Once upon a time, good acoustic amps were hard to find. These days, they’re not only plentiful. They sound better and they’re more feature-rich. In many cases, they’re also smaller and more affordable. Case in point: Boss’ Acoustic Singer Live-a 60-watt, 2-channel unit that’s about as compact as a record crate, and moves for just five hundred bucks.
The Acoustic Singer Live is little sibling to the 120-watt Acoustic Singer Pro. The Live version weighs only 23 pounds and measures about 14 1/2" x 10" x 12". Speakers are a 6 1/2" woofer and a 1" dome tweeter. With a dark wood veneer cabinet and coffee-colored grill cloth, it’s a smart-looking amp. It feels super rugged as well.
The Acoustic Singer’s control layout is clean and orderly. On the front control panel, knobs for the two channels are arranged in rows. The first channel features a combination XLR/1/4" input, switchable 48V phantom power for condenser microphones, and independent volume and EQ controls (bass, middle, and treble), plus an anti-feedback control. This channel also has its own delay/echo and reverb effect, plus a really cool harmonizer feature for vocalists. (More on that in a bit.)
The second channel has just a 1/4" instrument input. It has a similar control set as the first channel, apart from a swap of delay for reverb and an effect called acoustic resonance that adds body to the sound of an under saddle pickup. The master volume control works for both channels. There’s also a looper that can be activated from the amp or, more conventionally and easily, via an optional footswitch. There’s also a tweeter attenuation button that reduces high frequencies, and a mute button, for silencing the amp during string changes or tune-ups.

Brilliant demo, great version of 16 tons. Many Thanks.
Seriously, The Boss Acoustic singer Pro is just fantastic. I have the Pro singer and I am delighted and very happy with it. Fantastic sound and how sick that this amp can recognise guitar chords you play. It is amazing, built very well and has all the features. A score of 10 for me.
Please help me. Mine isn’t working and I’m sad
I didn't know John sang-and darn well! Nice performance at the top. Oh, and cool review demo.
You mention at the top that you are using the direct outs, but also that you've mic'd the amp (as we can see). What are we hearing? A mix of the directs and mic? It would have been great to hear just the mic'd amp at some point.
Awesome man! Nice review, great singing/playin!
yeah, I am totally getting this piece of gear...
Thanks John!
You play very well! Thanks for your demo
Just bought one...so damn good....the chorus effect is perfect...very subtle which is the way chorus should be...just a touch.. Boss really knocked it out of the park with this one. It is just...musical sounding.
Please help me
Reckon is can be loud enough for background music at a wedding? and is the quality decent enough or best for practicing? thanks buddy
This sounds great! And your singing was fantastic, your voice reminds me of Grayson Capps. Well done as usual sir!
Yeah. OK - you got me over the line. I went and test drove this today - along with my D20 Ashton and a Seymour Duncan Woody pickup (just bought). Was wondering how the pickup would go - so plugged in and tried a couple of amps. More than that. I put a deposit on the live 60watt Boss before I left. I loved the the tone - it grabbed me as soon as the strings were hit. You know when you know - right?
Anyone know if John has recorded 16 Tons and if so where I could download it? This is fantastic.
This is still great, no problems at all use it all the time. I use it for gigs, practice everything. It's as great as it was from day one.
What about a Foot Controller for the Boss Acoustic singer amp series?
Foot control for Guitar and Mic effects?
Great video. This is the final thing that swayed me in my choice, and I couldn't be happier. Thanks!
Great review , think this is going to be my next purchase
Great job John.
I’m picking this amp up soon for acoustic performances on You Tube. What gear where you using to record the review because it sounded great for the songs you sung. Thanks
Another great review by John. But when I buy the gear, I never sound as good as him 😄. Keep on trucking Hippy John.
Getting one of these babies in a week. Can't wait to try it out along with all of the tonal possibilities it provides
@OfficialModern gonna like it for sure. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, it hasn't been officially been delivered yet . I'm getting it thoroughly checked along with some other equipment to make sure it's completely functional and not having problems.
@OfficialModern Yup. It's actually gonna be delivered soon. I just have to pick a date. (Unless there are more complications).
Just got one a couple weeks ago, AWESOME. BIG SOUND, love it best amp I've ever bought. Great for solo performer sounds great.
Please help me
@@illuviium ?
Bo L. It works. I got it lol
@@illuviium awesome bro!
I definitely need this one some day 💜 I had a Fender Acoustasonic which I sold.
FilippaQ did you get one? like the built in looper, but it's only 40 seconds max
Just bought mine... best investment I’ve made since I first bought a looper for Acoustic coffeehouse style gigs
@@jonbarwick5946 What foot switch arrangement did you run with the amp for the looper? Or did you use your original looper with this amp?
Just got one of these. I HIGHLY recommend these! They're freaking great!
Nathan Thanks for the customer recommendation. Nice hearing it from someone who actually tried it. Lol
I have a question about the volume of the amp Nathan. I live in a high rise bachelor apartment. Do you think this amp would be too loud? I play acoustic fingerstyle guitar which is really quite quiet as far a volume levels go.
@@joa5739 it has a head phone jack sounds great too. It can go from really low to blasting as far as the speaker goes. Clarity is incredible.
They're great I like to get the bundle package and saved a lot of money from Kraft music I know I did
@@bol.8749 Thanks Bo. I've been doing tons of research on Acoustic Guitar Amps.
I know people reading this column are interested in these type of amps. So here is one of the nicest Acoustic Guitar Amps I heard. I've listened to many. This is the one I will probably get. Loads of options and Portable also. czcams.com/video/gbvDkUPgrDE/video.html
John held up two different Boss pedals: FS-SU and FS-5L. I don't understand as John didn't say how he was using them. Can anyone shed light on the pedals. I sure would love a demo for both pedals. Thanks!
one for loop, one for harmony (one for chorus...)
Wow, that is a nice little amp!!!
Nice pipes John!
Note that the volume and gain knob is very low !!! because if you increase you only hear hiss and feedback !!! and this has no control on this amplifier. I'll let you know until this is fixed, I don't want others to lose your money like me !!!
Sounded Great tested with pga 58 Mic and inexpensive Martin today Sold
ALL AROUND GREAT AMP...I LOVE IT...YOU CAD DO WHAT EVERY..,., floats your boat
Pretty cool, i Will Buy it!!!
Love that black Cole Clark!! @ColeClarkGuitarsAU
🔵 thanks ❕ great demo ❕
Chorus weirdos? Love it.
What pedal should i buy to control the looper? Gonna order tonight.
Just got this and it seems like when i record a loop it’s at a good volume but when i play over the recorded loop the lead is much lower in volume than the loop..is this normal?
Boss should throw in the foot pedal. If that did I would buy one !
Will someone do a GOOD shootout of acoustic "busking" amps/setups? (Calling all guitar channels!) Not just a beginner amp shootout, I mean like "that pedal show" style. Hour long vid of comparison between the top acoustic amps and the best tools (pedals etc.) for using the loops etc.
that does sound really good. I hadn't known guitars to sound good plugged in like that. But maybe's time. Can you recommend some really good electric acoustics?
Nice amp. Nice guitar too! I like that the amp has a looper and although I hate that BOSS loves to nickel and dime us it's going on my wish list.
danmar007 40 s no more 👎
Nice man!! That’s all I got.
I’m guessing we can pair that stereo with another guitar//bass amp speaker 4 stereo?
Harmoniser stopped working (Even with level up to full) There is a tiny bit but very faint, you can hardly hear it?
Any suggestions as to why this should suddenly stop working?
Can you pause what you've recorded on the looper then add it back in?
Yes. You tap the B button twice to stop and once to start. Considering you are using the pedal that comes with it.
Latching or non latching pedal?
#chorusweirdos
haha!
Great review. Looks like a really versatile one box solution for solo gigging.
Hola, ¿cómo haces los loops?
No_1, I used that you show too.
Is this better than fishman loudbox tonewise ?
I've been out of the loop..this is an excellent amp.
Can I get a good clean sound for my electric guitar?
How long is the looper?
Would I need a foot switch for each channel ? Ie one for 🎸 one for mic 🎙 ?
It didn’t come with any I brought the boss double switch pedal love it though great fun ,shame you can’t switch through the different vocal melodies
Can I use this without playing guitar?
Can I use the harmonizing effect just singing or do I need a guitar for the amplifier to harmonize with my voice?
* i’m learning guitar but for the most part I’ll only sing.
If not can you recommend an amplifier that a person who only sings can use that has many of the same features as this one?
Adale Jean-Noel then u can use any amp with echo/reverb if ur focus is vocals
The advantage of this is that it will provide harmonies based on what the instrument channel is playing.
No 3 part harmony option?
Boss Acoustic Singer Pro (or Live) Amplifiers vs Boss VE8 Acoustic Singer - Which is Better?
That's a million dollar question! Anybody? Trying to decide myself....
When I record a loop by pressing the button on the guitar amplifier, there is no problem in switching between the loops.
But when I start with the footswitch and record the time between loops, I wait about 1 second and then start again, which breaks the rhythm. What would be the reason?
I'm having the same problem did you ever figure it out?
Me too, it sounds the record never catch the rhythm
@@willwang455 Interestingly, the problem resolved on its own. Occasionally it happens again, but I couldn't find the reason.
Okay Boss, let's go ahead and spit out V2.
I'm getting this amp in two weeks and plan to use it for church once this pandemic ends. My church's maximum capacity is 175 people. Is 60 watts more than loud enough for all of them to hear?
yes definitley
What is the last song’s name you played in the end.
Grateful Dead-Friend of the Devil
Good to know about the pedal. The fact that Boss doesn't include a pedal so they can make an extra buck is enough to have me pass on this amp. BTW, don't blame John for bringing this issue up . . . . . . I would've asked anyway and then passed on it. Quit squeezing musicians Boss ! ! ! We all got hit pretty hard by the pandemic leaving us with no place to ply our trade. Trying giving us a break ! ! ! !
Cuanto es el valor
You may be a distant cousin of Steve Vai :) Just your mannerisms
What do you mean "the money is using it as a pre-amp and running it direct"?
Tim Gilbert He means using the amp between the guitar / voice and the desk / input as a direct output without relying on the actual speaker in the amp. This way you just use the brains of the amp and not the heart, which is a good way to get big sounds on the more affordable side of things.
👏
Instead of course they should have put a slapback delay
Too bad you can't do three part harmony on that.
Wich is the song's name?
16 Tons by Tennessee Ford
Why the shade for chorus loving people? lol
I know it sounds insane, but I think this model sounds better than the Mesa Rosette.
Definitely suited for the one man band (singer/player).
Chorus weirdos 🤣 sounds wicked 👍
how loud, could it suffice to play in a coffee bar
Perfect for a coffee house, I just used it onstage at a casino. It was direct out through the pa but onstage I had plenty headroom. I have the pro but it's only 3 more decibels.
Good one. Its also going to be way easier to carry around
@@bol.8749 so you have the pro and its 120 watts with 8 inch woofer and dome tweeter. You played at a Casino, fairly big venue
@@diesekaltewelt807 yes, we were through the mains but on stage I could hear myself great. Love this amp!
@@diesekaltewelt807 I will say the looper is tricky to get the hang of but they all are, I only use it at home though.
"if you're one of those chorus weirdos". hahaha.
ブラックのコールクラークの方が目立ってる(笑)
Reverb kills articulation and detail
C'mon man.
This demo sucked, especially vocals.
This demo is worthless. The mic in front of the amp goes to other speakers so we cant hear the one we would be buying.
I'm sorry, not just to hate on, but this cat is a horrible reviewer. Could he be any less enthused? Could he give more of a side eye diss to those who use certain features? "C'mon man. It's handy, if that's your thing." WTF?
