- In today's My Chemical Romance reaction, I am listening to It's Not A Fashion Statement, It's a Deathwish for the first time as this metalhead reacts. MCR reactions are always some of my favourites to do simply because of how fun it is to listen to Gerard's voice and right off the bat, this song comes off swinging. The guitars are awesome, the structured chaos is awesome, and Gerard Way screaming and growling his voice is some of the best vocal performances I have ever sat down and thoroughly enjoyed hearing. Gerard sings these songs even better now, taking care of the vocal chords better but also very free & doesn't stress out worrying about their voice, which is nice to hear.

A really good MCR song from danger days is “save yourself, I’ll hold them back.” I think you’d like it, since it has the same MCR feeling with a bit of a different sound.

Ray Toro is the lead guitarist, and he also does the predominant backing vocals (he and Gerard sound ALOT alike when harmonizing, so if it sounds like Gerard doing both vocals, it's usually Ray doing the backing vocals). Pretty impressive, considering Ray is also doing all of those complicated riffs. Honestly, Gerard, Ray, Frank and Mikey are all extremely talented. They have all done things on their own, but they each bring something to MCR that makes it truly unique.

Man, this song has get me through so many hard times. It means a lot to me. The beginning full of thirst for revenge and giving the strength to come back from a dark place and then the ending, talking about how it's ok to be in dark place with "Ive lost my fear of falling" because I everytime I will fall I'll just come back better and stronger. I just love MCR. It's not just the music, but the lyrics are what make them unique too.

He does very much still have a voice. They had their renunion show just before covid hit. He also did an amazing cover of Hazy Shade of Winter with Ray Toro (My Chem Guitarist) which is pretty recent. They recorded it for Umbrella Academy on Netflix which is based on the comics Gerard wrote

His most recent song is “here comes the End ft. Judith Hill” most of his solo stuff is quite fuzzy/Brit pop-y but on his solo tour after my chem he very much still had a voice, for cleaner tones too

Three Cheers is a masterpiece of an album 🥰 also, I dunno if anyone’s told you, but every MCR album has an overarching story that the songs are based around. That may be why you got Black Parade vibes from this song, since there’s some similar story themes 😁 anyway, great reaction!! I just stumbled upon your channel today and you’re well worth a sub!

My explanation for that is when I listen to music I analyze the lyrics and so far this song has the most beautiful lyrics I’ve read in my life. Everything I have to say about this song is good.

I recently learned that this album is a concert album that tells the story of a man who died in a car crash and upon arriving to hell found out his wife survived and makes a deal with the devil where he has to send him 100 guilty souls in return for his life. The man agrees and it shows him slowly suffering from the burden of killing others for it. i think there’s more nuance that i’m unfamiliar with but another part of the fandom is welcome to flesh it out.
That's not really how it goes- the album is actually a continuation of a small plot point of the previous album. It revolves around two lovers (known as the Demolition Lovers) who are trapped in a town overrun by vampires. The woman is bitten and the man has to put a stake through her heart to kill her. He arrives to hell and makes a deal with the devil that if he brings it 1,000 souls, the devil will bring the woman back. However, the man finds out eventually that he will be the 1,000 soul for killing 999 people. This is actually the song that he realizes this. The breakdown starting around "This hole you put me in wasn't deep enough and I'm coming out right now" is the exact moment the man realizes what he must do, and that he'll never truly be with her again.
