      Not gonna lie... East Coast has the best food, IMO. I live in Dallas now but man... I miss the NYC food.. We dont have the authentic hole in the wall great spots like this here. 😪✌️

      @@Kyohan137: I started coming to Newark in the late 80’s. The people I was hanging out w/ @ that time swore by Ms. Dee’s & John’s. Which I have to say was pretty good. So they never mentioned anything else (lol). There was this breakfast & Lunch place on Bloomfield Ave we use to go to as well. I forget the name, but it only opened from 5am - 2:00pm. It was very small, stayed packed and the breakfast was pretty good.

      I grew up in Newark NJ, Columbus Homes Projects, I remember Dickie Dee’s, great memories, but, cholesterol made the food taste great, but bad for the heart.

      @@haamidsharif4974 my mom and damn near my whole family lived in Columbus Homes…I grew up most of my life up the hill in the Colonnades but I lived in the projects on Prince st and in Georgia King Village as well

    I like how this video started with a bit of a street vibe totally fit for Newark on the outside, but in the restaurant it went into that soft chill relaxing vibe when the food was being made. Just a nice little journey through out. This video is JL firing on all cylinders!

    I’m from Newark, NJ and I grew up down the block from this spot!! Me and my best friend would go all the time. Back then they even had a Street Fighter 2 arcade cabinet so we would get some Italian Hot Dogs and a slice of pizza and play some Street Fighter..! Keep up the good work!!

    Great video. Great narrative and shots of storefront in and out as well as their iconic double Italian hotdog. I was only 2 years old in 1958 when this place was established so it seems to me like this institution has been around forever. Love that they kept the old school look both inside and out. Worth a try for sure.

    I grew up in Newark, use to go to a spot on branford Place when I was a teenager. Always ordered the dbl dog to go and would go to the movies. I haven't eaten meat in fifty years but watching made my mouth water. BTW my mom's house is six blocks away on 6th Avenue.

    I’m from The Brick City Newark and when you went to Jimmy Buffs, many of us said you have to go to Dickie Dees.
    Jimmy Buffs is more “famous” but to us from Newark, DD was our spot.
    Thanks for sharing our little secret to the world.
    Next time try the combo (one hotdog and one sausage). The contrasting flavors is something else.

    Welcome to the Bricks. That’s my old block. They’re a Newark staple. I prefer the combo sandwich, which is the same but it’s a hotdog and sausage in the sandwich. Great bbq spot across the street as well. And also a great bakery right there too Calandras.

    I am from Newark born and raised. I was a Newark Public Schools Teacher and First started substitute teaching at Abington Avenue School in the same area up the street from Dickey Dee's. I used to buy their Italian hot dogs which are the best. I now live in Surprise, Arizona and miss Dickie Dee's hot dogs. I hope they open one here in Surprise, AZ. I had my daughter to ask well known food sampler and influencer to stop by and sample the food especially the hot dogs. He will put in a good word for Dickie Dee's that will give your business a huge boost and greater coverage in customers. I miss the food there.

    NJ Pizza bread is totally legit. A cheesesteak made Wit that bread is next level. Steaks Unlimited in Seaside Heights uses this types of bread. I’ve never seen it further south than that.

    Great Video! The bread is called "Pizza Bread" the double dog is put on 1/2 pizza and the single on a 1/4 pitz. The come from Calandra'a Bakery next to Dickie Dee's. What makes the Newark and New York City Bakery Breads so exceptional is the water. Both have upstate ressivors the supply pristine water.

    As a Newark NewJersey native I can honestly say their food is spectacular!! Every time I go home I go to Dickie Dees before I leave!! As a kid we used to hustle, carrying groceries, picking up cans and bottles…just to get enough money to buy a double hotdog 😂😂 so good!! Sabrett hotdogs are the best!!

    I’m from Elizabeth, NJ neighboring Newark and seeing this review 🙌🏽
    Those breads are typically called pita 🥙 breads (pocket ones). In Elizabeth at Tommy’s famous hotdogs next to Jerry’s famous hotdogs they make combos with fresh Italian sausage/beef hotdogs and of course potatoes and onions and green peppers.

      @@b1k2q34 Dominic is correct, it's Pizza Roll. If you want to make your own Italian Style sandwich, Calandra Bakery in Newark or Gencarelli Bakery in Bloomfield have the best Pizza rolls.

    I found this place it's not that far from me. Well, the hot dog did have that awesome snap, the potatoes were not hard, nice, the bread was nice❤ I finished before I got home.😅And yes it was a single, just enough.😊Thanks JL & Dickie Dee!

    Been to Dicky Dees a ton when I worked in Newark. I always preferred Jimmy Buffs. They slice their potatoes instead of cubes. A bit greasier but oh so good

    Back in Nutley NJ in the late 40s we called it pizza bread. I'm now in Fl and we ain't got nuttin' like it. Thanks for bringing back the memories. I know how much you are enjoying it! I made franks and onions and peppers and potatoes for dinner tonight so I have not forgotten my heritage. No bread, though.

    I grew up eating Dickie Dee’s hot dogs. Then when I was about 17 or 18 I switched to their Italian sausage. I left Newark decades ago and moved to Florida. There’s nothing like Dickie Dee’s here, or anywhere else. I miss it.

    Hey JL this is Kev a Barber from Philly, my old client Jamal opened a new shop. You have to checkout a FIRE SPOT. In Pottstown, Pa called The UnderDog. Specialty hot dogs/ hot sausages examples like Philly cheesesteak dog, Taco Dog , Ruben Dog, and Seafood french fries etc. It's a nice little shop.

    I am from the Midwest, we have mostly bland food and chain restaurants. When I moved out east the mom and pop shops were incredible and I also gained 20 pounds out east lmao 😂
