One of my favorite capture devices is my cell phone camera. While having my weekly review I look at my photos. For example while mowing the lawn and I run across an item that needs to be fixed I just pull out the phone take a picture of the item and continue on.
BUY THIS BOOK!!! i did, years ago and although my system has subtle (minor) differences to the one summarised here, I have absolutely relied on it ever since. The hardest part is listing absolutely every little task, job, project, actions and anything else on your mind or in your tray, but once done, the clarity and sharp sight that comes from a cleared mind is priceless. Now every single time a new task, idea, thought or challenge comes my way it gets processed instantly and can be forgotten about until review or an action demands further action or if anything becomes urgent. The joy of having a record of the things you have completed is a fantastic by product, especially when things don't quite go as planned or a simple task starts a chain reaction that leads into a rats nest. This book saved my mind!
This is a superb resume of Getting Things Done and summarises it's core ideas perfectly. I bought this book in 2007 and it has totally transformed both my work and home life. My own version of the frequent task review may not be weekly and sometimes not even monthly but I have total dominion over every single item demanding action. Some items on my list are still there from 2007 but cause me little worry because they still get acted upon, reviewed or knocked off the list if they become overtaken by events. The relief from stress of having a place holder for every single thing of importance, big or small, cannot be overstated. I use a 'can I do this in less than five minutes' as oposed to the two minutes suggested in the book as this seemed to work better for me. This is a great review and I seriously believe anyone who wants to manage a multitude of seemingly overwhelming tasks as effectively and efficiently as possible should buy this book.
Can’t recommend this book enough. The beauty of the GTD system is that it’s just that: a system. If you get the 3 core principles of capture, process, and review down, there are limitless ways to personalize and execute. For the longest I used digital apps and formats but I found it to easy to ignore sometimes. This year I’ve combined GTD with a Bullet Journal and I’m loving the transition to analog and I’m back to stress free productivity!
Excellent Video! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you tried - Sanailey Inconceivable System (search on google)? It is a good exclusive product for getting the success you deserve using this proven betting system minus the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my old buddy Taylor finally got astronomical success with it.
I read the book twice and implemented it. When I did, I felt I processed things that didn't matter to me, so your suggestion at 3:40's a new key for me. "Do I want to act on this?" No? Someday/Maybe it.
Great review man! Clear and concise. This might is the best summary I've seen in a while(and I watch a lot).Next book on my list added :)You have awesome channel. Keep up the good work.
FINALLY! You explained it clearly and concisely. My GTD book is still in the mail so this has really helped me get a head start. Really appreciate it. No other video has managed to do this for me thus far. It finally "clicked". 10/10
I just want to say this is a great video you've made. I've listened to many if your other videos every time I'm showering. This one stuck out to my and grabbed my attention a little better than the others because of the faster music and the way you spoke with your variations in speed, rhythm, and intonations etc. I just wanted to acknowledge that and think your doing a great job with these valuable videos on self improvement. The music could maybe be lowered a point or two tho. Cheers!
Getting things done * Your mind is for having ideas, not holding them * 3 vital habits of a trusted system (GTD (Getting things done) system) are Capturing, Processing and Reviewing 1. Capturing: write things down, including ideas, tasks, goals etc etc. Just release the pressure of holding things in your mind 2. Processing: make time each day (a specific time of the day) to ask yourself questions about the things you captured Questions to ask when processing: - Do I want to do this? No -> put it off for another day or not important list Yes -> ask what the next action is of this particular thing you want to do. - What will the outcome be? If the outcome requires more action to take then you can add this thing you want to do to a project list - Am I able to complete this in 2 minutes or less? Yes -> do it right away! No -> put it in one of the three lists: calendar: if it's time specific next actions list: if not time specific follow up list: if not enough information about it yet, so u need to wait If the next action list has more than 30 items, split it into different chunks (f.e. a next action list for home tasks, office tasks etc etc) 3. Reviewing: ask yourself what your 3-5 years vision is. Ask yourself what projects most contribute to your 3-5 years vision. Which next actions are critical for your vision? Update calendar, next action list, project list and follow up list and clean up unnecessary tasks/ideas.
I doubt anyone will read my comment 4 years later, but revisiting this video now I wanted to share a quick hack. In the shower, if you have blank walls(especially an easily cleaned surface), you can use a china marker or grease pencils to take notes on your walls. (EDIT: Also, to clean it off, just use dawn dish soap and non-scratch scotch-brite)
Video really well made! You are right. To relax mind there is no short cut. Being practicing for years I appreciate your summary in this clear, concise manner
Thanks. I'll probably have to re-watch the processing section to absorb it - that's where I usually get stuck! For posterity, this video has approx. 99% upvotes in 2021
Good job Nathan, you managed to present the ideas in a very short, effective and simple way. Please keep doing what you do and accept my best wishes of success.
my system is much more rudimentary. calendar app. note app with page/category options. faith. good vibes. positive thought reward and negative thought redirection habits. positive thinking is it's own reward. get addicted to the healthy brain chemicals not the unhealthy ones. just relax and enjoy life. if I'm late, I just accept the fact I'm going to be late and I don't rush myself, instead I deal with how to turn my lateness to success and how to avoid lateness tomorrow. do one thing at a time and carry pen and paper for the stuff I'll get to when I'm not busy with the thing. get sleep and take melatonin if I can't sleep. that's my book. wishing everyone well. have a nice day.
hi i am a big fan of your work and i have subscribed to your emails. I have a request for you ,can you make a database for all the summary pdfs of all the books in one place so that the subscribers to your email have all the summaries in one place ? the reason i am requesting bcz everytime i watch a older video i have to write my email again and again to get the pdf. If you can kindly make a database for all the pdfs in one place it would be better. Sorry for bad english.
I have a shitty memory so I always write down my ideas and tasks. And with asana.com I can do it quickly and conveniently organize and reorganize it. So basically I did all this before knowing about GETTING THINGS DONE by David Allen.
Isn't this book enlarged version of "Zorro Cicle" mentioned in the book "The Happiness Advantage : How a Positive Brain Fuels Success in Work and Life by Shawn Achor" ? I find many of these self help or business books overlap each other many a times.
Hi there, thank you for this video!! Can you create a flow chart that present this workflow and can be downloaded? or refer me to one? or to a tool that allows to create one?

The music sounds like I'm about to watch a how-to/diy home carpentry project video
lol You hit the nail on the head
The bullet journal really helps accomplish all of this.

Just brain-dumped 15 items on a text doc. The relief is felt instantly :) Book added to wishlist on audible.
One of the best business/self-help books out there. TFS
Video really well made! You are right. To relax mind there is no short cut. Being practicing for years I appreciate your summary in this clear, concise manner
That's the best summary I found on the web for this book.
Now makes me feel I must read the book right away.
Great Channel!
Currently reading the book and needed to see where it was all going and if it was worth finishing. This video has been incredibly helpful thank you!!
Next level planning, love it!
Wow, you do great summaries man. Thank you.
It’s wonderful how ... rereading it gives new ideas
thank you for the thorough details of the book and process. very much appreciated

Thank you!
rather than reading the book and get the message by myself your channel helped me save time on reading thanks man i enjoy the video
If you like it this video then I suggest reading the book.
same as Gmansi, Summaries like these are awesome, especially for before or after reading the book, but nothing will replace the actual book itself.
+Elliott Diaz I read the book again once a year. The book itself need and updated version, about apps and more, but the principles are valid
Exactly, read before to know whats the book about and what to focus on
This video is the best ever explanation of GTD that I have ever found, thank you so much mate, and all the best!
Thank you for posting
I’ve been a GTD adherent for years. The best I’ve found.

That was a cool review but Please don't put music in the background, it's unsettling and distracting... ❤️

Great job, lot of work has gone in to creating these, so thank you, kill the background music, makes it difficult to absorb content as it’s too loud 😬
Thanku❤
brilliant
Thanks, i let all the ad run.
Any recommended tools or apps that support both PC or Phone to support this habit?
Hi! Try Todoist. It's modelled around GTD, and you'll find lots of info online on how to use it for GTD (Getting Things Done)
tnx for the great summary!
btw could you name the app(s) you use for gtd?
Awesome

What software is used to create such cool videos?
Read this book, shit was so elaborate, I stood no chance of ever doing this. Like I couldn't devise a more complex system if I wanted to.
Man you're awesome! Your content is great! Keep up the good work!
P.S. friendly advice: stop using your face drawings. They are beyond lousy :-D
Fantastic
How do you re-read your books and what is your method of taking down notes?
