- There's a whale of a wildlife show along the Oregon coast at a place that requires you hike the extra mile -- the Cape Lookout State Park Trail lures you along with splendid scenery at every turn with moments of wonder and surprise and sights that are simply breathtaking.
A B-17 bomber went down on Cape Lookout during WW2 during a training (navigation) mission, in a thick fog. There was one survivor. Parts of the wrecked plane are displayed at Tillamook Pioneer Museum.....and, there's a memorial plaque at Cape Lookout State Park.
Wow. To think this is all practically in my backyard and I've never hiked this trail. I need to get a life.
Watching this 11 years later. Did you do it?
Yeah I did this yesterday it was dank, then ran into ole Clyde the guide in this video volunteering at the Newport aquarium... dank trail and clyde was a great guy
Jack Hanigan i second this!
Locals only. No barneys allowed.
I'm number two to review. It's not in my backyard, but I will be there Spring of 2016. I'll be looking out for you.
These naturalists are funny with some of their exclamations. Such as Clyde stating that ferns are opportunistic on the trees or big clouds of compressed CO2 were expelled from the whales. Well, in an educational moment to spur on curiousity, I would have also said that ferns are epiphytes as are mosses, lichens, bromeliads, and orchids - plants which simply grow on top of others. In addition and similarly regarding the expelled CO2, I would have also said that CO2 is the same gas that is the metabolic end product of respiration that every critter on the planet exhales!
