6.5 grendel
#fueledbynature
My 6.5 Grendel was my fourth AR build. It’s my favorite by far
Thanks for the video
They get addictive....
22" Lilja
18" LaRue
18" AA
17.6" Lilja
16.5" Lilja
14.5" Rexus
12" Monster Faxon
10.5" Criterion
8.5" Criterion
Oh the irony...the 6.5G was my forth AR build as well and it is a awesome addition for sure!!! Now I am fighting the near uncontrollable urge to get a Bolt Action in the 6.5G too!
Tell me folks, isnt that my best intro yet? :)
Tout-à-fait! Ça s’améliore à chaque fois!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Aww thank you bro! Hey t'es de quelle region? (si ca te dérange pas)

6,5 Grendel is a great intermediate cartridge to hunt with. To bad the US military didnt want to adopt it, it answered the soldiers need to replace the 556 but instead they decided to reinvent a new caliber and weapon instead of retrofitting to the 6.5 Grendel. Europe has been using the 6.5 cal for yrs knowing its potential.
Nice video!!! Have to agree, I love my 6.5G!
Nice presentation.
My first 6.5G was/is a CZ527 Varmint with a 26.5" heavy barrel.
My second was/is a Bear Creek Arsenal 24".
I have several others down to 11" in 6.5G.
Little Monster is quite accurate.
What is the muzzle velocity out of the 26.5" heavy barrel with 123 grain bullet?
Great quality video, on the point as always, keep them coming!
6.5 Gr is really a fun cartridge. I played with it at 1000yds using bolt rifle, and immediately jumped onto 6mm ARC when it appeared here, and it did almost better at 1000yds, for higher ballistic coefficient. They both are fantastic pills, both are keepers. My opinion only
Thank you! Ha! I'm not far to get a 6mmArc, I've been reading about it after I shot this video, and I wish I had included it here. Also extremely surprising!
I have several Grendel's. I own a Howa, but I purchased a barreled action and mounted it in a Boyd's AT-One thumbhole stock. I also have a CVA scout II in the caliber as well as my 20" barreled upper for an AR. I have it on a 20 MOA mount on the AR for long range shooting. I really like it. I'm loading 100 gr. ELD-M's for the pistol, so I can push a bit faster powder and get the most out of the 14" barrel. I shoot only 129 gr. Accubond LR bullets for my long range stuff. I have loaded some 123 gr. SST for closer deer hunting also. My next thing to try is to find an all copper bullet it likes this summer.
Nice! What is your powder of choice? and what velocity are you getting with the 129ALR?
@@WildBushGrit Currently using XBR8208 and only pushing it about 2300. I have BLC2 & CFE223 that can gain about 100 fps or so, so may try them. I'm using BLC2 with the 100 grainers for 2700 or so fps.
Check out Maker T. Rex or Cavity Back solid copper bullets. They expand down to low impact velocities and open up to larger than double caliber like little boat motors.
im doing a 6.5 Grendel build its slow process but getting there was going to do bca 20 inch heavy barrel but looking at other options i know i want 20 inch and heavy barrel.
The 6.5 Grendel has been touted as being the "most efficient cartridge ever chambered in the AR-15 platform." This is something the 6mm ARC enthusiasts should consider. The Grendel offers better barrel life in a semi-auto.
Look at the g1 BC compared from .224 and .243 bullets in the 80-100gr area and the bullets in the similar weight class for .264
Whilst grendel can fling those same weight classes the same speeds, look at the new 22ARC and the 6ARC. They can sling those respective bullets in similar speeds for their diameter.
I believe the grendel REALLY REALLY shines in the 120-130gr range with a 20-24" barrel and the appropriate powder to achieve speeds to get the most potential from the bullets.
I personally load 123gr sst to about 2420fps and it'll be a effective load to harvest whitetail to about 350yds at max. And I have a load now with 95gr vmax that will be effective on varmint out to about 450-500yds. Strictly from data gathered from chronograph and ballistic calculator.
Overall this video is extremely well spoken on data for grendel, it's definitely a solid video woth great data points related to grendel.
Love your videos! Thanks for all the info.
Thank you! You are so welcome!
Great video
I have a few guns in 6.5 grendel a light weight AR-15 a heavy AR-15 and a bolt action. The bolt action is the one that holds the biggest surprise. I get 200-300 fps more out of the bolt action and that makes the performance at distance much better.
I didn't see more than 150fps more mv from my 22" Howa vs 22" AR-15. 300fps more than standard Grendel speeds is 6.5CM or .260 Rem territory. Those cases hold 10gr more powder and run at 62,000psi.
@@LRRPFco52 now I'm only mentioning this because it could be relevant I'm really not sure. I have some newer 8208xbr and I got ahold of some older bottles. I only loaded a little of the older powder I was getting very different results than the newer cans. It was both slower by 100fps or so and not nearly as good of standard deviation I don't remember exact numbers but it was bad enough I didn't even record it. I still have those cans in fact.
@@Bshwag Hodgdon's data has changed for it as well. Charge weights and pressures are quite different.
I always wanted to try the Grendel
Its really fun, very low recoil, you could plink all day!
Great option for AR15 platform. Lighter rig is especially nice when you're on foot having to traverse big hills, tough terrain
Well,❤ since I was in the US Army during the Vietnam War, there is no love from me about the 5.56mm, so I built an AR-15 in 6.5G with a 24” match-grade barrel (Dead Shot Barrel).
Do you think bonded bullets would have fared better in 556 instead of FMJ? I am assuming here military use only FMJ for cost effectiveness. In my world, FMJ is only good on paper :)
i shoot my 20in 5r rifled ar build out to 1204 yards in WV and its super sonic out to almost 1300 its insanely good
Woah! You'll have to give me your load data details :)
Any idea what altitude you're at when shooting that distance?

I had a Grendel, now I don’t. I updated to Creedmoor, it’s gone too. Just no “knockdown” power. I went back to a 308.
Grendel/308 is apple and orange. But for 6.5creed/308 Define 'knockdown' because 250ft-lb of difference at 100yards, and 30ft-lb difference at 500yards is quite minimal.
@@WildBushGrit True the difference between the two are minimal on paper but there is also something to be said for bullet frontal area when it comes to hunting game animals...I own both and I like both! Just as I have different tools in my tool box, I have different guns in my gun safe.

What ammo were you using snd what barrel length?
409 Try a thousand! Easy!
NEED A 6.5MM GRENDEL WITH A HOLLOW CAVITY LIKE THE 7N1 WITH A TUNGSTEN STEEL CORE BOAT TRAIL AND USE A MAGNUM PRIMERS FOR ALL WHETHER BURN NEED 2900FPS TO 3000FPS WITH A BULLET WEIGHT BETWEEN 95GR TO 110GR
