  • Here's an A/B/C/D/E/F comparison between all 3 preamp channels (mic'd and direct) of the Quilter Aviator Cub amp. Why? Because I have no time management skills.
    Here's the web comparinator tool described in the video:

    I’m super glad you actually DID do this comparinator!! I just got my Quilter Aviator Cub 2 days ago. Wow! I only play at home and guitar is not my first instrument. I have owned many Fender tube amps and I was just trying to simplify and not worry about the tube upkeep / or inherent noise. I’m kind of a nerd about noise. No it does not sound exactly like a tube amp but it is scary close and so much better than any modeled amp that I have owned (Katana, NexTone, etc.) It immediately put a smile on my face….and it’s quiet! Thanks for doing this.

    I just picked up this amp. I’m a fender tube amp guy. But wow, I got this amp and I’m blown away. I love it. It’s a must have, I just can’t say it any other way.

    Very interesting. Quilters voicings are fascinating. I usually set my amp one way eq wise and wind up choosing the preamp voice to fine tune in what room I'm in, and just tweak the gain. Quilters are incredibly convenient

    Fantastic comparison of the 3 channels. Great playing. I'm thinking two of these amps would kill for a stereo rig. Bravo!

    Great demo of this amp:) I picked up one of these amp used for an unbleivable price . The guy said it was too loud for him:) lol. I keep coming back to the blonde channel. It’s my fave. Awesome playing man:)

    Thank you for this video. I'm looking for a lightweight solid-state amp with good tone and especially a good direct out tone. Seems like the Cub might fit the bill. If anything, I'm surprised to find that I actually prefer the DI tones. The DI seems to smooth out some of the harshness that you can occasionally hear out of the blonde channel.

    Man that amp sounds sweet - Reminds me directly of playing through my 72 twin. I use a Boss Katana 50 in my studio and I'm pretty happy with that but that Aviator sounds incredible.

    Anthony - if you use an A B y - pedal can you use two of the inputs at same time without hurting the amp? I.e - use tweed and black inputs at the same time for a combined tone?

    Love this! Really on the fence as to this amp or going for the Fuchs Blackjack. I don’t have a tube amp, so I’m leaning towards the Fuchs. I still might trade in my Katana 100 mk I for the Quilter!

  • @deanallen927

    How come nobody discusses the Limiter knob on this amp? When you're directing this amp toward tube amp lovers, it sticks out like a sore thumb and it isn't even mentioned.

    • @dahag2996
      @dahag2996 Před 2 lety

      I have this amp.
      The limiter knob is extremely subtle... especially when the gain knob is in lower settings.
      Quilter had a good idea that could have been a bit more useful.

    The three preamp channels probably sound more distinctive in person than via my computer speakers. I say that because I can't tell the difference between them, at least not enough to make it worth changing from one to another. Other than that, the amp sounds killer, as does the guitar playing.

    As a science fan, I love this effort and we THINK we want to hear comparisons with all the variables eliminated and I've never seen it done better than this.....but here's why the scientific comparison isn't really as great as we think. I'm guessing in this one for instance, he has everything set up to the Blackface, then just flips between the voices and direct/mic switch. Maybe the Tweed would sound best with less bass or more mids, different mic placement, different cab, or whatever Anthony would have decided if he was just trying an amp with one voice for the first time. Same with the pedal settings, and same w/ even the playing because different tones inspire a person to play just a little bit different every time. Since the other two are Fender-ish voices too, it's not as big of a deal, but the point remains.
