    Japan has issued its first-ever “megaquake advisory” that flags an increased likelihood of an earthquake measuring magnitude 8 or 9. The alert followed a magnitude 7.1 quake that struck the nation’s south on August 8, 2024. What should you do if you are caught in a “megaquake”?

    Japan has always been prepare for earthquakes, but not so mush for Tsunamis since predicting their hight are very difficult and can even cause a false warning where the waves were predicted to be only a small hight, but when it hit land only to find the hight of those waves to be mush terrifyingly higher. This is what happened on 11/03/2011.

    It is absolutely silly for the Hong Kong government to advise citizens to avoid going to Japan out of fear of a megaquake. It's like telling your family members to avoid driving cars because of the risk of an accident. Everyone needs to stay alert, vigilant, and use common sense. People should continue to live their lives normally.

    • @perlasandoval7883
      @perlasandoval7883 Před 26 dny +6

      advisory is a warning level, it's usually structured as the following
      Danger
      Warning
      Advisory.
      if found serious, the HKSAR may declare a code black and prevent travel towards the area this was last used(as far as i know) The Quirino Grand Stand Hostage Crisis which took the lives of several hong kongers, but they prob also used it during the COVID-19 pandemic

    • @awale223
      @awale223 Před 26 dny +2

      Why? Very sensible if you ask me. They're not telling residents to avoid Japan forever nor have they banned travel. When Japan's own meteorological agency has issued that there might be an earthquake literally in the next few days and a powerful one at that, if you don't HAVE to go, why go? Especially for HK residents, it's literally a hop, skip, and jump to get to Japan hence why it's such a popular holiday destination. It's not remotely a once in a lifetime trip like it might be for other countries. And if one does hit, and even if it doesn't affect you personally, if the country ends up being in a state of mourning, and transport links are closed/disrupted/heavily delayed, is it really such a great trip? People living in Japan don't have a choice, and even then those living in coastal areas have been advised to evacuate or seek higher ground. Don't underestimate the power of Mother Nature. And if this all blows over, and nothing happens, or it's only a minor one, then great! That's the ideal situation EVERYONE is hoping for. But in the event that it's massive, why not be that little bit safer? It's literally apples and oranges what you're comparing to.

    • @willhwang4932
      @willhwang4932 Před 26 dny +1

      It is not silly to protect people from a potential catastrophe, scientific reasoning is pointing to that scenario. Your driving of a car comparison does not make sense at all, as you can never be able to predict when and where a car collision is going to happen, unlike this or a super typhoon for that matter. Besides, this caution is not limiting a person to live life normally, it is a moral responsibility to protect each and everyone's life.

    • @bioy2646
      @bioy2646 Před 26 dny

      It is absolutely silly to claim that the Hong Kong government's advisory to avoid going to Japan due to a megaquake risk is an overreaction. It's like suggesting that we should ignore warnings about potential dangers just because they don't happen every day. Everyone needs to stay informed, take precautions, and use common sense. Advisories are issued for a reason, and people should heed them to ensure their safety. We can live our lives normally while still being cautious and prepared for potential risks.

      the nankai trough megaquake affects east asia the most, other regions may not have to worry about it except for tsunamis. other areas with expected megaquakes are along the cascadia subduction zone. likewise, other countries have their own 'big ones' to worry about but thats generally not dependent on the trigger of the nankai trough. better to stay safe nonetheless and read about projected big quakes in your country and in neighboring ones. hope this helps !!

      Well the philippines is already worried, mindanao island is continuously experiencing earthquakes, which is not normal because back earthquakes only happen atleast half a decade intervals, now its monthly. In our term, mega quake is called THE BIG ONE. If it does strike millions will die due to poor urban planning and building quality. Houses and buildings in philippines are build to survive typhoon but 90% of them isn't build to survive huge earthquakes, plus being an archipelago, we have lots of low lying areas which are highly vulnerable to tsunami
