  • I’m Maria and I’m battling ovarian cancer. I recently received a port to make chemotherapy and blood draws easier for me. This is the first time it is being used for this process since my surgery.
See how the pier is accessed by the nurses and whether I’d recommend it.

My sister is fighting OC in Mass at DFCI and it’s been hard not understanding what she is going thru.. you are a beacon of education for my family. I’m sorry you both are going thru this. You are in my intentions and prayers. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

My best wishes for your sister’s recovery. As we are both treating at DFCI, perhaps our paths will cross someday. I am so thankful for the care I receive and truly believe that my best shot at beating this is at Dana Farber with my treatment team.

I Love to see how well you are handling every step of this journey, I’ve seen people use the lidocaine before, I’m pleased it worked for you 👍 xx

I’m so glad you got the lidocaine. I put mine on after shower, left on one hour, wiped it off and reapplied till they took it off at chemo. About two hours total. You could drive a truck through my chest and I wouldn’t feel it! Thinking of you! 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗

Grateful for the lidocaine tip. My friend starts her chemo on the 20th. I’ll make sure she has some. Hope you have a nice weekend.

I’m so happy that was helpful! We endure so much pain if it can be minimized or eliminated, it’s worth it.

I got my port before my first chemo along with lidocaine. Don’t forget to use it, it’s not comfortable without it.

Hello, Maria from Alaska! I am so happy you got Dr. Matalonis. She has spoken several times at our ovarian cancer organization here called "Let Every Woman Know." She is good friends with my Dr. Joanie Mayer Hope. All the very best to you! I was diagnosed in 2013 and am still in treatment. No pain, stable for the time being. Keep up the great attitude.....it goes a long way! Hugs....Mary

Maria it looks like the port will give you some relief that’s wonderful! Anything that causes less pain is great.I never had a port, I wish I had. But that was 17 years ago. Maybe things were different then, I know cancer treatments have come a long way since then for all kinds of cancer, hang in there hunny, god bless you 😀🤗🤗🤗🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🥰

I wish someone had told me about the lidocaine. I had my port removed quickly, because coming in to have it flushed was so painful and annoying. They put my port in during my mastectomy, so I really didn't notice any pain from it after surgery.
