This might be the first time I've seen the in/out jointed edge for glue up trick. Very clever, thank you for posting.
The 2 of you are a joy, pleasure, entertaining, funny, informative channel to watch. Love the daybed.
I learn something new from you guys nearly every time. The glue up was the lesson this time
This is exactly what I need but larger and sturdier.
I don't know why you showed up in my feed. But so glad you did. Your videos are so amazing in regards to your creative out-of-the-box vision. And a real plus for me is you are so funny. Thank you! A new subscriber.
Very Nice! I've been curious about designing furniture for flat-packing so this was incredibly helpful. Thanks! Also, I'm loving the lo-fi, daybed tunes. Good stuff.
Great job, thanks for the great motivational videos, I decided to make content on woodworking and I did it thanks to you!
Ребята, вы такие молодцы!
I love what you guys do. This video was awesome. Trying to wide down after the week and I laughed out loud during the 12 hours bit. Never thought I would giggle every time when the word thickni is used. Thank you both for all you do.
More power to you both guys.. keep safe.. godbless...
amazing talent! beautiful craftsmanship!
One of the main things I love about your channel is its a pleasure to listen to. No generic guitar rock which seems to be in the vast majority of woodworking videos out there. Thank you so much!
I love it, Id like to try it with plywood. Maybe cover it with vinyl or fabric.
Great work guys! Appreciate you all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦
I need a four eyes t-shirt
Wow! That's totally awesome!
Great job, thanks for the great motivational videos, I decided to make content on woodworking and I did it thanks to you!
It is much more complex than I originally thought. Great looking bed to sleep during the day!
Great video! Well done!
Incredible, how simple and concise! No wonder they say that it is true in simple things
Why place the connectors on the inside in view of the occupant vs the outside?
It was the client’s choice. The piece is going to be in the middle of the room, so they wanted the outside faces to be totally hardware free.
Shaun, This is a straightforward design which I love. I also love your explanation of your build. I have not purchased a Festool Domino yet, but I understand its usefulness, especially when using the Domino Connectors. German ingenuity at its best.
What I miss with your videos is the riddles with the puns at the end. Hope to hear some new ones in the future.
Thanks for sharing. Felix
"What I miss with your videos is the riddles with the puns at the end." Haha, I was just thinking the same thing. Then seeing that grin on his face because he really thought it was funny 😂.
Appreciate it! Yeah, the connector system is really great. And I’ll get back to my usual endings at some point, hopefully it will be worth the wait.
Very nice Shaun! I really dig how the panels are on full display in this piece. And the knock-down connectors were a solid choice!
Great job, thanks for the great motivational videos, I decided to make content on woodworking and I did it thanks to you!
Very nice project. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making God bless
Great job, thanks for the great motivational videos, I decided to make content on woodworking and I did it thanks to you!
Killer video boys! I never understood why my parents always had a day bed :)
Very nice build Mr SMBT. You guys are really honing your skills. The modern Thomas Mouseman Co, or Chippendales perhaps 👍👍 really interesting content and super quality furniture. Us simple hoppy woodworkers should be inspired to make a truly great piece for our next project, I certainly am 🤞thanks for the great content.
Really appreciate that! Thanks for watching and glad I can offer a bit of inspiration.
Great film, well done. A bed frame build without a mattress sponsor. Another first. 😊 Bed is gorgeous. Mahalo for sharing! : ) 🐒
Haha! Should have leveraged this one better with the sponsors. Thanks for watching!
Great job, thanks for the great motivational videos, I decided to make content on woodworking and I did it thanks to you!
Homemade IKEA furniture, but good quality! Super sick build!
Perfect, como se dice en Argentina perfecto y super especial
THE EDITING ON THE CHIN BALANCE THO...CLEVER!
I'm considering building something similar, but not out of hardwood, since I don't have the tools or skills for that. I have two box mattresses in my spare room, but only really have room for one, so I want the other one to be able to slide under the other, in case it's needed.
I'm really loving all the humor you guys have in the videos! Instant like for me!
Very nice build!
I was just wondering, you now have very large panels made out of solid wood, are you not worried that these panels will bow and bend over time?
I guess you glued them with alternating growth rings, but still, changes in moisture over the seasons can impact stability? Or what are your thoughts about this?
Thanks!
gotta love having the brah to give a third (wheel) hand - when is sbms gonna come back ?
Beginner question: is there concern of the panels warping/twisting over time? Or if the wood is properly dried is that not anything to worry about? Thanks, guys, and great job on another (past) build.
-You should really do a video on how you guys spray finish all your works. Just recently tried to use some wipe on wb poly and boy, doing proper finish is difficult. Your finishes always come out looking great, especially on your plywood stuff (my baltic birch plywood just ate up the wipe on stuff, it was hard to apply). I'm really thinking about getting a sprayer like yours...- Okay just seeing your finishes video. Ignore me now
Cool creation guys! I was wondering what kind of connectors would you recommend if you don't own a Domino?
Shoes on the Bed!!!!! This offends me much more than Chris' fear of wasting glue.
@@jeeves6490 No, we allow our dog on our bed, but we also wash his paws every time he comes in from walking outside. My partner is Asian and the idea of shoes on inside the house totally freaks her out. As such there is a whole process when we come inside where we take off our shoes, put them away and they wipe down the dog's paws before he gets his walk/potty treat.
@@mrfochs Dogs paws are as big as my hands, and no, they don't get washed.
Bedding gets changed every year whether it needs it or not.
Really impressive build and a very well made Day Bed!
I'd be worried about the big panels moving if I made a piece like this out of solid timber, and so I'm curious - how much time do you spend selecting timber for furniture projects, so as to ensure you've got the most stable boards?
Thank you! Yeah, choosing good lumber is definitely important. But also with a piece like this, if the panels move a bit, it really won’t cause any big problems.
Lol you can see the plank balancing thing is just a repeated clip, the amount of effort for something so silly. Love the personality on this channel
Why not connect the slats together with perpendicular piece on the undersides which also serve as the guide to center on the lower beam. Easy and fast placement when it comes together after unpacking
I wish more people would have complimentary edges.
@@shaunb66 BTW which one of you is the big spoon during your day naps? Thinking Ross and Joey.
When did Shaun get married? This is the first video I've noticed a ring. If I'm right, congrats!
As always, thanks for the great content!
The In/Out method is a nice trick, but I'm not sure I would use it together with dominos. If the edges are off (which they never are on your projects), will the dominos align properly if you use the faces to reference the Domino mortiser?
Oups! My bad! Of course, they do. You shouldn't use the edge to reference the Domino, though.
Great build as always. For the Dominos in the panel what mortise width are you using? One tight, one medium? Or both tight?
For the most part with panels that are getting trimmed to size later, I use the tight setting on both sides.
You should use th peanut counter instead of the festol it is cheaper and has no holes one the out side would recommend
Great job, thanks for the great motivational videos, I decided to make content on woodworking and I did it thanks to you!
How do you guys finish you’re projects? Lacquer?
Depends on the piece, but this one was finished with water-based polyurethane.
Another great build, guys. As usual, your humor is well done and well placed, too. You should make Chris take his shoes off before getting into bed. Take care.
Bill
Finally a project where Shaun can do his signature "lay on completed project" and it makes sense!
How do you guys ship? I sell a bunch of flat-pack furniture. Thanks! Love the videos.
We usually use Plycon. Doesn’t necessarily need to be flat packed with them, but the piece would have been too large to get into the clients house as one piece.
Just curious, but do you guys think you could do a head to head comparison of your CT Festool Vac vs. your Mirka Vac?
Hmm, not sure we will do a dedicated video, but both vac systems work great. I would say choose the system based on which sander you prefer. And for me, that is the Mirka.
Ok. I can appreciate that. Sorry to hear it isn't something you will do, but I do understand you guys are busy. Thanks for replying.
Can the same thing be made with plywood? Is plywood strong enough to hold the structure?
First Bangladeshi here 🇧🇩😁
Yes. We have a whole other video where we make a day bed (different style) completely out of Plywood. czcams.com/video/sRLLBP5u8Z4/video.html
@@Foureyes.Furniture thank you so much for recommending ❤️ I missed that video!
This guys talks with similar cadence to the Great Scott CZcams channel!
I’ll have to check him out. I hate the way I sound on camera, so he might not earn a new viewer, though.
Does staining wood make it waterproof?
One of your larger projects is awhile. So I had to watch it up on the 65" 4K Samsung 💯👍. Hoping all is well guys, Dirty Jersey out!!
Right on! Except my face on that size of a screen sounds a little scary! Thanks for watching man!
Do you guys or anyone else have a more in depth explanation of the in/out method for glue ups?
How did that L shaped footboard flat pack? it looks like it was glued into the L shape. I guess you could use the Domino connectors for that part as well.
Yeah, that was the one part that wasn't totally flat, but yes you could probably use the connectors for that too.
Great job, thanks for the great motivational videos, I decided to make content on woodworking and I did it thanks to you!
I'm curious why you didn't have the back piece inset to the sides so you could hide the festool hardware on the back of the back panel instead of on the inside corners?
It was the client’s call. The piece is going in the middle of the room, so they were most concerned with the outside of the panels being totally clean.
Great job, thanks for the great motivational videos, I decided to make content on woodworking and I did it thanks to you!
Hi Chris. I am living in Vietnam . And a found lately a company stealing your content to sell furnitures here.
why not have the fixings on the back where they wouldnt be seen and have the sides overlap the back so no end grain was seen from the side for a cleaner look????
Stop slacking off and square yo jointer fence. Workarounds should only be temporary. 😂. Love the thought of a solid cherry, flat pack day bed. Take that IKEA.
Looks claustrophobic for some.
May be worth mentioning that the design is very much based on the Donald Judd daybed.
This is chris (not Shaun) just looked it up and they are basically the same. That said. I had never heard of Donald Judd... and I don’t think Shaun has either. So I highly doubt Shaun was copying on this design. At the end of the day... they are both pretty uninspired boxes. No offense Shaun and Don. 😜
looks like Donald Judd's daybed
For a sec I thought he said the interior dimension of the David
I giggled at the 24 Countdown Timer sound joke ... anyone else?
IKEA joined the chat
Still trying to understand why Chris has gluewastephobia..... Anyway much love from Kenya 🇰🇪
Hell no one does not build this in 12hrs. Even two.
@@shaunb66 Thnx ) couldnt sleep at all. And pssst, Shaun... I like you more)
Unfortunately at no point you mention, that this is a copy of a design by Donald Judd.
juddy
The client is a fan of his work, so their design was definitely inspired by him.
HeHe
thicknii ... ok... lol
Hey @FourEyes - I’ve searched for ages for a good tutorial on how to make a Donald Judd DayBed - and it’s been fruitless until today. Bravo, fellas! Special Request for a future video - would you lovely nerdy gentlemen pleeeeeease consider making a Donald Judd style Office Work Table/Dining Table?
