- When Dan and Candice's paths crossed at a yoga studio market, little did they know that their shared love for the earth would sprout into Live Edge, a beacon of sustainability in the world of woodworking. Their story, a tapestry of environmental stewardship and artistic craftsmanship, unfolds as they recount the growth of their business, from repurposing fallen trees into stunning furniture to strengthening the fabric of their community through local markets. Join us and be inspired by a couple who've turned their backs on city chaos for the tranquillity of rural life, proving that with passion and resilience, you can not only build a beautiful life but also make a positive impact on the planet.
Our conversation swerves from the warm glow of woodworking to the colder, more introspective side of life - embracing discomfort and the transformative nature of practices like cold plunging. The duo shares candid moments of failure and the rocky road to success, encouraging us to appreciate the sweetness of triumph against the backdrop of struggle. They also open up about their non-traditional approach to education and parenting, inviting us to question the status quo and consider the richness of experience over the conventional paths we've come to accept.
Peering into the future, Dan and Candice give us a glimpse of their Off-Grid Oasis, a dream in the making, where sustainable living isn't just an ideal but a tangible, year-round journey. With plans for a deck that doubles as a music space to the year-round growth of their gardens, the couple shares their vision for a life that's as close to nature's heartbeat as one can get. So pull up a chair and let the serenity of their story wash over you, as we explore the wild, wonderful world of Live Edge in this episode.

We are so Blessed in these times, to have technology to help our homesteading. Homesteading isn't quite so hard as for the pioneers!
So great that Shawn is branching out, growing, being creative, following his passions, such as podcasting!!
Like that, you allow your Guest to talk since many podcasters want to talk as much (or more) then their guest. Great job.
Love Dan & Candace's ' products their beautiful Epic to hear how they met and started up their business and to design interior / exterior of vans even better . Love hearing of young folks living a life of success they certainly have their head on their shoulders,. know what they want in life and are successful.
They are well grounded, and inspiring, they live what they say, the real deal
I enjoyed this one Shawn. We tried home schooling for a year. I do not know how the school districts are in Canada or other part s of the states, but what we found is home schooling was taking our kids away from structure of life. Structure meaning, we want them to have the tools to form their own opinions of their own life, and not be taught from away from that, being home. My kids are Shawns kids ages, and they will speak up in class to their teachers and to their classmates, whether it was when they were in school, or the universities they are in now. They thrive for discussion. Home school did not give them that.
Also, Dave and Candice artwork is stellar. Great job.
Excellent podcast this week Shawn.
Homeschool made my children very independent, very communicative, very blunt. So it depends on the parents who are educating at home.
Coisa linda Shawn um abraço um beijão.
Suggestion: for interviews like this in the future get each one of them a mic.
Super coincidence that your first cabin was on Whitestone Lake! My grandparents also had property on that lake, and we'd often have family reunions at Duck Rock. Maybe we even saw each other out on the lake at some point!
No kidding! What a small world! I actually lost my virginity in the woods near Duck Rock! 🦆 🪨
Working hard is good for you. Being rich for your entire life and not doing something is unhealthy. For the most part. Loving yourself, family, and having a life with some hard substance . Makes you sleep better.
Thank you , Shawn .
🐺Loupis Canis .
More conversations and opinions. I like it. Remember when we used to have conversations about all kinds of things. Even things that were sometimes uncomfortable without people getting butthurt or offended? I enjoy every aspect of everything you do Shawn. And appreciate the time you put in sir. Anyone who feels differently guess what? That’s fine, you’re entitled to your opinion just like everyone else. Thanks for stopping by.😂🤷♂️I can appreciate others opinions even when they can’t appreciate mine. 🤷♂️ I may not agree everything people say but I’m not simple enough to not listen to others and why they have the opinion they do. Who knows maybe social media made people antisocial. Seems sometimes nobody cares for the conversation and are all just waiting for their turn to shout.
I like you.
I like the conversation about the different thoughts of the educational system. I really like Dan's description that school today gets kids ready to replace the next vacancy in the factory assembly line. Like another cog in the wheel. No acknowledgement of your individual worth or value. Your uniqueness or potential to break through , either for yourself or the company you may feel loyal to.
I understood the idea of critical thinking early on. Mostly b'c of how my father (parents) raised me, outside of school. They also supported me by sending me to higher level private (parochial) schools where they might carry on those lessons of individual worth, knowledge building and understanding that I was unique and ... "potentially" ... capable of more than the masses around me.
I even noticed that those in the same system I was in didn't respond or grasp that idea and only a % would have the where-with-all to progress. (I'm sure it was a parental lack)
But,
I feel differently than Dan about how I feel about "giving up" high school or college. I don't look at it as lesser in the eyes of my peers or strangers that may have finished or endured the time to complete for a certificate , degree or "at a boy" by whom ever.
I made a mistake the summer before my senior yr of H.S. and transferred to a public school for my senior yr. (my Fresh. to Jr. time in H.S. was all boys) I found the public (co-ed) school was, academically, 2 or more yrs behind me and a waste of time. In the 1st couple weeks I made a plan to pitch the principal & P.E. dept. an idea to release me from 2 classes and allow me to teach Frisbee in 2 P.E. classes. It worked. This was back in 1980. I was 16 yrs old. I had joined the L.S.U. Frisbee Team at 13 and at the time , it was not a known organized sport in any sense of the word.
The G.E.D. test came available to 17yr olds (my b-day Oct. 31st) in Nov. of my Senior yr. I took it and passed. I registered at L.S.U. for the Spring semester and was accepted. I stayed for the whole semester of my senior H.S. yr to finish the P.E. classes and went to L.S.U. in Jan. of 81'. (no real diploma but a G.E.D. w/a H.S. name on it) Now, today, 40yrs later, all the H.S.'s in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas either have Frisbee as a class elective or team like any other sport available in H.S. I believe I may have been the start of that in the south.
Back to my education. I worked from 8yrs old (self employed) through 1-1/2 yrs of college. I had the adventure bug and hitched to California. I got a great career in High-End Finish Woodworking. Millworks installations. Traveled 47 states and all 3 countries in North America from helper to carpenter to foreman to Superintendent in 12 yrs and ended my 33 yr. career after running the millworks installations of Trump Tower and then Cosmopolitan Casino (both in Vegas where I'd worked in and out of over my career)
So, I look back at failing to "graduate", "complete" H.S. or college as a blessing. As if it may have been a hindrance. As if I realized the truth about the freedom to prosper by confidently pursuing your own path in life. More like a "head start" in the path that is life. Learning to be a competent survivor & provider of service to others. All while acknowledging those lessons and skills come from a higher power than those humans around me. Understanding that the help provided me, by parents, siblings, school mates, teachers, professor & mentors all comes from that higher power and is inspired by & in them to help , by Him !! Whether knowingly or not. I guess the difference I find in the help offered dictates whether it is good or evil , ......... , and that discernment is also given to me by that higher power.
I'm not exceptional or better than anyone, but blessed in property , spirit & prosperity to the degree dictated by Him and any drive I had that went beyond laziness. In short, I'm happy. Content. And, of most import, "grateful" !! I've now made the transition from City to rural country life & more " Self Reliant " than ever.
Sorry bout' the long winded book form of a comment,
Thanks for your generous consideration, and all the sharing you do here,
Sincerely ........................
God bless.
Another awesome interview! 👍🇨🇦😎
Interesting chat. Nice couple. Always like hearing what other people are up to and how they make a living. 👍
Wow, holy moly beautiful woodwork with the moon photograph encapsulated in resin. I've always admired resin art and furniture for years.
If i wana comment on that
It look like yooo understand life and we learn from the story's that you bring in
Awe they are so adorable Shawn - Thank you! - Happy Wednesday to you!
Excelente people,, hi James
I’ve learned a few things about gardening and I know a lot , it’s good to share ways to make your life clean
Putting in a wood stove was the best investment. In the next two days we got -38C at night. It's 26C in da house right now and I go thru a small amount of wood everyday with a reburner. So if there's an ice storm or something happens to natural gas.... I'm good. Free wood free heat.
"People so believe they are right". My view is there is truth and what is "right", but we only have beliefs. A Belief may align with the truth, it may not. A belief is not the truth.
Podcasts are okay.....but i wanna see cabin stuff Shawn
You’re on his personal account. Podcast. Got to his other account. My self Release. That channel has the cabin life
Other channel!
Yeah, .... not really interested about other people stories, the reason I subscribed to your channel is Your story and the way you do things.
❤❤❤❤❤
Excellent video Shawn. Very exciting people. NOW, I'm sorry for this comment you tried hard making your kitchen table by hand, BUT. Their tables should be in Toronto (One of a Kind). Do they still have that show!!! They are beautiful.
im thinking to move there
Thank you Shawn they’re so creative and you managed to find some of most amazing people! Blessings. 👏👏👏👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯
😁👍🏼
👋🙋♂️
Ive gotta stop listening to his podcast knowing a video is coming shortly lol

Nice people, wjth thier heads on straight, they know exactly the lifestyle they want to live and how to do it now. These podcasts are very interesting to say the least. Shawn, I didn`t know you had a sense of humor, you were pretty funny.
I doubt if he's gonna get a word in edgewater! 😂
I’m pretty sure there were more spoken “like”s IN this conversation then there are FOR this conversation.
👍👍
hey shawn i love your channel. im hoping you migh give me some advice. i like to tell stories none of them are true im just a story teller. im injured and cant get out side much anymore i can with help. any advice for me to help with a youtube channel??
Good chat!
I love your videos Shawn❤. Thanks for continuing updates 👍 I'd rather trade the crypto market as it's more profitable. I make a good amount of money per week even though I barely trade myself.
YES! that's exactly her name (Audrey Lauren ) | watched her interview on CNN News and so many people recommended highly about her
she is an expert and I'm just starting with her 😊.
This sounds so good and I would like to be a party to this, is there any way I can speak with her?
Sounds like they are doing a great job. Be a leader, not a follower. I still don't get all the tattoos kids waste money on today, but I know kids tend to follow the herd when young. Good luck.
Those who rely on themselves are going to be disappointed.
Repent and believe the gospel.
It's preparing for little disasters so that we can help others, just like what Jesus does. Compassion on the unfortunate, feeding the hungry, helping the orphan, protecting the widow. This was done in my area by prepping and prayer and assisting others likewise. Love one another.
@@iseiyoulaitre none of that is found anywhere on this channel.
Store up riches in heaven.
@@danielbenfreemanyou should chill, relax, read over and over the book of love, 1st John. If you don't have love you missed the boat and you're proximity in Jesus. Little statements like you make on CZcams just turn people off completely. Want to lead people to a wonderful Saviour? Get involved, love them, serve them, then wait for opportunities when it's God's time for them. Right now your just a noisy gong or a bull in a China shop.
HELLO:
I wish this was mic a little better. I totally love the backdrop. But it’s just so echoey and I’m having a hard time hearing it.
Shawn meu príncipe vc viu as mensagens?❤
It would be better if you’d create a podcast channel me think.
Podcasting is not everybody’s cuppa cake.
I'm totally lost I just come into the video there's no opening there's nothing it's just people talking I don't even know what's going on here?
Don't lose your format....
Peut être est-ce plus facile de parler de la vie, de l'argent ou pas..quand on a le ventre plein ?

Que chatice😝
Not for me. I’m out.
Other channel!
nope...
Sorry Shawn but no one can equal you. ❤
I'm out. Not a podcast fan. Too much talk, no action.
Therefore. . . his other channel!
sorry, got to 13 mins and couldn't put up with her anymore!
Disappointed. Now,
Other channel!
College teaches one to wokefully work for others. 80% of entrepreneurs never went to college. Winter is coming. 🇨🇳
You have some stuff important you not doing
I’m interested in the things you do at the cabin, not other peoples stories. No more podcasts for me. You’re right..your self reliance has turned into big business. Not interested.
I notice one of Those Controller My way or the highway people. Do you have any idea WHOSE channel this is? Sheesh.
Bye!😂🤷♂️ you know nobody is forcing you to watch this right?😂😂😂
@@josephmiele3745alarmist?😂😂😂 don’t it bum you out when people have opinions?😂😂😂maybe he’s just paying attention. But I’m sure after reading your comment he’s going to consider burying his head in the sand and doing what you want.😂 some people are far too delicate.😂 I understand most people don’t like change or the unknown but it’s not your channel is it? Feel free to scroll on 🤷♂️
@josephmiele3745 it's time to wake up and pull your head out of the sand.. wake up little one.. wake up.
He has two channels.
I’ve always enjoyed the cabin building videos, or back in the day watching Shawn make a spoon out of a random piece of wood.
But things have gone off the rails, his success has obviously gone to his head or something. A man who’s making some pretty decent CZcams revenue still feels the need to go the Patreon route. And now podcasts with endless talking and philosophizing. Not for me.
I’m out.
Obviously you havent heard the news, how restrictive the trudeau regime has become, coming down on CZcams Canada. Shawn is doing his best, to do what he has to for he and family.
You want his other channel that has the cabin life content.
Shawn a polite gentleman let this lady yrying to get fame on CZcams. No one can replace Shawn. Later dude. You and your woman is bore. Lol
blah blah blah
