THE CRAZINESS BEHIND THE SLATE LINE: Inside Gee's Mind.

- Join us on a Journey inside the mind of downhill mountain-biker Gee Atherton. In the most in depth ‘Behind the Scenes” edit we’ve ever produced Gee talks us through the full breakdown of everything that went into the building, the riding and the filming of the spectacular Slate Line film launched earlier this month.
The teamwork, the camaraderie, the fears and the sheer craziness, from a line that ended up far too close to the “cave of death” to that monster 81foot gap. Shot by shot, challenge by challenge.
Gee said “This is the culmination of all my years riding bikes. In situations like these I feel like I’m drawing on every minute of my experience, there is danger on every turn.
Filming: Dan Griffiths, Will Evans, Callum Philpott

You know it's deadly when Gee's mum turns up to a build & ride video.
Hahaha, gotta get mother’s approval of course.
@@AthertonRacing Can't wait for the next 1. Keep chasing the dream line's
Thanks for telling the story, Gee. Would love to see a similar video about the ridgeline. 👍
I bet that Conti was head over heels seeing their tires hold up to this level of torture as well.
Incredible the only thing missing is Rachel's crazy joy at the finish line :)
Rach having a baby no riding for her ha e a day love from TEXAS
Please keep doing these behind the scenes. It's amazing to hear what all goes into these shoots and all of the hard work that goes unnoticed in the final cut.
Mind blowing. Huge respect to you man.
Thanks Dude 👊🏼
Mind blown!
There’s no better advert for the strength of your frame
The Slate Line was a hefty beast to tackle, couldn’t have done it without confidence in the bike!
And the quality of your tyres haha
@@darkspeed62 too right! The Kaisers were sooooo good to us!
What an extraordinary athlete. On point bike skills and unquestionable self belief. Great crew too. Epic.
Cool idea to dissect the video and the techniques needed to hit the features. Really puts the skill, bravery and determination into perspective. Love it. Defo do more of this. It helps to appreciate it
The thumbnail was exactly to the point . Went to Dyfi this Sunday and had the chance to see few of the things Gee rode and I was breathless . Amazing
Great to welcome you to the Dyfi! Catch you soon 👊🏼
insane jump gap well played u are amazing
I absolutely loved this video! Thanks Gee, and all others involved!

The madness. Monster line. 😬💥💥

Great vid, i think next video project should do something with Brendog would make an awesome video
Here is Gee, building a DH run down a mountain in Wales, full of the legendary welsh slate. sending a 81+ feet road gap...AND then there me that's still working out how to jump correctly on a small 15 foot tabletop with my arse cheeks trying to grip onto my saddle..
but on a real, amazing work from you and all the lads that have been apart of this project, hand down you are someone I look up to in this sport and I think I speak for a lot of us herenthat are watching this!
Thanks Ashley, it’s awesome to see people like yourself appreciating what we do! Keep at those 15ft tables and they’ll soon turn into 80ft senders!
@@AthertonRacing really appreciate that comment back! It means a lot! Well I’ve made my channel so people can see me progress over time! It’s definitely something I would love to overcome one day..who knows might have to try the 82 foot gap!
Again, thanks and see you all up at Dyfi bike park soon! Stay safe all 👊🏻👍🏻
One word.... Epic
Shut the pucken drive train up....Epic....Monumentally EPICCCCCCCCccc!
Insane video fp loved the commentary
That was some rad riding. And big respect ✊ to you and the team 🤘
Insane line, #get the grip
This is insane man, keep it up Gee
Awesome video. Love hearing about all the details of each of the lines. My Favourite part was the line through the wheel house.
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it. The wheel house drop was a favourite of mine too, although threading the needle through the wall at speed after was certainly a wake up!
Baller!!!
As crazy as this was, it just shows the level the athertons are at. They keep pushing the boundaries but know what’s achievable, they know what they’re doing!
I sometimes wonder tho ;-)
Man! U so nailed that mountain! Sketchiest runs I have every seen. Amazing work for the whole mtb community 👊🏼
Thanks so much, appreciate it!
The last gap is a beast🤙🏻
I mean.... 1:24 I have absolutely no idea what possessed them to sit like that. You couldn't pay me 200k to sit on that ledge. I mean did they literally just walk up to it and sit down like they were sitting on a wall? Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope!
Hahahaha, only a little 600ft drop!
I agree. No way in hell would i sit there, not even for £1m
Dave MacLeod has a good shot in one of his trailers. cued it up for you.

Scary scary ride, quality video, loved the breakdown. Take care 👍
Appreciate it David 🙏🏼
🤯🤯🤯

This is REAL MTB!
He is like god in the bike world
Gnarly this is the deffinition of gnarly , hey Gee how about racing David Knight down it ?
That was mad how do you deal with being scared or nervous what was the bike and tyres like after
which tires was he riding @ContinentalMTB?
nice
Vicious. Shout-out to Joey Dyos
Dude I can see all your inspiration from them MJ videos😂😉 would love to ride this.
@6:09...curious to hear what she had to say about the Via Ferrata Gee...or probably she found out only after 🤣🤣🤣
Motivates a fella to go rip up the local , again and again and again
normal people seeing a quarry: better not go near it
gee: 0:45
There is a wheelhouse incline on the watkin path on snowdon i need to ride down
Amassing Video 👍 Can you make more building Videos please 🤘
Absolutely 🙏🏼
"Gee, u been a pussy" this had me fking dying hahahah
‘How does Gee sit down with balls that big’
is this the same bike as the one used in ridgeline? if it is, that frame is the ceo of frames dude
FUCKING AMAZING!
Yeah I didn't think I wonder if I could ride that when I saw it🤣🤣
Neither did I to be honest! - Gee
Did Ant take you inside the mine ?.... and get well soon fella
Actually what was the tyre pressure used I'm wondering, serious question
Much lower than normal, for increased traction, as low as 18psi
@@AthertonRacing thx for the info, miracle without puncture, awesome 🙏😎
Id assumed they saw Danny Mac's slate video, figured they had a much gnarlier one in Dyfu and went for it. I were wrong.
Haha not quite!
Quite right :) Dyfi would never be open with all the paramedics retrieving bodies from the cave of doom.
Did you get any punctures?
Amazingly not a single puncture during the entire project, the Kaisers held up amazing in the sharp slate!
Watch the video, he answers that question :P
Interesting fact Lakeland slate is far harder than Welsh slate
I’m guessing your Mum is the only “dislike” on this awesome post 👎😂
