Wonderful performance. This orchestra's videos consistently have the best audio of any live performances on CZcams.
And the best performances. This is a remarkable orchestra, that rivals even the very top ensembles.
I just love the Firebird, and the music of Stravinsky. To me the ending of this piece has to be the most powerful music ever composed in the history of classical music. Thank you so much for uploading this. The conductor and orchestra can be very proud of this outstanding performance. I just know Stravinsky would have been very proud. All I can say is, I enjoyed it immensely. Love this channel.

Beautiful playing Theo Plath, bassoonist.
Hypnotic. Would love to be there to experience live.
Beautiful playing by the musicians of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony under the very capable baton of Maestra Susanna Mälkki--Bravi tutti!

Pure, transparent and refreshing sound. On the other hand, the rich and colorful sound is very beautiful. This suite, conducted by Susanna Malkki is a superb Firebird in every way. The natural performance expression that is consistent and consistent from beginning to end, without rushing or exaggerating, is truly wonderful.
Thank you so so much! Akihiro Nakai from Japan.
This piece hac brought me to joyful tears many times in my life, and this wonderful performance certainly did so here. Now I just need another box of tissues for my desk ...
THANK YOU STRAVINSKY!!! My favorite composer 😁
I am an admirer of Susanna Mälkki and also of this orchestra, and this rendition is a Wonder, one of the best interpretations I ever heard. Warm thanks!
She reminds me very much of Marin Alsop - although Mälkki is younger (and taller, I think). There's a facial resemblance, but more significantly, her conducting style is virtually identical (although, of course, I have no idea of their respective approaches to rehearsal).
I prefer Mälkki to Alsop. Her interpretations have the clarity and thoughtfulness of Haitink.
It was in Sibelius second symphony I discovered Susanna Mälkki. To me she has all the authority and the precision that is needed.
Merci!
Hervorragende Musiker eines tollen Musikstück, sehr souveräne Dirigentin!😊
The Firebird was one of the pieces I loved most in youth orchestra, and this is the definitive performance to my mind. There are so many highlights here, but my favorite ones are the astounding rhythmic clarity in the Infernal Dance, Theo Plath's beautiful bassoon solo and the magnificent ending (the cymbals at 21:10 are simply breathtaking). All I can say is thank you for all the incredible performances that you share with us, I'm looking forward to finally hearing you live this year.
Outstanding performance - takes my breath away
Excellent!!!! Thank you for sharing, I’m in the US.
Walter Jonathan Ale.
What a masterpiece, the part from 14:45 onward, in particular, is absolutely magical, goosebumps every time.
The thing I like best about this orchestra is that it has class.
Glad to see them performing this again! Also an interesting transition at 18:00!
Perfect ❤
10:13 AAAH!
Bravo maravilhoso 💘😻😻😍💗
I have thought about Fire Bird compared to Rite of Spring. When played the first time Fire Bird was a success, but Rite of Spring was a complete scandal. Still, with its more modest expressions, Fire Bird is like a preparation for Rite of Spring. I like them both. And I find this version of Fire Bird just exquisite!
Created on June 25, 1910 at the Paris Opera, The Firebird preserves the memory of one of the greatest triumphs of the Ballets Russes. The Firebird is inspired by several Russian tales of which it retains the marvelous character and, for a Western audience, strongly exotic. Here is the argument: the valiant Ivan Tsarevich succeeds in seizing the Firebird and releases it in exchange for a gold talisman. Arrived in front of the enchanted domain of Kastchei which holds thirteen princesses prisoner, he risks being transformed into stone by the magician. The Bird then comes to his aid and reveals where the egg containing Kastchei's soul is hidden. Ivan steals it and breaks it then, while the Bird disappears in all its splendor, we must finally find Tsarevna, the most beautiful of princesses who makes his heart beat. On this libretto that he had edited, Michel Fokine created a notably inventive choreography. In Stravinsky's music we recognize the very strong influence from his teacher Rimsky-Korsakov as well as certain kinships with Glinka or again Scriabin. But this avant-garde young composer already manifests himself in the oppositions of timbres, the shimmer of the instrumentation. Stravinsky chooses to differentiate the elements of the action. The human element is represented by diatonic themes, while the magical element is associated with chromatic arabesques of an oriental character. From this partition, Stravinsky derived three orchestral suites. The innate virtuosity of Igor Stravinsky reveals already his poetic genius. *Lucien*
Nice to read the story behind this Firebird. I have always thought of it as just music, but wonderful music.

Music is like life: it has its own story. It is indeed wonderful music that reveals the full potential of Igor Stravinsky to come. *Lucien*
Eccezionale io lo ho suonato diverse volte come prima viola
Standing ovation from here in the US!!
👏👏👏

Reminds me of Holst hammersmith upfront
Though "The Firebird" is often uncharitably categorised as the young and brilliant Stravinsky being "more Rimsky than Rimsky himself", there are pieces where you hear the fully organising, and dazzlingly original, and orchestrally highly innovative voice of the same musician who, within a few years, had written Petruska and the Rite of Spring.
The "Round Dance of the Princes", and the "Infernal Dance Of King Kashchei" are the best of Stravinsky's always titanic genius.
The first because it conveys Stravinsky's uniquely synthetic Paris-St Petersburg blending of the sacred and the unrestrainedly sensuous and erotic.
The second because it demonstrates a blindingly brilliant command of rhythm and orchestral timbres that seems to run all the way from Tchaikovsky, to Dvorak, to Rimsky and into the modernism of Bartok, Hindemith and Honegger.
That is arguably the truest touchstone of front-rank genius. Psyche-expanding originality, which is simultaneously being expounded by limitlessly commanding and infallible technique.
As if the artist was feeding upon and digesting everything already known, and saying something completely original at the same time.
Only by having direct access to our transcendental and womanly collective consciousness, with its inconceivably rich psychical and elaborative and sensuous and frankly erotic resources - only then is this possible.

😂
Music should bestow greatness and cleanse the human’s soul and infuses love, beauty and glory to soul. The contents and verse of the music should be a creator of pure love, greatness, lightness and depth and not corruption, meanness and absurdity. This is true music. 💛💕

Wahrlich wunderbar!

I hope the keyboardist got the doubling fee.
I am glad that Stravinsky's genius has nothing to do with today's Russia.
Classial music is boring... Stravinsky: 10:13
Fantasic, the ending is just amazing!
