    The martyrs of Soviet Union died in this campaign were honoured in the red army graveyard in northern China. These souls will be honoured forever as of our fallen brothers although they are foreigners. As Chinese traditions the deceased heros' graves are sacred and honourable as the pride of this country. We(Chinese) shall never doing despicable things like Polish, Czech, Baltics has vandalizing the red army graveyards and pulling down red army statutes. Instead we honoured them as what history has written.

      The T's were crossed and the I's dotted at the Potsdam conference and Uncle Joe kept his promise in Manchuria. Potsdam was also when the first Atomic test took place. The USA announced to the Soviets and the other Allied leaders that they held an ace after the successful test detonation. Apparently Joseph Stalin when informed of this success replied "We already know about that" Was Uncle Joe playing "poker face" or did the Soviets actually, genuinely know about the Atomic test?

      It was about the only thing he kept kept his word on the whole time he partnered with the allies. It was what ultimately ended the war, as there was no way the Japs wanted to fight the Russians. As brutal as the Japanese soldiers were to the Chinese the Russians were 10 X's worse towards the Germans and anyone they came across.

    Soviet army victory against Japan prior to WWII was of great importance. It resulted in a non-aggression treaty with Japan, allowed Soviets to fight only on one front against Germans and bring east located troops to the western front.

      While yes the Soviets claimed a victory the truth is a bit different. The Soviets claimed they killed 70,000 Japanese when in reality at Khalkin Gol there were about 1,000 Japanese officers and 20,000 Manchurian soldiers. Japan also had no supply support from Tokyo in this battle. The Soviets Outnumbered Japan 3:1 but still managed to lose their entire army.
      Both sides had lost their armies in this battle with no resupply in sight. Its a tie at best. This is why the non aggression pact was pretty equal in its terms.
      The Soviets vastly underestimated the Japanese here, especially hardened Japanese aviators with your average pilot having destroyed plenty of Chinese pilots already. Iirc one Japanese pilot took down 11 Soviet aircraft in one day, making some record at the time.
      But of course when August 1945 rolled around the situation for Japan was bleak. The most inexperienced soldiers would be stationed in Manchuria and the most experienced stationed at either the homeland or the Japanese islands in preparation for an American offensive. At this point in time hardly any food or ammo was getting to the soldiers in Manchuria. Without any armor or aircraft support this was an easy task for even the most incompetent armies to sweep Manchuria

    The Soviet Union declaring war on Japan was as big if not a bigger motivating factor for Japan's surrender as the A bomb. Though the Red Army smashing Japan's forces in Manchuria was a nasty surprise the Soviet invasion of south Sakhalin island followed by the invasion of the Kuril islands was a nastier and more threatening surprise since it brought Soviet forces within striking distance of Hokkaido. The last thing the Emperor wanted was Japan invaded by the Bolsheviks. Similar to the Germans when the situation was accepted as truly hopeless far better to surrender to the Americans than the Soviets.

    • @marishiten5944
      @marishiten5944 Před 8 měsíci +1

      1.) I don't think you understand that the USSR was war weary and had a HUGE depletion of manpower after Germany surrendered. It would be difficult for them to just redeploy against mainland Japan.
      2.) Japan's surrender was 100% because of the atomic bomb. They had no means to protect against them and they worked A LOT better than when Americans firebombed Tokyo and killed tens of thousands.
      3.) Dude, the USSR would still have to deploy and island hop. It'd be a problem.
      4.) Hokkaido was split down the center with the northern half being Russian and southern Japanese. This happened after the Japanese defeated Russia in the Russo Sino war. So there was already a Russian presence on the island, just not a big one.
      5.) Yeah. surrender to the Americans. Where they occupy your land, pillage, steal, murder, then ban your culture, heritage, and customs while forcing you to adopt "western sensibility". Far better, huh?

    • @anthonycruciani939
      @anthonycruciani939 Před 8 měsíci +6

      @@marishiten5944 No historian would agree with you that Japan's surrender was 100% due to the A bombs that's just not supported by the facts. After Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima there was no reaction at all from the Japanese to the surprise and astonishment of the US political leadership who expected their new wonder weapon to cower the Japanese to surrender. Why should the Japanese be shocked that another city was ravaged by bombing after all of their major cities had already been decimated by B-29 bombing raids? The fact that secondary cities Hiroshima had Nagasaki were targeted tells you how devastating the US bombing campaign had been. There were no intact primary Japanese cities left to target with A bombs. That it took only one aircraft vs 400 to devastate a city was meaningless to the Japanese they'd already become desensitized by the US's massive bombing campaign. And Operation Meeting House the fire bombing of Tokyo Mar 9-10 '45 that you marginalize was the single most destructive bombing raid in human history. It obliterated 16 square miles of Tokyo and killed over 100K civilians, far more people than either of the A bombs initial death tolls. As for the Soviet invasion threat to Hokkaido it would have been a difficult amphibious campaign for them but the Japanese probably didn't know Soviet capabilities very well so they perceived it as a real threat. Also all available Japanese military resources were being sent south to reinforce Kyushu which is where they knew the Americans were planning to invade in their operation Downfall so Hokkaido was lightly defended Aug '45. Also the Soviets and Japanese both occupied Sakhalin island not Hokkaido as you mentioned. Your take on this part of WW2 history is not supported by the facts.

      @@anthonycruciani939 By the time the atomic bombs were dropped , Japan was already defeated. It was only a matter of time before they would have surrendered. The US submarine blockade was starving the country by the day. US air power ran rampant over Japanese cities destroying one after the other. As you said correctly the firebombing raid on Tokyo in March was more destructive than the nukes. The Kwantung army by August was a shell of its former self, as all of its best equipment and men had been sent to the Pacific and had been annihilated.
      The atomic bombs had a duel purpose: First - to warn the Russians the US could and would prevent them from advancing any further west in Europe. Second - to hasten the surrender of Japan, to prevent a potentially horrific invasion of the Japanese mainland.

Whey Britain, France, and The USA donated those territories to the Japanese empire... these territories were not inside Britain, France, and the USA borders. Also, they weren't satellite vassals of them ? Before WW2, several internal Balkan region conflicts and beast Genocides occurred . However, it's fortunate that the opponent we lost to was the U.S. If it had been the Soviet Union, Japan might have become a communist country, and thinking about being called "comrade" or something like that, I truly think it's a good thing we lost to America.

    Soviet attacked Japan in the Manchuria only after the second atomic bomb exploded. Stalin knew that Japan would surrender very soon. He had to move his army into Manchuria quickly to take up the power vacuum after Japan surrendered. It was a land grasping act, not an effort to end the war. This point has to be clarified. Later the Soviet helped the Chinese Communists establishing basis in Manchuria with captured Japanese weapons. That gave the communists enough power to start a full scaled Chinese civil war.

      wrong, Russia had started the invasion before the first bomb had even been dropped. Japan convened an emergency meeting between the Shogunate and Emperor about the disastrous defeat of their forces in Manchuria and didn't even learn about the second bomb until it was already underway. The ultimate surrender of Japan which is actually corroborated by many Japanese historians was the Soviet invasion and not the atomic bombs.

      Where did you read your history?? You COULD NOT be more wrong! The atomic bombs were dropped because of the predicted American deaths of one million soldiers to invade and conquer the mainland. The Marines had suffered terrible casualties nowhere near 1 million dead at Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and President Truman and everybody else involved were not prepared to lose that many men. Prime Minister-but really dictator-Tojo had no intention of surrendering, so whatever you thought about August 6 is wrong. The Emperor didn’t intervene after the first atomic bomb, but did after the second, and insisted that Tojo accept the Allied terms of surrender. Tojo was forced to back down, and the Emperor made a recording which was to be broadcast on August 14, 1945, but a group of 1000 Imperial Army officers and soldiers committed an unprecedented invasion of the Palace grounds to find and destroy the recording because they thought surrender was unacceptable, regardless of the terms. They were effectively dealt with, and the broadcast went ahead. The fact that 2 devastating bombs had to be dropped, in addition to the tons of incendiary bombs which had been dropped prior to that is more than enough evidence to tell you that *THE JAPANESE MILITARY AND PEOPLE HAD NO INTENTION OF SURRENDERING TO THE ALLIES.*
