  • Just before Holyrood closed for the summer, the SNP were blasted once again for problems for the redevelopment of Adrossan harbour
Delays still plague the harbour and the improvements needed to make sure new ferries can operate from the harbour and sail to Arran.

Listening to the latest SNP minister, you would think that we are still in 2016: the ferries have been very recently ordered and the project to upgrade the berths, for Glen Sannox, too big for existing facilities, is rushing full speed ahead in time for its delivery in 2018! Not a mention of years of bickering and infighting between all the parties about who is going to pay. Nothing about the delays in applying for planning nor that tendering still hasn’t happened, for a project said to take at least 21 months. And that’s with without mentioning £5 million, for a super expensive bunkering facility/ LNG tank. For just the £42m Ardrossan Harbour cost, in 2016 CMAL could’ve ordered 3 x MV Arthur type catamaran ferries for £14 million each - Instead they have already paid out more than £14 just to hire MV Alfred, whose owner must be laughing all the way to the bank. If the frrries are 6-7 years late, the Harbour can’t be ready until late 2026, even if a tender was signed tomorrow. Troon adds 45% time/fuel for the duration of the delay, with no practical/quick method of LNG fuelling.
