  • We’ve been invited to cook and eat with the Lao Lanten, a hill tribe living in the remote mountains of North Laos, we feel honoured to be welcomed into their home and their village and have the opportunity to bring you guys along with us to share our experience having dinner with a Lanten family in their home and learning more about their unique culture and cuisine.
The Lanten (Yao Mun) are the indigo masters of Laos, in fact their name Lanten means 'those that dye cloth' in Chinese. They are also referred to as the Lao Huay, which means “Lao of the streams”. They migrated from China around one hundred years ago. There are only eleven Lanten villages in Laos. With a population of around 6,500, they are one of the smallest ethnic groups in the country.

From living in Cambodia, I know that many of these rural people have been brainwashed by media to think of themselves as poor… I’ve always tried to tell them that they’re actually quite rich.. close family, Skills to catch, cook all they need from nature. It’s these people who will survive a great financial collapse, too. When the power goes off, they will continue to thrive while “rich” people panic and perish. Here in USA and around the world, great change and suffering is coming at the hands of maniacal people who control life as we know it. I really admire indigenous, rural people who live beautiful lives. Good to see another video, I always enjoy your content. ❤

I myself am from Laos and I know too !!!! because if it is considered poor countries, then they receive not only humanitarian help from other countries, but also a privilege from the tax for the export of the country and therefore Laos does not want to get away from the so-called third world countries

100% agree with that, maybe they're not rich in the modern capitalist sense, but their life skills are more valuable than anything

Lanten people are ethnic Zhuang peoples, Zhuang are actually related to Lao people and came from the same regions in China before the Lao groups separated from their Zhuang cousins by migrating south a 1,000 years ago.

Wow!! You guys are really going in deep without knowledge about the tribe. But this tribes are seen as nice, very welcoming, and friendly.
Just be careful that Some Tribes are not welcome strangers into their village its better to have someone speak the language. The Lao of the High Mountains called Lao Sououng, living above 900m. Food whise are daily catch from jungle and there is no other ingredients use but only salt in their cooking.
