AIMP for music and VLC for everything else...VLC does a ton of other things all buried away in menuse, screen capure, format converters, streaming etc etc

Came to the comments to suggest AIMP as well. I loved it flashing the Artist - Track across the top of the screen when it switched tracks, as well as it feeling very similar to winamp.

Tag Editor; Sound Recorder; Online Radio; Equalizer; Radio Recorder; Skins; Plugins and more.
And only 23k kb of the RAM ;). Actually depends from extension (FLAC;MP3) and kbps (320 or 1000~1030)

if you listen to music with large libraries the only replacement for wmp is wmp. i've been researching this for YEARS. ooohhh but, foobar and amp blah blah blah. i think i'm gonna make a video on WMP does some very serious and needed things that NONE of the the other media players do out of the box.

Awesome video as always. I personally wouldn't recommend iTunes based on the personal information it's proven to send to Apple. VLC is the best for me music organization may be a bit lacking but the software is light, highly customizable and there's no a single format of media file I haven't seen it play. Back in the day, I used to use Media Player Classic, but it was somewhat easily corruptible and even the most complete versions lacked codecs.
BTW, best music player ever was Sonique. I hope I'm not the only one who remembers it. It was awesome beyond words.

It's end of June Saturday 6/29/24 end of June 2024 and there was too much of a selection for me to choose from. Making a decision is important, so I need 3 things, 1 = can I use it on all my computers or do I have to pay for a license on each computer, 2 = can I use older 20+ years older mp3 collections without getting copyright strikes which I don't get using VCL media player and 3 = what is the simplest and always updated player

I don't know how many people still rip their music cds, but that's my main reason for continuing to use Windows Media Player, and the only one on this list that would be a suitable replacement is Media Monkey. Clementine Music player on the other had is completely free and available for both Windows and Linux.

I haven’t used windows media player in about 15 years and I pretty much stream everything now and remember many hours wasted ripping discs to iTunes in the early 2000’s glad those days are over!
I do wonder how long these types of software will exist for I imagine Apple wants to transition iTunes into more of an Apple Music app.

Which of the current new ones is the most similar to Winamp? I'm very used to that simple format of having the player up in the corner when maximized instead of a full screen format full of features as I always used Winamp just for audio and other players for any video related stuff. As it is discontinued maybe it's time to move on to another one I guess 😆

I've been using Windows Media Player for years and years, but it's now got this really annoying weird bug where it stops playing after 2-3 songs. Really annoying!
Groove seems to actually be pretty decent nowadays.
My main gripe with most players, like Foobar, MusicBee, PotPlayer, etc, is that they just don't seem to be designed for people with a large music library, or else you have to fiddle with, and customise them, for hours, to get them set up so that you can see albums\artists\art properly, without squinting at the screen.
For some reason I always uninstall iTunes in anger, but I can never remember why.

Now since Microsoft downgraded the metadata provider, many of us who were using it for years, are looking for something similar and there is non and I tested almost all, pity and very disappointed.

Either 'VLC' or 'Media Player Classic' are the way to go for casual use. By casual, I am speaking of way less than the 300,000+ tunes I have use of. I assume MOST folks think they have a TON of tunes when they collect around a thousand or so... MAYBE up to 10,000.
If you don't mind using 'bloat ware', which lugs your system down most times, then by all means use 'iTunes' for a large collection. IMHO, this is the worst piece of software for your music needs. 'WinAmp' is MUCH better, and FASTER. It may take a while to COLLECT & CATALOG my 300,000+ tunes, but once done, it is great to use.
I also have 'MediaMonky', and think it is VERY useful. Main reason I stick with 'WinAmp' are all of the plugins I have accumulated over the years. My fave is one that allows for changing both pitch/key AND speed, making it GREAT for karaoke use!

Anyway Winamp or Mediamonkey for me now. Edit: the storesystem i kinda Real bad with mediamonkey and the management with folder and deleted folders and same named files -its so bad it sucks - I guess i will use old windows xp or older for music -win 10 hides the files on several places and now have removed some out of my knowledge - I guess im not admin and monkey is outdated. 30/11 -18 - i dont have time for this -i rather install a old os than jerk with monkey and win 10.

Mp3 cant compete unless its done in vbr not cbr which is 128/160 /192 and those . MPC can compete sometimes and Ogg above 420kps .On some music again vbr at +202kps - ACC cant compete since is sounds a cold cold mp2 recording - WMA works only for trumpets and horns + jazz , MP4 sucks the m4a might do but fails a female voices at the high of kps 224 . I heard of lossless mp3 but never heard any file or seen a softwareplayer . Flac is ok Ape also . I would listen vinyl over cd since more natural.

AOL stopped Winamp development a few years back. I think the original developer is behind Reaper.

I love WMP....burning discs from CZcams stripped MP3...illegal yes - used to work now I have problems - I have made 100's of CDs of songs before....If there was a paid Windows service like iTunes where I pay and own the song I would buy from it weekly.....I hate Spotify and I am not going to rent songs. I had a "Australian Service" years ago refund me $250 when I was previewing songs and They wrongfully said I bought the song.

1:05 - I like the name of PotPlayer. Stoners might be disappointed though if they think it does something else. Trust Microsoft though, they tried Zune, didn’t work, Groove is terrible yet MS wants us to use it. Ha ha! Good luck Redmond. I think I’ll stick to my VLC Player thank you.
