part of some great teams back in the day.
Probably the most natural talented english footballer since Rooney, might even Gazza. Such a shame.
Paul Merson said he would stop him tackling & play with the ball more...
Always felt for Jack. We had a lot injuries at Arsenal in the Emirates era. Personally I think they were over playing a lot of young men. They shouldn't be playing a full game week in week out, until they hit about 22-23 and they have physically adapted. Michael Owen was another player at young age playing week in, week out...
No... it was more to do with the rugby teams who couldn't match our dominant possession game and kicked us to bits with refs turning a blind eye as usual! Teams unable to play like Stoke, Sunderland and Man Utd.
@@mouthofhorrorAlex Ferguson the fraud managed to pressure the reffree to not giving his players red card for the sickening fouls 😂😂. That's why man utd's downfall seems to be cosmic karma 🤣🤣.
whats the name of the lady who done the surgery for both jack and ben ?
Being injured as a normal person is horrible. Even a simple leg break takes 6 weeks to literally heal, but you aren't normal again for months. I couldn't imagine a body part not working threatening your career opportunities
One of my favourite episodes, only criticism is that it was too short
every time i play football manager, i was always recommended by my scouts to buy Jack Wilshere, saying he is very good and fits in to my club and players etc blah blah all the good stuff.
then the con will always be that he is very injury prone. and I just feel sad that I can't buy him because of that.
