  • In the early 2000's, we were still shooting film, we, the people who were poor. The Canon, Nikon and Fuji brands as well as the other giants charged over $1000 for entry digital cameras. If I could have afforded this back then I would have grabbed it. The Canon EOS 20D today in 2024 still makes me smile, still creates a stunning image and still commands respect.

    I love to see people keeping these old work horses alive. I started shooting weddings with a 10D and 20D, and still have, and use, both of them. I would use them more often but the batteries and memory cards are different than what I use in my newer cameras, and they would be too cumbersome in my workflow.
    Thanks for posting!

    20D was my first DSLR camera. Funny thing, I am filling my stable with older DSLRs now. What was old is still old, but the vibes you get from these old 'chunks' is something special.

      I still have my Canon 20D, which I purchased when it came out. :)
      Camera works wonders. The only thing that irritates me is the batteries, especially in the winter.
      Lately I use my camera for a lot of Photogrammetry stuff.

    Enjoyed your review of the 20D. My wife, in 2024, needed help b/c her real estate photographer was not available when she needed it. No problem! I've got this. 20D. Tripod. Bracketed photos. LightroomCC. PhotoshopCC. Well, they weren't the greatest crisp images, but they kinda did the job in a pinch. I'm blaming it on post production.

      @@robbellphoto so as a follow up…you seem like the right person to answer this question: if you were going to buy a used camera body to take pictures for real estate…let’s say, below $400ish dollars, (drumroll please) What camera would you buy? Worth noting I have a couple lenses compatible with the 20D, 30D, etc….up to the EOS 7D MarkII ($405 @ KEH) and
      Digital Rebel series DSLRs.
      That 7D is tempting but maybe those excel at outside sports? Idk.
      Thanks for playing this semi-hypothetical game of “Oldie but goodie” lol

      @@tokyolane Ha !!!! No worries , it’s seems that these days convenience and speed are a huge factor. Modern cameras have Wi-Fi to instantly upload your images to your cell, then to the client for posting to the listing agent. But that can get pricey. I personally like Nikon, the smaller 5100 up as they have articling screens, 16+ mp and are inexpensive. Then wide angle lenses F mount again are inexpensive. A good tripod and LIGHTROOM and you’re away. Check out my video on the 5100

    Although I have a 1DX Mk III, 7D Mk II, and recently added the R6 Mk II to my gear, I still have my original 300D, which is too much like an old friend to get rid of, and of course my beloved 20D. The 20D is a really nice walkaround camera, and frankly I think its color rivals any of my "better" cameras.

      @robbellphoto  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Well it sounds like you’re a shooter who knows for sure ! How’s the R6 ?!

      @@robbellphoto It's amazing! Quite a bit more sophisticated than even the 1DX, yet still reasonably user-friendly. I like the 20D for casual shooting like if I'm just taking a lunchtime walk. For more ambitious stuff like bird/wildlife photography, I'll bring any or all of the "big" cameras. The R6, with its eye-recognition AF, really shines in this kind of use.

    Have owned 20d since launch. Image quality is fine but the dim, dark viewfinder on it (like the 10d, 300d, etc) is almost unusable, especially since I came to it after using the super bright finder on the eos1v
