  • The final part of my look at how steel is folded. In this video I show a basic principle of adding hardened steel to normal steel so a keen edge or face can be created and maintained on swords, axes and hammers.

That's breaking it down to kindergarten level! And without losing anything in the process. Good job, and keep it up. Learning a lot here.

I think the hamon was from the differential hardening from coatings while they heat treated the blade.

As a bladesmith, I can confirm this. You can actually get a hamon on a monosteel blade (w2 makes a nice hamon) when you is differential hardening. The reason is that the hardened steel has a tighter grain structure than soft steel , so you get a clear defined line between soft and hard steel when you polish it

Sweet thanks, it's not an area I will pretend to know a lot about, just about what's in the video, which was more about debinking my teenage myth of drawing out a blade and folding it in two! :)

Greenleaf Workshop no sweat, you’ve given me a HUGE amount of help with my own armouring projects over the years. Extremely informative, and I’m greatly appreciative! Keep doing what you do!

I don't know if a "Plasticinesmith" exists, but it definitely should.

I may be the Master if I keep this pace going, back to armour techniques next week. :)

I seriously thought you found a way to case harden iron with plasticine and was so excited. :(

what an idea, I will see if I can manage to make something articulate in plasticine. Thanks for subscribing, peculiar about the notifications?

@@GreenleafWorkshop It'd be fun to try it :) No idea regarding the notifications. I was getting your quarantine lectures for a while but it just stopped. I still have all notifications selected. Checking my subscriptions, it appears it's happened with a few channels I subscribe too.
