  • Southern Pacific’s picturesque Shasta Route was the main artery of SP traffic north of Roseville California to the Pacific Northwest. For decades, Mount Shasta created the perfect marketing piece for SP’s passenger services, and even today, countless photos of Amtrak’s Coast Starlight include the imposing mountain in the background. TrainSimulations Shasta Route is a mid-1990’s representation of SP’s final years in the Pacific Northwest before their merger with Union Pacific. This single track mainline hosted countless manifest trains carrying everything from California produce to forest products from the Pacific Northwest, as well as numerous intermodal trains. The steep climb north from Dunsmuir, as well as tight curves makes for challenging mainline operations. A large amount of SP power and rolling stock are included, and for the passenger train enthusiasts, a mid-90s Amtrak Coast Starlight consist is also included.
