You have to put your palm on the cluster and push down and flatten it. Then when to u pick it up it will open like a flower. Makes picking the meat easy. Works on any crab.

NICEEEEE im a commercial lobster diver out of fort lauderdale and i always get the spider crabs when i see them, they are really tasty. great video
Hey guys I live on the West coast, and catch and eat Spider crab all the time. The best way to cook them I've found is to put crab in boiling water, once the water returns to a boil I cook for minimum12 to 15 minutes. And I usually cook10 to 25 crab at a time. I know all parasites are dead.

Interesting specie of Crabs. That's good to hear that the amount of meat is plentyful and that the taste of this Florida Spider Crab meat is similar to Blue Claw Crab meat.

Love seeing the kids having a blast, reminds me of being a kid on our family vacations to the West coast of Canada and Vancouver Island rod fishing for Greenling, Rockfish and Lingcod and catching Spot Prawns/Shrimp and Dungeness crab in shrimp and crab pots. Sometimes we'd even hit it right for Salmon which are amazing fighters! My fondest memories of my Parents are from trips like that and I'm sure my Brother would say the same.

I took my 5 year old girl catching Bluecrabs with a string and a chicken neck down near Galveston bay here in Texas, after we filled a 5 gallon bucket, we took them back to camp where her mom was getting a big ole pot to boil, complete with Cajun boil mix...it was then, at that very time , it dawned on my kid that we were not catching new pet crabs but that they were our dinner! LOL! she got so mad at me she would'nt even eat a hotdog that night...The next day I bought her a hermit crab at a tourist trap and she made me promise I was not going to eat it!

Hey Gabe , You can find plenty of spider crabs at the bridges here in the keys where they drilled holes for the bridge pilings and drove the pilings in. really good

@bluegabe I was in the Keys with a group friends a couple years after I think Hugo. We went out for lobster. Well weather sucked so me and my one buddy went out in his john boat that we drive with us. He just pulled around behind the boat in shallow water prob6up to like 35 feet at the deepest. Well I got some lobster but got these HUGE (King Crab huge) crabs. Legs were up to like 18inches. So why not, we cooked them with the lobster I had caught and they were as good as any crab we had ever eaten. I asked some of the folks around the island and even at the bait store and they called these crabs Channel Clinging Crabs. Look a lot like what you are grabbing in this video. Remember now this was like 94, 95 or 97 if my memory timeline is good. Keep up the great work and thanks
