The inventor of the Clavinet (Ernst Zacharias) is the granddad of a friend of mine. He's 90+, living here in Hamburg and still inventing stuff. Hopefully gonna meet him soon. I think the guy deserves a technical Grammy or whatever it's called - Funk&Soul music wouldn't have been the same without his instruments.
Glad to see this product of my home town. There is a little chance my grandmother worked on it, since my whole family was working at Hohner at that time. Did you know that Ernst Zacharias was the inventor ? He is now close to 90 and working on a new organ concept in Hamburg. Cheers from Germany, Jörg

It's extremely heavy, but it's worth every single pound of weight. Apart from the love you mention, it's got a metal frame where the strings and the two pick-ups are held. The rest of it is basically wood...
You relay need to open the lid and show the inside. The mechanics in this piano is so cool :)

I owned a D6 Clavinet/Pianet! Loved it. It stayed in tune, whether in cold weather or hot. Pretty amazing. But mine had the tines as well, hence the name Pianet.
Staples: food, water, shelter, Claudio unboxing.
THAT is EXACTLY how I got my Juno DS 88 up the stairs and into my office without the wife noticing! No such thing as a light weight weighted keyboard even now!! ❤
I don't know too much about Clavinets but it definitely surprised me how well that sounded right out of the box! Congratulations on your new treasure.

Replacing the clavinet D6 is like somebody trying to replace a Fender Stratocaster with a sampler. The clav has real strings, real hammers and real pickups... what more can a keyboardist ask for? If it ain't broke don't fix it! Great vid! You have motivated me to pull mine out of the closet and get some new Hammer tips and strings and I will be back in biz! Peace, Bob

One of the most underrated and under-appreciated instruments. Everyone has heard it (mostly thanks to Stevie) but in my experience pretty few have any idea what it is. In any case it makes me happy to see that you have one because you've got the chops to take full advantage of it! Enjoy!

Very expressive and energetic instrument
There's a not so subtle Clavinet used in Huey Lewis and the News "Do you Believe in Love?" And in Steely Dan's "Peg" and "Black Cow" to me all very excellent uses for the instrument.

Yeap. That particular Clavinet (E7, though labelled D6) is designed to sit comfortably atop a curved-lid Rhodes...
I suppose this famous manufacturer went bankrupt and was sold to HS Investment Group in the West Indies. A so called squeeze out in business language.
Jake Clock My 2 cents: For pure rump-shaking FUNK, the clav wins hands down. For badass ‘street-tone’, the Wurlitzer. For all-around non-funk versatility, the Rhodes.
